Family Guy: Play it Again, Brian - VIDEO

Family Guy(S06E10) Lois, Peter and Brian take a vacation to Martha's Vineyard. Peter drinks up a storm and Brian confesses his love for Lois. Hilarity ensues.

Seth McFarlane shows his Massachusetts background in this episode (his parents are from there). I saw references to Boston Harbor (the John Hancock building was in the background) and Six Flags New England (which is very close to Connecticut, the state where he was raised).

The show continues to explore Brian's artistic tendencies as he wins a writing award (we later learn the piece he wrote was mostly plagiarized). It's debatable if this is better or worse than the time he was a porn director.

Family Guy: McStroke

Family Guy(S06E08) In a mild parody of the movie Super Size Me, Peter suffers a stroke after eating too many fast-food hamburgers. Meanwhile, Stewie becomes the most popular student at James Woods High School, despite being a baby.

Family Guy has such potential to be an original and funny series and so much of it is wasted. I saw hints of really good ideas in the episode but those were superseded by some hack writing and poorly executed material. Another reason to loathe the WGA Strike.

Spoilers after the jump.

Family Guy: Lois Kills Stewie (Part 2)

Family Guy(S06E05) Lois has realized that she has given birth to a monster and knows what she has to do to resolve it. The world needs more mothers who take responsibility like this.

I never liked episodes which end up saying "the whole episode you just watched never happened", but the nice thing about Family Guy is its tendency to call itself out on its own crap before the viewer can. I believe Brian described it best when he called it giving the audience a giant middle finger.

Family Guy: Road to Rupert

Stewie Griffin - Family Guy(S05E09) For the first time in a month and a half, we finally have a new Family Guy. I'm not sure I understand the thought process behind the programming at Fox, but the bright side is it means we'll have plenty of new episodes for the second half of the season.

The FG team went back to familiar territory this week, bringing us another "Road to..." episode. If you close your eyes really tight, you can almost see the eventual special edition DVD commercial. Like "Road to Rhode Island" and "Road to Europe" before it, this one was split into two separate stories that had virtually nothing to do with each other. And also like those that came before, I preferred the Stewie and Brian story.

Diane: In other news, after several grueling days of frightening uncertainty, I finally get my period.

Tom: Well, Diane, I'm sure you and your brother must be devastated by the loss of the two-headed offspring that might have been.

Hey, Bob's cable is out so I told him I'd cover this week's Family Guy review. If you want to fantasize about Bob while reading this I won't be offended. Okay, let's get to it:

Family Guy gets fuzzy

get fuzzyMost readers know I'm a lover of comic strips both new and old, and when I say "most readers" I mean those readers who are able to read my mind since I don't think I've ever mentioned it before. Anyway, one of the best comic strips out there is "Get Fuzzy" by Darby Conley. If you caught yesterday's strip, you might have noticed Robert's T-shirt features a familiar face. Yep, that's Stewie Griffin's flaming head gracing Rob's torso. Now if only they'd make an animated series based on "Get Fuzzy." That would be, in the words of Peter Griffin, "freakin' sweet."

FOX plans to air Family Guy DVD

family guyNext spring FOX plans on airing the recent Family Guy DVD. Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story was released back on September 27th, but FOX believes there is still some worth in televising the DVD months after it hit store shelves. The episodes, when aired, will be split into three parts, which is how they are pieced together on the DVD. It tells the story of Stewie's search for his real father. When FOX begins to air promos for these "episodes" next spring, there will be little to no reference that they are indeed being drawn from the DVD. I don't really see a problem with this; I mean, it is Family Guy, which people are going to watch no matter what... even if this does seem a little backwards going from DVD to TV and not the other way around.
