Super Skank Wednesday: Brooke Knows Best & I Love Money - VIDEOS
Welcome to Super Skank Wednesday. This is where I celebrate the awesomely skanky people on the following shows: I Love Money, Charm School, New York Goes to Hollywood, and The Surreal Life. Basically, I'll discuss the skankalicious shows that make VH1 the network it is today. After the jump, I've got some of my favorite I Love Money moments from this weekend and my first impressions of Brooke Knows Best. And I have a special video.

TV 101: Five VERY SPECIAL EPISODES that saved society - VIDEOS
There's no denying it: we're currently living in a utopia. Not a day goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars that I get to live in the greatest country on earth during the greatest time to be alive. I think even the harshest critic of the current world order would agree with me when I say that there's not a single problem anywhere in the world that anyone is dealing with. But how did we get here? What was the spark that spurred us from barely cognizant man-apes into the enlightened, elegant creatures that we are today? Look no further than that great black monolith sitting in your living room: your TV. Five VERY SPECIAL EPISODES that saved society after the jump...

YouTube killer and video ad sites prepared to launch
Early next year NBC Universal will launch Didja.com, a YouTube-like video site made just for advertisers. The site will feature TV spots both old and new, movie trailers and other brand-related stuff. Advertisers will also include special offers and promotions to coincide with their specific channel.
The idea was concocted by executives at the NBC Universal-owned USA cable network, so expect lots of ads for that particular network when the site launches. Eventually, other NBC Universal properties will show up on the site, as well.

The Alternative With Jay Mohr hits FoxSports site this month
Jay Mohr, comedian and sports fan, will be providing twenty-minute video segments for FoxSports.com this month. The series, called The Alternative With Jay Mohr, will mix remote segments, monologues and comedic sketches. Mohr will also pen a weekly column for the sports site.
Sports fans shouldn't be too surprised to see Mohr in this capacity. The comedian/actor, who currently appears on CBS' Ghost Whisperer, hasn't exactly hidden his love of sports, having appeared as a guest host on Jim Rome's Sirius Satellite Radio program, not to mention frequent appearances on The Best Damn Sports Show Period and NFL Sunday Morning.

Flight of the Conchords: In the Limelight -- VIDEOS
My absolute, hands-down favorite new show of this summer is HBO's Flight of the Conchords. The show stars Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement as stranger versions of themselves, musicians from New Zealand trying to make it in big, bag America, with little to no help from their pathetic manager, Murray (the extremely funny Kiwi comic Rhys Darby). But did you know that before the Flight of the Conchords show, there was a Flight of the Conchords band? Well, you probably already knew that, but I wanted to take a moment and marvel at the comedic beauty that is the Bret and Jemaine duo.Continue reading Flight of the Conchords: In the Limelight -- VIDEOS
Neil Hamburger, TV personality - VIDEO
If you follow the "alternative comedy" scene, you've probably seen Neil Hamburger before. He's appeared on Tom Green's online talk show hosting "Poolside Chats," and has also popped up on Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, not to mention a few episodes of Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC and Red Eye on the FoxNews channel.
Hamburger is actual Gregg Turkington, a musician, actor and writer who has released a few "comedy" albums. He resembles a lounge performer who was mugged just prior to getting on stage, and his sets consist of lots of bad jokes peppered with uncontrollable coughing fits. That is, however, the point of his act. He's not so much a bad comedian as he is someone playing a bad comedian, and once you're in on the gag, it's quite entertaining.

Tim and Eric love Shrek - VIDEO
Every so often, MySpace will offer users the chance to gussy up their pages with special promotional images and backgrounds. Some, like myself, prefer doing it the old fashioned way and carrying large signs around the neighborhood telling everyone to see the new Transformers movie.
Comedians Tim and Eric (Tom Goes to the Mayor; Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!), however, don't care about Transformers, they care about Shrek the Third. That's right, not only have they changed the look of their MySpace page to honor the lovable ogre, they've also created a few videos to let people know the movie is coming out.

Watch clips of ABC's pilots on their website
On the heels of yesterday's upfront presentation, ABC has put up short clips of its new fall pilots on their website. All of the shows introduced, including the mid-season replacements, have clips on the site (the soap Dirty Sexy Money has two clips), including a brief scene from the much-anticipated and already-maligned Cavemen.I've got to tell you, that feeling of "blah" I got from the pilot descriptions yesterday didn't go away when I saw the clips. None of them look nearly as compelling as what ABC or the other networks had to offer last year; the clip for Cavemen in particular looked pretty bad. The only one that got me interested in seeing the pilot was the clip for Miss/Guided, which won't even premiere until mid-season.
Oh, well. Like most critics, I'll be getting the rough-cut versions of the pilots soon, so we'll see if my "blah" feeling goes away at that point.

Fuse renews Whitest Kids U Know
Fuse has given its musical sketch comedy series The Whitest Kids You Know a second season. The series, which originated as a series of Web videos back in 2000, first hit Fuse last March. Before coming to Fuse, the team of Trevor Moore, Sam Brown, Zach Cregger, Timmy Williams, and Darren Trumeter made a name for themselves around New York City's various comedy venues.
Variety does not specify when the second season will begin, although it does mention the possibility of a DVD release.
If you're like me and don't have Fuse on your cable lineup, you can watch some of the sketches on YouTube, which has a collection of some of their old Web stuff and possibly a few clips from the actual series. The Fuse site used to have clips, too, but those are gone. I watched a few of them not too long ago and found them amusing, but right now I have to say MTV's Human Giant is the better sketch comedy series.
Burnett and MySpace join for new reality series
Reality show wunderkind Mark Burnett will be launching a reality series for both television and online audiences that seeks to find one person to serve as the political voice of young America. The series, Independent, will launch sometime early next year on MySpace, and will also be seen on television, though at this stage no network has been found for the series.

Sexy Venture Bros. sexy second season sexy DVD teaser
Last month, I reported on the Venture Bros. panel at the New York Comic-Con. One of the highlights of the evening was the fantastic Season Two DVD teaser -- disguised as a film that used "hypnotic suggestion through overt sexuality" -- that kicked off the discussion, but I felt like I was missing out on some great lines because of all the cheering and laughter. I have already watched online audience videos of the panel multiple times, trying to hear better, but, alas, it all sounded the same as it did in the room. Now, thanks to Quick Stop Entertainment, the teaser is online! And there is no hooting, no cheering... only quiet whimpers as I cry with joy. Was that a bit much? Sorry.

It's not TV. It's VBS.
The best television programming out there isn't on TV. It's on VBS. Alright, that's a bit of an overstatement, but Vice Magazine's VBS broadband channel, which is currently in beta, is into overstatements. With director Spike Jonze as its creative director, VBS has set out to "rescue you from television's deathlike grip" and "exploit every Utopian vision the internet has thus far failed to live up to." Big words from a little network, but so far, they're kicking broadband ass and taking names. The network is a heady, hipster mix of politics, fun and music. Some of the best programming so far - Heavy Metal in Baghdad, a five-part series in which the filmmakers search for Baghdad's only heavy metal band Acrassicauda. The short series presents a unique take on civilian life in Iraq. Soft Focus - former Nation of Ulysses and Make-Up frontman Ian Svenonius interviews musicians like Chan Marshall, Will Oldham and Ian Mackaye. Dos and Don'ts and Friends - alternative comics and other off-kilter folks hold forth on still images of sexy, sexy people doing sexy, sexy things.
