Previously on TV Squad - VIDEO
Hi everybody, it's Brigitte again, discussing a few of the TV Squad stories I found interesting last week:
- Simon Cowell's going to have his own perfume? Is that really a good idea?
- Diane Ruggiero's new pilot promises to be "Sex and the City meets Batman." Somehow, I doubt it.
- Lost got juicy this week with Further Instructions
Brian Williams and NBC start video blog
First, Brian Williams became a blogger, and everyone listened. Now, the NBC Nightly News anchor has been recruited to be a vlogger, which he seems to relish. Starting yesterday, NBC is putting a video blog called "The Early Nightly" on the Nightly News' website. In the first edition of the video blog, Williams takes viewers on a tour of NBC's Tel Aviv bureau and shows viewers the protective gear he and other correspondents bring with them when they go on remote shoots, including his flack jacket breastplate. The video blog is supposed to go up every morning, after the 9:30 ET editorial conference call, according to this TV Week article. The "Daily Nightly" text blog will still be around, since it covers what was discussed during the afternoon conference call. I will say, both give you an interesting look behind the scenes, but if Williams wanted more camera time, he could just go on Conan more often. He's pretty funny on that show.
Sci-Fi takes its Pulse
Following close behind other networks who are starting to embrace this whole "broadband content" thing, the Sci-Fi Channel will be launching its own broadband venture, Pulse, in two days. Web surfers will be able to watch rebroadcast shows and movies, exclusive news, and web-only shows. Other online components will also include live psychic readings from Char Margolis, and producer David Eick's Battlestar Galactica vlog. Admittedly, I don't watch much Sc-Fi, but the channel has had a fairly solid presence on the Web from the beginning, so it's cool to see it finally taking this inevitable step. Pulse will launch on May 8.
