Hey, that X-Files movie now has a title

The X-Files: I Want To BelieveWe told you last week about the new X-Files DVD set and how the episodes on the set might give a clue as to what the new big screen movie will be about. Now we have another clue, sorta: the movie has a title.

Creator and producer Chris Carter has announced that the title of the movie is The X-Files: I Want To Believe. That's a perfect title! As fans of the show know, this was pretty much Agent Mulder's mantra and the caption on a famous poster that he kept on the wall in his office (on the right is a scene from the new movie). The first X-Files movie was titled The X-Files: Fight The Future.

Paley Festival: The X-Files

The X-Files From March 14th to March 27th, The Paley Center for Media is presenting the twenty-fifth annual William S. Paley Television Festival. The Paley Center, formerly the Museum of Television and Radio, says that the festival celebrates "television's rich and diverse programming and the creative process behind the medium." This year the festival included Chuck, Pushing Daisies, The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reunion, Dirty Sexy Money among others.

I've already attended the Buffy Reunion and Dirty Sexy Money (click above for those reports). Last night I went to The X-Files panel. For what happened during the event, read on past the jump.

Some X-Files movie sequel hints - VIDEO

The X-FilesCan you hear the eerie music becoming louder and louder? That's the sound of the X-Files movie being one step closer to being released on the big screens this summer (more than likely on July 25)! Being an X-Files and a spoilers fan, I jumped up and down a few times while humming the show's theme this morning when I stumbled on a SCI FI Wire article that offered just what I was looking for: spoilers about the upcoming X-Files movie!

X-Files sequel starts filming

X-Files 2X-Files fans rejoice: the sequel really is going to happen. In fact, they've already started filming!

On the right is one of the first pics from the set. David Duchovny has his Fox Mulder hair back, while Gillian Anderson seems to be sporting a new do. But I'll stop talking about hair right now because it's weird.

Creator/director Chris Carter says that they're completely dumping the whole alien mythology storyline from the show, since they already "wrapped up a lot of threads" from the show (really?). Instead, the new flick will settle on a standalone plot, which will not only please old fans but also the new fans that Carter is trying to hook into the movie.

And the new host of Masterpiece Theatre is ...

Gillian Anderson... Gillian Anderson!

Yup, the X-Files star will host the new and improved version of Masterpiece Theatre when it debuts on PBS on January 13. The show is going to be split into three different versions in 2008. Anderson will host the Masterpiece Classics, which will feature new adaptations of classic novels and stories, and then, in the summer, a new host will be at the helm of Masterpiece Mystery, the new name of the Mystery! series. In the fall, we'll have Masterpiece Contemporary, which will be modern novels and stories filmed for the small screen.

Anderson is also about to start film the new X-Files movie, along with David Duchovny, Amanda Peet, and Billy Connolly.

Next X-Files movie has a premiere date

mulder; scully; the x-filesMark your calendars, schedule a sitter: the next X-Files movie will hit the theaters on July 25, 2008.

The movie hasn't even started filming yet. The cast and crew will reunite in Vancouver on December 10th (hmmm... I think I need to make a stalker trip to Canada). Not much has been leaked about the plot of this second The X-Files movie. Creator/writer Chris Carter says it will be a stand-alone story, much like the MOTW (Monster of the Week) episodes that fans loved so much. All that's being said is it's a "supernatural thriller", or a downright horror movie, rather than advancing the conspiracy storyline.

The July release date puts the unnamed movie smack dab in the middle of the summer blockbuster season, so Fox is evidently counting on this movie to be pretty big. The first X-Files film, Fight the Future, made $30 million during opening weekend and went on to make $189 million worldwide.

Ten all-time scariest TV characters

nightmare at 20,000 feetEveryone's got their own idea of what's truly frightening. I'm not talking about people or things who just are scary because they're dangerous or despicable. I mean things that truly keep you awake at night, afraid to turn out the lights. Afraid to be home alone. Afraid to fly on a plane. There are a few characters on television over the years who've stuck out more than others as being truly frightening to a handful of us TV Squadders, and we've put together a list (surprise!) of characters who have haunted us for years. If we're digging up old unforgotten nightmares of your own, well, sorry about that.

The list is numbered, but it doesn't necessarily mean these are ordered. Like I said -- we all have a different definition of what truly frightens us. Make sure you list your own in the comments. Click on a number below to get started.

X-Files movie starts filming in December

The X-FilesThe truth is still out there.

David Duchovny, during an interview for the DVD release of The TV Set, reveals that the script for the long-awaited (seriously, it's been ten years!) X-Files movie sequel is indeed done and it looks like they're going to start filming in December.

Duchovny had no further details on plot, though he has hinted in past interviews that this will be more of a stand alone movie and not part of the mythology arc from the show and first movie (aw, come on, I want to know what's been going on with that whole thing the past several years). Duchovny does ask one thing of people: don't spoil the damn movie by leaking info about it. Thank you.

Remember when FOX used to give shows a chance?

Nathan Fillion at the precise moment he learned 'Drive' was canceled.I will never forget being in high school and hearing the news that a new network would soon be premiering. It was only going to be on a couple nights a week, but instead of airing reruns and crappy local shows, it would air all new programs; it was unprecedented.

That network was called FOX, and while many of the programs were of no interest to me, I was really impressed at how they followed through with their promises. Specifically, cutting edge programming and big budgets. I watched Al & Peg Bundy say things that my parents didn't want me to hear. I watched George C. Scott in the only sitcom he ever starred in. Most importantly, I was witness to the phenomenon that became The Simpsons.

Battlestar Galactica moving to Sundays starting Jan. 21

Battlestar Galactica Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune reports that the SciFi channel will be moving Battlestar Galactica from Fridays to Sundays, starting when it comes back from its hiatus on January 21. The show will air at 10 PM ET. This was a move that had been in the rumor mill for a while, so it's not completely unexpected.

(FYI: Keith called his contact at NBC Universal and they confirmed the move. So it's official.)

Of course, they could be moving the show because of the lower ratings it has been getting compared to last year. But Sunday might be a good night for BSG, since the competition (like Brothers & Sisters) doesn't exactly attract the same fan base. It's a move that's not unprecedented; The X-Files established itself with its sci-fi core audience on Fridays before FOX moved it to Sundays and a bigger audience.

Gillian Anderson pregnant with second child

gillian andersonGillian Anderson, formerly Agent Dana Scully on The X-Files, has confirmed that she is pregnant with her second child. Back in April, she announced the split from her husband of 16 months and no, he is not the father. The father is her new boyfriend, who has moved in with her a eleven-year-old daughter Piper (who was born during season 2 of The X-Files).

Anderson is currently living in London where she has been doing a lot of theater work. Most recently, she was seen on American television when she played the lead role in PBS' Masterpiece Theatre's production of Bleak House.
