I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive about
The Colbert Report when it first started. I thought it was a great show, I just wasn't sure how long it would last because Stephen Colbert was doing a character, and I thought the character would become tiresome after a few months (at the most). But here we are a few years later and if anything, Colbert's show has become just as "Must-See" as
The Daily Show. Maybe even a little more. Every single episode is very, very funny, including last night's, where Colbert introduced a new reporter, Larry Wolf Olberado Doocy 360.
As you can probably tell, it's an unholy mix of various cable newsmen (but no women!), including Larry King, Wolf Blitzer, Keith Olbermann, Geraldo Rivera, Steve Doocy, and Anderson Cooper. Just in time for Halloween, I think. Video of the segment is after the jump.

Stephen Colbert will live forever. At least, this is what he hopes. He's
giving a digitized copy of his DNA to video game designer Richard Garriott who will take it to the International Space Station for storage.
"I am thrilled to have my DNA shot into space, as this brings me one step closer to my lifelong dream of being the baby at the end of
2001," Colbert said in a statement.
So, if Earth is destroyed (by a meteor strike, alien invasion, nuclear war or whatever other situations can be made into summer blockbuster), we can content ourselves with the fact that aliens will arrive in the aftermath, take the digital DNA and clone Stephen Colbert. They can then enjoy new episodes of
The Colbert Report long after Stephen himself is gone.
Why stop at Stephen Colbert? Why not Jon Stewart as well? I guess Colbert doesn't actually like the idea of competition. He wants to dominate the networks on planet
Koozebane.

Papa Bear bless the
No Fact Zone for pointing out this gem, just as
Colbert Report fans prepared for yet another week of reruns and the accompanying nights of non-stop sobbing. Those tired of trying to scour the Comedy Central website for specific clips of the show can now visit this handy page of what looks like
all the Colbert Report episodes online. My goodness, it's like the greatest satire-related September Christmas ever.

Although fake news hosts and correspondents are super wonderful and the folks running the equipment do marvelous jobs, there's a great amount of talent that often goes tragically unnoticed. Well, now is the time to adjust the limelight a little bit and focus on one of those groups. The newest issue of PRINT Magazine has an interesting look at the
graphics departments of
The Daily Show and
The Colbert Report, who consistently provide visually stunning and hilarious material that bring half the shows' funny.

"All the Gori Details":
Russia and Georgia's conflict rages on, even though everyone else is playing pool games at the Olympics. President Bush and company seem to think that this sort of conflict is, like,
so old. The show managed to perfectly nail Condoleezza Rice's disapproval of overthrowing government. This was kind of depressing, actually. I would have liked to see more cartoon clips of Michael Phelps swimming against Black Manta.

"Super News Blaster Breaking News Update": Reminding grumpy Republicans everywhere that the
Daily Show considers the unfaithful on both sides of the aisle fair game, the show took on the latest sex scandal to rock the Hill. As it turns out, the allegations about Senator John Edwards having an affair with his former videographer were true. True! Over the weekend, I was briefly intrigued, but then found myself staring intently at her
interesting fashion choices. I recall seeing her in a black top with a sequined peace sign at one point. Classy. As for me, superficial? Boy, am I!

"Indecision 2008:
To Drill or Not to Drill": High gas prices continue to be a huge problem across the country, as citizens have been weeping into their gas tanks just to get something in there. Naturally, drilling is a hot topic in the current presidential race. The media has also been making a big deal out of Obama's suggestion that citizens check their tire pressures, as adjusting to proper numbers does some nice-nice things to gas mileage. Leave the lolz-making to
Daily Show, Fox News. Also, I don't believe the remark about Oedipus and President Bush created quite the mental image that they intended. I'm having trouble looking at Barbara Bush now.

I think I want --
need -- to know what Jon Stewart was talking about with his audience during the Q&A. What was that business about kissing with toothpaste in his mouth? Man, if only fangirls kept track of Jon's Q&A stories as closely as the
Stephen Colbert's.
"Indecision 2008": John McCain's getting a lot of attention for his attack ads against Barack Obama. The coverage will never, ever end about the
celebrity ad, because people love talking about Paris, Britney, and Barack, no matter how much they deny it. Talk about over-analyzing this nonsense. There's no doubting that race is an issue in this... race, but the media is definitely reading too much into the small stuff.

