Remember way back when the news came that comic
Demetri Martin was going to get his own weekly show on Comedy Central, one that would be produced by Jon Stewart and his Busboy Productions? It was supposed to debut sometime this year, presumably months ago, but here we are nearing the end of October and still no word on when the show is going to debut.
There's a listing on the IMDb for
Important Things with Demetri Martin, and even titles for two episodes, but no dates for when those episodes will be shown (just question marks, and when even the IMDb is confused, we're all in trouble). The Comedy Central site doesn't have any word on the show at all. It's not even listed on the
show page, and a search only brings up Martin's specials. Not sure if he's been on
The Daily Show lately.

Just a day after announcing that they were going to renew both Mind of Mencia and Lil' Bush, Comedy Central has announced that they have picked up a new comedy/variety show from comedian Demetri Martin.
The show will be produced by Jon Stewart and his Busboy Productions. Martin has been a regular contributor to The Daily Show. He also had two Comedy Central specials: one in 2004 as part of Comedy Central Presents and another this past January, Demetri Martin: Person, and a new comedy album These Are Jokes.
I've been waiting for this. Martin happens to be one of the funniest people on the planet. I think his style of humor lends itself perfectly to a weekly sketch show.. I'm sure he'll thrown in animation and observations too. After the jump, a couple of videos from Martin's work on The Daily Show and one of his specials.

I think I've mentioned here before that I'm a big fan of Demetri Martin. Some people don't seem to like him for some reason (not sure why, he's funny and doesn't have any annoying qualities). It's probably just a knee-jerk reaction, to appear hip to dislike someone who has suddenly become hip. But I have no scientific data to back up this claim.
Martin talks to The Onion about how he got started in comedy, what it was like to be an intern on The Daily Show and then an on-air correspondent, how hard standup can be, and how comedy has changed since he started (since he started? What, seven or eight years ago?)
He also updates fans on the status of not one but two pilots he wrote for NBC. Hint: the news is not good. Or maybe it's very good, depending on what you want to see from Martin. He has a new CD out, These Are Jokes, and will film a special for Comedy Central.
