Here are the weekly cable ratings, by number of viewers.
Now this is a varied ratings list. Sure, we have Monday Night RAW in there just like every week, but thrown into the mix are politics (the Democratic Debate from CA, the State of the Union and analysis), Law and Order, a movie on Disney, an episode of Monk, and not one but two - two! - episodes of Anderson Cooper 360. The episodes were helped by the fact that they followed the Democratic Debate - one is from 9:52 p.m. on Thursday and the other from 10 p.m. the same night. Eight minutes later. Crazy ratings.
1. Democratic Debate (CNN)

Jon started off by pointing out that the
other night's guest, Phil Simms, called him "Tom" at the end of their interview. I could have sworn he called him "Josh", but I thought I was just hearing things. I suggest that Jon relieve the cutting pain of having an idol screw up one's name by convincing himself that Simms was just so floored to be in his presence, he got nervous. Instant restoration of self-esteem!
President Bush delivered his final State of the Union address the other night. He encouraged the nation to do
stuff and promised to do
some other stuff and then talked about
some other, other stuff. Anyway, we're strong. I swear I actually shuddered a little bit when Cheney smiled. That damn inverted scowl makes me feel cold deep in the pit of my soul. I would also like to point out that, for some reason, Jon's Bush impression has been slipping into weirdly hilarious zones lately. He suddenly turned into a Mr. T/George Jefferson hybrid during the Kyoto Protocol joke.

Veronica Mars (9PM, The CW)
It's State of the Union night (see below), which is usually a television wasteland. For those of us who don't care to watch an hour of meaningless babble, 'Veronica' comes to the rescue. Last we saw the perky detective, she caught the campus rapist and broke up with boyfriend Logan (why, I still can't figure out). Now, she and Papa Mars are on the case of the dead dean.

I've never used Pipeline, the news video service that CNN has incorporate into its web site. I think I went to the site one time to check it out, but you had to register or had to pay for it or something so I didn't do it. But it has received great reviews, and tomorrow we'll be able to see what the fuss is about.
Pipeline will be free to everyone tomorrow (though I'm not sure if you'll have to register first). And they'll have some big stories covered: the Academy Award nominations at 8:30 in the morning, coverage of the Sundance Film Festival, and President Bush's State of the Union Address at 9pm. Plus, I'm sure they'll be live coverage of breaking news and press conferences all day long, not to mention whatever Paris Hilton is up to.

Forget the Superbowl, America had the friggin State
of the Union, peoples. So what did President Bush say? Well, there was a lot of referenceas to 9/11, the war on terror,
and pretty-sounding, uplifting stuff about America and how "together we will make it stronger". Bush also went
into some crazy-talk about placing a ban on creating "
human-animal
hybrids". Dude, I didn't even know there was stuff like that going on in the country. This only makes me want
to start trying stuff... Anyone want to volunteer themselves to have half a rat sewn on their face?

Old and new media, ABC News and AOL News to be exact, are teaming up
to let the people be heard. The effort is being called "The People's State of the Union" and will give people
the chance to respond to President Bush's State of the Union address when it airs Tuesday evening. Both organizations
will feature responses to the speech from viewers and bloggers. These responses will be featured on ABC and AOL News
Web properties, as well as on the air during Tuesday night's special report, and on shows like "World News
Tonight," "Nightline" and "Good Morning America." Essentially, citizens will have about twenty
different ways of having their voice heard. Personally, I think the only thing I'm less interested in than the State of
the Union address is what other people think of it. Nevertheless, if you're into that whole "participation"
thing, this is something of which to take advantage.
