CBS soaps now streaming online

CBSHere's some good news for fans of The Young and the Restless, As the World Turns and Guiding Light: CBS is now streaming full episodes on its site. New episodes will hit the Web every day at 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., but only for one week.

I predict that bored office workers who never cared about these soaps before will feel compelled to watch them online, resulting in a whole new breed of soap fanatics. I see five men stuffed into one cubicle, each one holding a box of Kleenex and snacking on Pringles as they become more and more engrossed in the storyline. Productivity will plummet, and companies around the United States will be forced to shut down, resulting in massive layoffs and rioting in the streets. I guess what I'm saying is that CBS will destroy us all with this new venture. Or maybe I'm overreacting.

CNN Pipeline is now free

cnnAt least, it will be starting on July 1.

Pipeline, CNN's broadband site that was launched in 2005 under a subscription model, include four live streams plus archived video footage. According to The Hollywood Reporter, CNN never talked about how many people actually subscribed to the service, but I must say this seems like a good choice for CNN, considering how the majority of online content, news and otherwise, is offered for free and supported by advertising. If you charge, folks will simply go somewhere that doesn't.

In addition, CNN will also be redesigning the site for its relaunch.

So there you have it, news junkies: now you can have CNN playing on your computer, FOX News on the TV, NPR on the radio, ABC News on your iPod, and your butler reading you the New York Times all at once. It'll be like getting shot in the face with a machine gun of information. Yee ha.

Catch new Everybody Hates Chris episode on Yahoo

everybody hates chrisNew episodes of Everybody Hates Chris will resume on the CW this Monday, but if you're just too damn impatient you can always click here and watch the next episode on Yahoo. How cool is that? It's a whole bucket of cool, that's what it is. The episode, titled "Everybody Hates Eggs," centers around a class project in which Chris and his classmates are given eggs to care for to prepare them for the responsibilities of parenthood. I like the plot because it makes my habit of throwing babies at unpopular stage acts seem a little less weird. See, I was going for a joke about treating a baby like you would treat an egg. Originally I was going to say something about frying a baby in a skillet, but that seemed too dark. Actually, just forget it and go watch the episode. Seriously, go.

Warner Bros. to let local stations stream Two and a Half Men reruns

Two and a Half MenThis is a first: according to this Wall Street Journal article, Warner Brothers will allow local stations that buy the syndicated reruns of Two and a Half Men to stream the reruns on their web site. The episodes that will be streamed are the ones that aired on the channel the previous week. This may start a trend, as syndicators may start offering episodes of other shows -- the article said "think Friends and Seinfeld" -- for streaming. You know, because those shows are so hard to find as it is.

[Thanks for the tip, Todd!]
