Guess why the new KFC commercial irritates the hell out of me

I thought that, as I got older, I'd mellow out when it came to illogical commercials, but that hasn't happened. I see something in an ad and it irritates the hell out of me every time I see it (and when you watch TV for a living you see the same commercials 20 times a day). So guess why the new KFC "Unthink" commercial irritates me so much. It has nothing to do with the quality of the meal or the price or the arrogance of the two guys eating the chicken.

Hint: think about what you have for lunch every day. Answer later today!

D'Angelo takes on Subway

The only part of the "Save Chuck" thing that I haven't been on board with is the fact that Subway is a part of it. Don't like Subway, with their microwaved meat and paltry toppings and lame service. I've always liked D'Angelo though, and in these ads they say why they're better (though they never utter Subway's name - trust me, they're talking about Subway).

Buy a sub sandwich, save Chuck?

ChuckWhen Jericho was canceled, fans sent nuts to CBS and that made the network rethink their decision and we got another (short) season. Now there's a food-related effort to save NBC's Chuck.

Fans are organizing an effort to get people to go to Subway shops this Monday to support Chuck's season finale, which happens later that night. If that doesn't make sense to you, it's because Subway and their "$5 foot long" promotion were featured on the show a couple of weeks ago. Please do not start sending subs or sandwiches to NBC headquarters. That's not what this is about.

Can someone tell me what the new Quiznos ad is all about? - VIDEO

Quiznos"Put it in me Scott..."

No, that's not dialogue from a new porn movie. Well, actually, maybe it is. The new Quizno's commercial is probably the closest we'll get to a gay porn flick in a mainstream sub shop ad.

Have you seen the commercial (after the jump)? It's for their new "Toasty Torpedo" subs, and if you think it's only a coincidence that they're shaped like long male sex organs, think again. The talking oven, which sounds a little like the gay brother of the HAL Computer from 2001, talks to Quizno's worker Scott about how they "both enjoyed" whatever they did before the commercial started (Scott burned himself...somehow), and now he wants Scott to put his toasty torpedo in him. Pay attention to the part where the oven says "we both enjoyed that." Scott looks down at his crotch. The hell?

It's really hard to figure out what audience they're going for. I guess we should all be grateful that there's no mention of "mayonnaise" in the ad.

Late summer reading: Jared the Subway guy has a book

jared fogleJared Fogle, the man who lost over 200 pounds dining on Subway sandwiches, has just released his first book. The book is a detailed account of every sexual encounter he's ever had, complete with full-color photographs.

I'm sorry, that's actually the book that I'm writing, though really it's more of a pamphlet. Fogle has written a book called Jared the Subway Guy: Winning Through Losing: 13 Lessons for Turning Your Life Around. The book jacket reads that the book is written "with Anthony Bruno," so we can assume Bruno wrote the book, though I'm sure Fogle, like, said stuff to him. That's kind of like being a writer. Anyway, it's not a diet book, since we already know the secret of his success, but it is a motivational book to encourage people to succeed just as he did. If you want a book that teaches you how to have a lucrative sponsorship deal fall into your lap because you devised some completely inane method of weight loss involving a popular restaurant chain, then you should buy several copies right away.
