Sure, we all like sex, violence and cursing, but if you're like me, sometimes you like to pour yourself a nice cup of tea, settle into the couch, and watch something that's a bit more stimulating to the ol' gray matter. Therefore, here's a few shows coming up on PBS you might want to check out. Note that the first couple shows will air during the pledge period, so you'll have to check your listings for the exact date and time.
Kenny Rogers: The Journey (check local listings for date and time) - This combination concert and retrospective looks at forty years of Rogers' work, including interviews with the musician and singer.

At this point, I think I've become numb to the deluge of reality programing that still continues to hammer us. I liken it to being repeatedly shot at pointblank range. Eventually, it doesn't matter how many bullets have entered your body, because you've pretty much just accepted they're not going to stop and there's nothing you can do to stop it, anyway. Still, Unwrapping Macy's is allegedly different than other reality shows because it's the first one to make a corporate retailer the centerpiece of the show. The series, which kicks off on September 30 on the WE network for an initial eight-episode run, will offer a look into what it's like to work at the store. You'll see how they choose merchandise, put together their catalog, and force homeless people at knife point to inflate the Underdog balloon every Thanksgiving. My god, that sounds absolutely riveting.

American Idol judge (and my junior high crush) Paula Abdul is being accused
by two workers at the Silverton hotel and casinoin Las Vegas of getting them fired. The story goes that Abdul called
the front desk in the early morning to change her flight plans for later that morning. The two girls working the front
desk began to print out flight schedules, but in the midst of it all were called again by Abdul who told them the
flights were all booked. She then blamed them for causing her to miss her flight. The workers, Carol Good and
Damon Rosa, were both fired. I won't pretend to know who was right or wrong in this situation, but I was impressed that
Good stayed past the time her shift was supposed to end in order to help out, if only because I used to work in the
hospitality industry. Typically, once my shift was over I pretty much stopped caring about the residents of the
hotel. This makes me a bad person, I know. I've been trying to improve myself through meditation.