Among other things, he's had an
ice cream and a
hockey team mascot named after him, and now Stephen Colbert once again proves his influence on pop culture by having a
new species of spider named after him. Colbert demanded on his show that a spider be named after him upon learning that one had been named after Neil Young.
Colbert's faux-conservative television persona will have a chance to react to the news this coming Wednesday when East Carolina University biologist Jason Bond appears on the show. The new spider species in question was discovered along the coast of California and will be called Aptostichus (ap-TAS'-tih-kus) stephencolberti.
Colbert has quite the following. I recall not even getting close to seeing him when he appeared at a previous New York Comic-Con to promote his
comic book. I love his show and tend to catch the clips online. I know a
museum has also been named after him as well. I wonder what he'll get named after himself next.

"Easy, Pal... for the US Army": Sometimes I forget that there are still people that are scared of homosexuals, especially in the military. Thanks,
Daily Show, for reminding of the existence of
Elaine "Passive-Agressive Behavior" Donnelly and company. Congress recently had a hearing about gays in the military and the ever-popular "don't ask, don't tell" policy. This was almost as hilarious as whenever I see groups of straight guy-friends go to the movies together and sit with empty seats between each other so they won't be tempted to hold hands or something. Yeah, super-gay hand-holding is definitely worse than alcoholics and convicted felons. Icky.

Has it really been two weeks? I hope you all have been coping better than I have. There were a lot of night terrors and failed McCain jokes along the way, as I coped with my withdrawal. Well, Jon Stewart (and Stephen Colbert) are back and, while they didn't talk about everything I expected them to cover (
FISA? The weird reactions to the latest
New Yorker cover?), there are only so many minutes in each episode.

We are nearing the end of
The Daily Show's two-week hiatus, but I'm suffering from a serious case of the political commentary shakes. In a desperate attempt to curb my withdrawal symptoms, I spent most of July 4th cracking jokes about the FISA Bill, but nobody wanted to hear it and drowned me out with lots of Roman Candles and exploding beer cans. Hopefully, other fans have been coping better than I have, but just in case you aren't, here are a few things to hold you over a few more days.

If there were a way to completely stop people on the Internet from saying, "Why do you keep watching this?
Saturday Night Live hasn't been good since the days of Gildaphil Belushikroyd Normfeyrrell!", I would punch that button (or that person). Thinking a little more optimistically, there can always be better days ahead, for
SNL is forever renewable, with an ever changing cast and crew. The thing that gets the fastest turn-over is the host, who has the opportunity to bring something new and exciting from week to week.
Now that the so-so 33rd season is over, I like to pretend everyone at
SNL has kicked aside all the beach time and BBQ invites to plan something exciting for their return. Picking good hosts is an important part of having a successful season, so I've compiled my own list of nine people that must host, just in case
SNL decides to re-work the entire show based on blog responses. I'm just covering all my bases, all right?

"Indecision 2008":
The Daily Show hasn't really mocked Barack Obama quite as heavily as the likes of John McCain or Hillary Clinton. In fact, they have made fun of the media's wild, paranoid speculation about Obama more than Obama himself. It was good to see them pick on him a bit for his rather presumptuous
faux-Presidential seal, which was quickly pulled and called a "one-time" thing. I loved how most of the audience was too nervous to mock their man. "You know... You're allowed to laugh at him." Also, Barack Obama seems to have made a bit of a
flip-flop recently, turning his back on public finance and calling it corrupt, despite showing his support earlier in the race. I hope he flip-flops more if it means seeing John Oliver as Matthew Lesko again.

"Baracknophobia": The irrational fear of hope is spreading, even among Barack Obama's own people. Obama campaign staffers sent away
two women with head scarves because they didn't want to remind people at the photo op about the rumors of Obama being Muslim. Not as bad as the baby-punching, I must say, and at least he apologized.
"Guantanamo Baywatch": The Supreme Court ruled that prisoners in Guantanamo Bay can contest their detention before a judge. Some folks aren't too happy about this, what with their poor Mexican topiary managers having fewer rights and all. The managers are Mexican, by the way, not the topiaries. Senior Imprisoned Correspondent, Gitmo, stopped by to share his thoughts. Man, Jon Stewart is really no good with puppets. Every voice he does sounds like
South Park's Jennifer "
Taco-Flavored Kisses" Lopez.
