(S35E01) Alternate title for this post: "New girl's f-bomb overshadows Megan Fox's slammin' bod."
Yes,
Saturday Night Live new girl Jenny Slate's f-bomb was the most thrilling part of the show's otherwise bland 35th season premiere. It's not like we've never heard that word before, and it's not like accidental verbal naughtiness has never happened on
SNL (I still distinctly remember my extra-young self watching Cheri Oteri cringing as she contributed to the swear jar), but the pain still felt fresh with hot embarrassment.
This was partially due to the fact that it's just a generally bad thing to have happen on a player's first show (and in such a mediocre sketch, at that) but mostly because of this face that she made after she caught her boo-boo.
Twitter exploded with people's camera phone pics of this one moment.
Jenny Slate, welcome to the big time.

It looks like
Megan Fox hosting the season premiere of Saturday Night Live is all but officially confirmed by the folks behind the show. And now we've gotten word that
U2 will be the first musical guest for the new season of SNL. They're in the midst of their U2 360 world tour promoting their latest album,
No Line on the Horizon.
I don't know if U2 has the same kind of pull on the kids today as they have had on my generation through the years, but in my eyes this is a pretty significant "get" for one of NBC's marquee shows.

David Cross has gone and mocked that
Bank of America singer who made the rounds on the internet recently. Cross did it in the best possible way: by singing it straight. He basically does the same cover of the U2 song, One, that a Bank of America employee repurposed to celebrate the merger of Bank of America and MBNA.
The video is from last week during the "Hot Tub" show at Comix in NYC. Accompanying him on guitar was Johnny Marr, of The Smiths. Cross has a surprisingly good singing voice!
Video after the jump (there's another angle of it
here):

If you're a fan of U2 and are kicking yourself for missing them perform not one but three songs when Late Night with Conan O'Brien dedicated an entire episode to them in October, you can catch a repeat of the episode this evening. This was the first time Conan dedicated an entire show to one musical guest, but others followed, including the White Stripes and Neil Young.

Kiefer Sutherland has an interesting
playlist up on iTunes. While most artists
include songs that inspire them, he is using his playlist as a platform to promote bands that use his L.A. recording
studio, called
Ironworks. The studio is kinda nifty, because it
holds all
28 Gibson guitars that Kiefer has
collected over the years, and they are available for use by the bands.
While some people may consider his
playlist shameless self promotion, I think it's a great way to learn about new music. Maybe that's because I happen to
like the little snippets that I heard. Plus, he has also included some well-known performers such as Marvin Gaye, U2,
and Sarah McLachlan.

What a night for Kelly
Clarkson! She cried when she beat out Gwen Stefani, Sheryl Crow, Mariah Carey, and Bonnie Raitt for best female pop
performance for her very awesome
Since U Been Gone rock hit. Less than an hour later, she nearly broke down as
she sang
Because of You. Later in the night, Kelly won her second grammy for best pop vocal album for
Breakaway, an album that was very close to her heart. She wrote or co-wrote half the songs on the album and
divorced her management company over control of the album. Neither of her acceptance speeches mentioned her win on
American Idol. That's a tough call. She obviously wouldn't be where she is if
it weren't for
Idol, but at the same time, she legitimized herself as a true
talent this year when she distanced herself from the competition.
