So You Think You Can Dance: 2 of 8 Voted Off

Katie Holmes on So You Think You Can Dance(S05E19) This was the gala 100th episode celebration of So You Think You Can Dance. As such, we got a nice video montage of the entire series to this point. It was great seeing some familiar faces again, as well as a very few that I actually forgot about. We even got a quick shot of first season host Lauren Sanchez, the Brian Dunkelman of SYTYCD.

GROUP NUMBER
"One," A Chorus Line

(Contemporary, Mia Michaels) Well, I didn't really like that one at all. A bit of a hot mess all over the stage. With the mirrors and camera angles chosen, it was more confusing than anything else.

SPECIAL GUEST
Katie Holmes - "Get Happy"

Well, this will certainly go down as one of the most hyped guest appearances ever on the show. But how did it go?

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 8 Perform

Ellen DeGeneres(S05E18) While Mia Michaels was a little better during her last guest stint at the judge's table, it was Ellen DeGeneres that excited me the most. I'm a huge fan of DeGeneres, dating back to her stand-up work. And while I think she's hilarious and I love her comedic style, I'm not sure if her presence here made much sense.

GROUP

"Let It Rock," Kevin Rudolf f. Lil' Wayne (Contemporary, Travis Wall)
I'm not sure this offered each individual dancer the chance to shine that Travis indicated it would; either that or they were all shining in the same style. Nevertheless, it was a high energy performance. I actually found the lighting on the costumes a bit distracting from the performances, but as it's a group number, I'm not too worried about it.

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 10 Perform

Jeanine on So You Think You Can Dance(S05E16) America finally has full control of the eliminations on So You Think You Can Dance. Cat reminds us that the couples will all be shuffled randomly. Was height ever a hot topic as is was tonight? The tallest kept getting paired up with the shortest in random draws. At least it reinforced the idea that the pairings were no longer rigged.

I want more Debbie Allen as the third judge. Her comments may be equally insane as Mia Michaels, but she comes off as the supportive mother with the way she speaks and the words she uses.

So You Think You Can Dance: Milwaukee Auditions

Travis Wall(S04E04) Well, this was the final night of auditions and I was really pleased. Not because I haven't been enjoying the dances, but because I appreciate that So You Think You Can Dance is keeping things moving along. By the end of tomorrow night's two-hour episode, we'll know who our Top 20 is and by next week we'll be ready to start voting for our favorites. Things are moving along so quickly. This is a huge improvement over American Idol's lengthy audition episodes before we finally get to their voting block.

All said, there were some pretty amazing talents in every style this year throughout the audition rounds, and there were so many dancers we haven't seen yet. At the end of the audition rounds, I'll give SYTYCD an "A" grade on giving us a good balance of the excellent and not-so-excellent. I didn't have time to get bored with these audition rounds and I'm more than ready to start seeing these guys pair up and show us the goods, so to speak.

So how do you fill two hours with only one city to cover? You add some more auditions from the other cities, of course.
