When my editors here at TV Squad asked me if I wanted to live-blog the VMAs, my response was "hell yea!" I then put on a banana suit and danced around the house, singing "It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time" until my wife threatened a divorce.
I've been itching to live-blog
something since coming on board here at TVS, and even though doing it with the VMAs means giving up the first game of Sunday Night Football (and consequently giving up the little that's left of my maleness), I'm okay, When it comes to live-blogging, I have the same standards as a drunk girl at the end of a party.
So, without further ado, let's get to it!

Can Britney Spears make a comeback?
American Idol's brutally-honest Simon Cowell seems to think so. In a recent appearance on
Extra,
Simon said, "I know for a fact there are about 20 record producers...who are waiting to get Britney Spears into a recording studio...some of the best in the world, actually." If she can release a decent record, Simon thinks she CAN have a comeback.
He also
had some advice for Britney's post-rehab personal life. Simon told her to go home to her mother, "lock the door, eat some normal food" and "don't go out with your stupid friends."
If Britney gets her act together, I'm sure she'll get her second chance. Hollywood, after all, is one of the most-forgiving places on earth where numerous fallen idols have risen again after hitting rock bottom.

It seems that ever since Brooke Shields embraced her virginity back in the day we've had a fascination with female celebrities and whether or not they've done the nasty. These days, however, it seems less an issue of virginity (or lack thereof) and more about how the celebrity uses it to their advantage. Britney Spears wore her celibacy like a badge of honor, which worked wonders for her image at the time, but the updated, wilder version of Britney embraces her sexuality to an annoying degree. Jessica Simpson also famously remained a virgin until marriage, but the exact moment they lost it seems inconsequential to me. Considering Spears' case specifically, I think virginity is just as much a marketing ploy as anything else. She may have lost her virginity before any of us knew about it, but we weren't going to know about it until it was beneficial to her as a celebrity. That's not a slam against Britney, that's just how stardom works these days.
