werewolves-related stories

One of the most talked about shows of the summer is
True Blood, HBO's supernatural series about vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, and all those eerie things we find both fascinating and horrifying.
With the season two finale right around the corner -- "Beyond Here Lies Nothin'" airs Sunday at 9 PM ET on HBO -- it's a great time to catch up with series creator Alan Ball (pictured, with Michelle Forbes, Rutina Wesley, and Deborah Ann Woll at the TCA awards in August). Read on for his thoughts on the future of Maryann, a Sookie/Bill pairing, and even a few spoilers on season three.

read AOL TV's coverage of the show, as well.

First of all, I should probably apologize for the title. I just couldn't help myself.
You may have missed it in all the excitement and hullabaloo over a certain
Comic-Con convention over the weekend, but BBC America debuted a new show on Saturday night. A little thing called
Being Human. You know how popular the vampires are with the kids these days, right?
True Blood is huge. This one's got 'em. How about werewolves?
New Moon's rocking the werewolf action. This one's got 'em. And a ghost, too, for good measure. (As Joel reported, they also presented at yesterday's
BBC America press tour session, which generated far less hullabaloo).
What's an oddity about this show is that the premise sounds like an outrageous comedy idea. "Okay, here's what we got. A vampire and a werewolf move into an apartment with a ghost, where they try to live normal everyday lives." Shenanigans? Sure, but it's so much more. It's unexpectedly amazing television.

If you ask the average zoologist what makes mysterious creatures like Bigfoot or El Chupacabra so impossible today when once scientifically-dismissed species like the Mountain Gorilla or Giant Squid are now common enough concepts, they'll probably say, "The difference is the gorilla and the squid are real, and Bigfoot isn't."
The scientific dismissal isn't keeping Animal Planet from releasing a new DVD featuring stories of cryptozoological oddities.
Announced this week and set for release this fall (October 6),
Lost Tapes operates under the thesis that, while thousands of new species are discovered and classified each year, there are some creatures that science still refuses to recognize.

I was going to say that HBO's
True Blood is one of my favorite new shows this fall, but looking back on the season, I'd have to say it's my favorite, with
Fringe as a close second.
HBO continues to churn out some great shows, and
True Blood is no exception. Season one will be available on DVD May 12, 2009, with season two premiering that month, as well. I'm not sure how I'll hold out until then!
The vampire thriller earned
a Golden Globe nod today for Outstanding Drama Series, and creator
Alan Ball (who also helmed
Six Feet Under), dropped a few hints about what fans might expect in season two.
His comments contain a few spoilers, so I'll put them after the jump, in case you haven't finished watching season one yet.

Elvira (aka Cassandra Peterson) is teaming up with
the producers of
American Idol and
The Weakest Link to create a
reality show where they will find
someone to take over the role of Elvira on TV, in movies, and personal appearances.
This could actually be
great. Can you imagine the people showing up for auditions? People dressed like Elvira and Dracula and Frankenstein and
superheroes and zombies. People who scare you, and you're not quite sure what they'll do. Actually, it sounds a lot like
the
American Idol auditions.

Ever
wondered what Klaus the goldfish would look like as a black man? Neither did I, but I had never really been posed that
question before. I think if someone asked me that I would have wondered... Well, whether you've had those sick thoughts
before or not, you got the answer to that question during last night's episode of
American Dad. I have a feeling that
American Dad is hitting it's
stride, which is probably not a good thing. The show is going ok, but it's nothing spectacular, and far, far short of
it's potential. It's always going to be the second banana to
Family Guy. It's
not a bad show by any means, but
American Dad will never be as good as
Family Guy. On with the show!
