Demetri Martin gets his own show on Comedy Central - VIDEO

Demetri MartinJust a day after announcing that they were going to renew both Mind of Mencia and Lil' Bush, Comedy Central has announced that they have picked up a new comedy/variety show from comedian Demetri Martin.

The show will be produced by Jon Stewart and his Busboy Productions. Martin has been a regular contributor to The Daily Show. He also had two Comedy Central specials: one in 2004 as part of Comedy Central Presents and another this past January, Demetri Martin: Person, and a new comedy album These Are Jokes.

I've been waiting for this. Martin happens to be one of the funniest people on the planet. I think his style of humor lends itself perfectly to a weekly sketch show.. I'm sure he'll thrown in animation and observations too. After the jump, a couple of videos from Martin's work on The Daily Show and one of his specials.

Demetri Martin talks about standup, gorilla suits, and pragmatic theory

Demetri MartinBopping around online I came across two very interesting interviews with comedian Demetri Martin.

In the first one at The Believer, he talks juggling, Conan O'Brien, doing standup for old guys in London, and how riding a unicycle with never get you laid. In the second interview, at Brian Palmer's site, he describes going from law school to comedy, skateboarding, and how he ended up on The Daily Show.

And why'll we're at it, check out some of his standup and Daily Show bits at YouTube.

The Daily Show's Afrospanicindioasianization

Jon StewartBack in September of 2005, The Daily Show featured a special report, "Evolution Schmevolution", during which they totally resolved the issue concerning intelligent design vs. evolution in just four half-hour segments. Well, it looks like The Daily Show is off to fix another one of the world's problems with another special report. In response to the current turmoil over the immigration issue, they will present "Race: The Afrospanicindioasianization Of America". Ooh, catchy title. According to the press release, Rob Corddry, John Hodgman, and Demetri Martin ("Trendspotting" for immigrants?) will be joining Jon Stewart to completely solve the issues of bigotry and illegal immigration within 22 minutes.

I wish they still had Lewis Black hanging around. For some reason, I feel like a "Back in Black" portion would be appropriate. Anyway, this episode will air on Wednesday at regular TDS time (11:00 PM EST).
