Confession time: I was scared when the call came from on high to help cover
American Idol this year. Yes, I've watched it from the beginning and got wrapped up with the whole Kelly/Justin thing like the rest of the country, and unlike the rest of the country, I actually saw
From Justin to Kelly (thank you, $5 WalMart DVD bin). After the first few seasons, however, I started to lose interest.
I was right there when Ruben and Carrie won, but was in no way a member of "The Soul Patrol." I didn't really care which David took the crown, and I didn't exactly rush out to see Fantasia on Broadway. After seven seasons, all of the contestants started to look the same to me. Everyone ran together, and no one stood out. I know that Daughtry has gone on to have a decent career, but I couldn't for the life of me tell you which season he was on. It was all white noise.
That is, until Nick Mitchell came on the scene.

Honestly, I have no idea who is going to win this year's
American Idol. And neither does Simon Cowell. Mr. Opinionated was uncharacteristically at a loss for a definitive prediction,
telling reporters: "I can't call it at this stage. For Blake, he's a brilliant entertainer, but the negative is he's not a fantastic singer. The advantage for Jordin is she is a great singer and the negative is she hasn't done one performance yet which I can remember as a 'wow."'
Several weeks ago, I decided that Jordin Sparks was definitely a shoo-in as this year's winner. And both
Ryan Seacrest and
the odds makers agreed with me, making me that much more confident in my pick. But after last week's results, I'm no longer so sure.

If you're a Taylor Hicks fan and wanted to learn some interesting pieces of information to share with your friends about him, you've come to the wrong place.
The
OC Register recently
did a telephone interview with Mr. Soul Patrol and learned he didn't really have all that much to say.
Hicks seemed a little standoffish with his responses and just didn't seem very willing to give anything more than a reserved answer to the interviewer's questions (you can see him give the same treatment to our very own Jay Black
here).

I'm not shocked at Ace getting the boot. His number has been up since he couldn't top "Father
Figure." (Ugh, that was like the first week, right? And did you notice that Queen was not in his "Bad
Day" montage? Ha ha ha!) But Chris in the bottom 3?!?!?! I suppose that America is to blame. We let
him down. That's what Paula is going to tell us next Tuesday, I'm sure. But, I guess we are to blame. I didn't
vote for Chris last night. I felt sorry for Ace, so I voted for him. It was a sympathy vote that I wish I could take
back. I figured that Chris would slip into the bottom 3 at least once (before triumphantly winning this whole
thing), but not until a later date. I know this sounds silly, and only confirms my complete absorption into
AI addiction, but I felt a little bit nauseas when I saw Chris standing there next to Ace.
The mere thought of Chris going home prematurely made me want to throw up. So, that
confirms it -- I'm officially a member of Team Chris. I'm pledging my allegiance right now.
