The producers of
Wired Science were kind enough to drop us a note that they have been picked up by PBS for the fall season.
Wired Science was part of a
grand PBS experiment to have viewers vote on their favorite pilots and PBS would take those votes into consideration when choosing which one to pick up.
Wired Science was the far-and-away favorite among voters and focus groups (and my mom) out of the three pilots that PBS offered up for viewing. The Wired Science pilot featured meteorite hunters, virus harvesting in Yellowstone Nat'l Park, and NASA's underwater astronaut training program. Cool stuff. (You can still check out the pilot
here)
The series is connected to Wired Magazine and is described as "a weekly one-hour series that presents the crucial subjects of science and technology in a smart and compelling format." When it launches in the fall,
Wired Science will (naturally) have a significant online presence that includes video and additional resources. The 10-week series premieres October 3rd at 8 pm.

Just don't confuse the show with the '80s flick Weird Science. As far as I know, Oingo Boingo didn't compose any music for this new series. David Byrne of the Talking Heads, however, did compose the theme music, which is much cooler (no offense to Danny Elfman).

PBS is cautiously venturing into the world of online television programming. The network will ring in the New Year by premiering three pilots of new shows on its website, and letting viewers help decide which pilot gets a series order. Staffers are dubbing it "PBS Science Idol", although the voting doesn't necessarily determine which pilot gets a series... it's just being taken into consideration in the decision. The pilots will also begin airing on PBS on January 3rd, and viewers will be encouraged to go to the website to voice their opinions. Each episode will be available for viewing on PBS.org or for free on iTunes starting January 1. Each pilot will air on three Wednesdays, starting on January 3rd at 8 pm.
The three pilots are all science-related:
