Dancing With The Stars: Week 2

Cody & Julianne - Dancing With The Stars(S07E04) We're back to the ballroom for week two, without Jeffrey Ross or Ted McGinley. Because of the extended opening week, the couples only had four days to learn either the rumba, or the paso doble. Asked what he was looking for, Len said that learning a new dance in four days is really tough. So, he was fearing the worst, but hoping for the best.

It was one of many questions we would have for the show. Was four days enough time? Is Brooke really that good? Would Kim finally come out of her shell? What would Lacey do to annoy crusty old Len this week? You'll find the answers to all of those, and a rundown of all the week two performances, after the jump.

Dancing With The Stars: Week 1 Results

Ashly Costa(S07E03) We're really getting back into the swing of things now. After the whirlwind of 25 performances in two nights, it was time for a proper results show. As usual, that's both good and bad. Results shows always hold the prospect of musical guests, and professional numbers.

Unfortunately, they also have a tendency to bring iffy comedy bits, and dull taped packages. It's a bit of a crapshoot, but usually worth tuning in. Because, as we all know, no matter how sure you are that a certain couple is leaving, you just never really know. Am I hinting at a surprise elimination? Or just trying to trick you into clicking your way past the jump? Only one way to find out.

Dancing With The Stars: Week 1

Brooke Burke - Dancing With The Stars(S07E02) Just like that, we're back for round two. With the new season seven format, all thirteen couples returned to the ballroom Tuesday night, but only twelve of them would perform. The show borrowed a bit from the results show format as the safe couples were revealed one by one. After each reveal, that couple would perform while the rest of the dancers waited nervously. Some, obviously, more nervous than others.

The second night of dancing offered us a chance to see who learned from their experience performing live. Just getting comfortable with the setting is a huge hurdle to overcome in the beginning of the season. Some of the stars have taken to it quicker than others. To that end, I'm not one to spoil before the jump, but I'll leave you with this. In referencing one set of scores, Tom remarked that the judges were "Bringin' out the big paddles." Was there a 9? A 10? The results of all the dances are after the jump.

Dancing With The Stars: Season Premiere

Misty May-Treanor - Dancing With The Stars(S07E01) Can you believe it? Dancing With The Stars is kicking off its seventh season. In an effort to keep things fresh, this season marks the largest cast of competitors ever. That cast also features both the youngest, and the oldest, contestants to ever appear on the show. There are winners from the Grammys, the Oscars, the Olympics, and the Super Bowl. It should make for quite a show.

In another new twist, there is another new format for week one. All thirteen couples performed Monday night. Tuesday, one of the couples will be eliminated as the other twelve perform a second number. Then, on Wednesday, one more couple will be sent home. With thirteen performances, there is a lot to get to. I'll run them down quickly, with a look at what I think each couple's prospects for the competition are. Because, as we are all well aware by now, the dancing is only part of what keeps people moving on from week to week.

The next Dancing: Lance Bass, Dan Marino, Florence Henderson

Florence HendersonThe naming of the new celebrities for Dancing with the Stars is shrouded in secrecy. Like when they name a new Pope. But In Touch has the details on who is going to be on the new season of the hit ABC reality show.

How's this for a list? Brady Bunch mom Florence Henderson, singers Lance Bass and Toni Braxton (if she wears that dress in the article I might watch), reality star Kim Kardashian, football great Dan Marino, and rodeo star Ty Murray. Actually, the article above calls him "Jewel's boyfriend Ty Murray," which must be a terrible way to go through life when you have your own career.

Of course, ABC won't confirm or deny any of the names of the contestants. Fans will have to wait until August 25, when the show will reveal the names on a very special episode of Good Morning America. Can you stand the wait? (Answer: yes, you can stand the wait.)

Heidi Klum will host the Emmys?

Heidi Klum - Project Runway and host of the EmmysIndeed she will, but she'll have some help. In a change born of trying to keep current with the state of television today, the Emmys will be hosted by the five nominees in the Reality TV Host category. Klum will share hosting duties with Ryan Seacrest, Jeff Probst, Howie Mandel, and (the man that should win it all) Tom Bergeron.

It's a great idea. The standard formula of these shows is something just asking to be shaken up. Klum is probably the biggest question mark here, for the simple fact that she has Tim Gunn to handle much of the unscripted action. I'll be curious to see how she handles the role, and I'm confident that the rest of the nominees will be just fine. The linked article also has a great stat. The average audience of the five nominated shows has been as high as 70 million. Jiminy. The broadcast takes place Sept. 21st, on ABC.

Dick Smothers wants to dance, but no one will let him

Dick SmothersAll Dick Smothers wants to do is dance, dance, dance*, but Dancing with the Stars doesn't want him.

The one half of the Smothers Brothers tells TV critic Terry Morrow that he has applied to be on the hit ABC dance reality show three times, but they keep on turning him down. Smothers says that he loves the show and he could keep up with all of the dancing that has to be done (he's 71), but the show won't even give him a chance.

As Morrow says, Smothers is probably too unknown to be a big draw for the show, since he hasn't been on television in years. Maybe they can do a special "TV Legends" episode of the show, and have Smothers be on it, along with Barbara Eden, William Shatner (hey, he's on an ABC show too), Tom Selleck, and Florence Henderson.

The Emmys - It's never too early to start handicapping

Tom Bergeron and Samantha Harris - Dancing With The StarsAs we wind down the 2007/2008 television season, some are already starting to turn their attentions to the Emmy awards. The Hollywood Reporter has a good article breaking down the categories and the front runners for nominations. Although, it's a four pager, and if that annoys you, you can hit up the print version.

There's a nice bit of spin right off the top as Academy Of Television Arts & Sciences' chairman and CEO John Shaffner says, "The audience is coming back to scripted television!" He goes on to add, "It seems like viewers missed it during the strike. The quality in primetime has never been better. It's so amazing and great that it seems unfair to have to hold a contest." Really John? I guess we give him points for enthusiasm, but all of those articles I've seen about ratings being down across the board sing a different tune. More on the prospective Emmys, after the jump.

Dancing With The Stars: Week 10 results (season finale)

Jason, Kristi, and Cristian - Dancing With The Stars
(S06E20) Episode 20. The big show. We've followed these three couples for two and a half months and it's finally time to crown a champion and put season six in the books. As Tom called them out, we have the Olympic gold medalist, the one-armed hero, and the grid-iron god. You could make a case for any of them taking home the mirror ball, and the title of season six champion. But first, there was one more round of dances to get to. We'll have that, the winner, and so much more, after the jump.

Dancing With The Stars: Week 10, The Finals

Jason Taylor, Kristi Yamaguchi, and Cristian de la Fuente - Dancing With The Stars
(S06E19) After two and a half months, it all comes down to this. As Tom put it, the end is near and the trophy is within reach. Like we have seen in the past, finals week brings with it the big freestyle numbers. There was a new twist this year though, the Cha Cha Faceoff. The couples were tasked with sharing a cha cha number, each of them providing a one minute segment. It all came together to make for a great night of dancing. Read on past the jump for the scores, and a look at each of the performances.

Dancing With The Stars: Week 9 results

Tom Bergeron and Samantha Harris(S06E18) Since the bottom two couples weren't revealed last week, it was difficult to predict who would make it to the final round. I never would have imagined that Mario and Shannon would be absent from the final four. Nevertheless, it was time to send one last couple home.

We had to wait until the last minutes of the results show learn the celebrities' fates, but we had plenty of entertainment to hold us over. The Junior Champions finalists took over the dance floor, and Omarion performed in a high-energy tribute to the Thriller album.

Dancing With The Stars: Week 9

Cristian de la Fuente(S06E17) We've reached the semi-finals, and I'm amazed that Marissa is still in the competition. I expected Mario to make it to the final round, but the fan votes are hard to predict. Tonight the final four couples drew their two dances at random. The lift ban was reinstated, which limited the contestants' options as well. As usual, they would perform one Ballroom routine and one Latin routine.

Ballroom Round

After congratulating the remaining couples, Len warned them that "good enough" simply wouldn't cut it. They were looking for greatness and expected the dancers to up their game significantly.

Dancing With The Stars - The Judges
(S06E16) It was a big night down at DWTS HQ. Not only would the field be set for the big semi-final showdown next week, it was also the show's 100th episode. That milestone meant that many of our favorites from seasons gone by were making their return to the ballroom. In addition, ABC recognized that nothing else they were going to put on tonight was going to measure up to DWTS numbers, so they kicked the whole thing off with a clip-show counting down the judge's ten favorite performances from the first five seasons. That list, and the rest of the results show goings on, after the jump.

Dancing With The Stars: Week 8

Mario & Karina Smirnoff - Dancing With The Stars
(S06E15) Last week things were turned upside down as Jason took the points lead from Kristi and Shannon left in a surprising elimination. No time to worry about that for our couples though, as week eight brings with it two more dances. If that wasn't enough, the lift ban is out the window. Each couple is allowed to do a lift in each of their performances, as long as it is performed in the character of the routine, whatever that means. Now they must weigh the prospects of it all going terribly wrong against the possible gain to be had in points and votes. Would Kristi reclaim the top spot? Or would there be a new leader? All that, and a rundown of all the week eight performances, after the jump.

Def Leppard and the pros

(S06E14) Going into tonight's Dancing With The Stars results show, fans had one question on their minds. Would Cristián continue to dance after his injury, or would he withdraw from the competition? Naturally we had to wait until the very end of the show to have that question answered. The ballroom kids were replaced by Kenny Mayne and Def Leppard--definitely an adults' night.
