For those wondering, it appears that Butch "Eddie Munster" Patrick is still alive. According to his official website, he's recorded a single called "It's Only Halloween". A clip of this song is played when you navigate to the site. If you want to own the collectible CD, you'd better hurry because only 300 are available.

If you check out the website, you'll see he's even keeping busy doing a lot of work you've probably never heard of. The audio clip shows off Butch's singing talents which can probably be compared to those of William Shatner. He tries to speak the lyrics in a scary voice a la Boris Pickett singing "Monster Mash". It makes me wonder whether Butch's fans are simply in it for the irony.

Comedian and Daily Show trendspotter Demetri Martin appears in the new Fountains of Wayne video for their song "Someone to Love." Martin plays "Seth," a big city lawyer, which is fitting since he himself went to law school, although he did drop out one year before getting his degree.

The song, like all of Fountain of Wayne's songs, is really catchy and you'll probably find yourself singing it in the shower. Or, if you're like me, you'll actually learn how to play it on guitar so you can both sing and play it in the shower. This actually warps the guitar pretty bad, which is why I break into a music warehouse every night and steal a new one.

Recently I mentioned that NBC had a new game show in the works called The Great American Singing Bee. The game show would require contestants to sing lines from pop songs. Well, now FOX has just greenlit a similar game show, this one called Off the Charts (working title). The new series will feature a live band with a singer that will play part of a song. Then, the contestant must sing the rest of the song. The prize money increases as the songs become more obscure.

Meanwhile, CBS is still working on its own new adaptation of the classic game show Name That Tune, though there's not much new information on that particular project just yet. CBS is also creating another reality show called Life As a Song, which has real people breaking into song and dance numbers in order to make annoucements to friends and family.

CBS has plans for two new reality/game shows, one about real people who make announcements via huge dance numbers, and a new improv/sketch comedy game show (hosted by Craig Ferguson) of which no significant details have been released just yet. Both shows have been greenlit by the network.

Life as a Song, is a reality program in which people can make big announcements or ask questions (I predict we'll see a few marriage proposals) through an elaborate song and dance number. The series comes from the producers behind Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

That Stephen Colbert is quite the trendsetter: first he had fans create their own Star Wars videos featuring himself, and later the hyper-literate indie band The Decemberists had their fans also create a music video for one of their songs, which culminated in the great guitar shred-off on The Colbert Report.

Now, Modest Mouse, another indie band --actually, I'm just going to call it a "rock band" and drop this whole "indie" thing if you don't mind-- has teamed up with MTVU and is asking aspiring video music directors to create their own video for the song "We've Got Everything" off the band's recent album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank (which, despite being a huge Modest Mouse fan, I have yet to purchase).

I'm planning on ringing in the New Year like I do every other year: by making sobbing, drunken phone calls to ex-girlfriends, but before that I thought I'd share a cool clip sent to me by my pal James. It's Kermit singing "Lydia the Tattooed Lady" from the first season of the Muppet Show. James and I were in a band together back in the day, and if you were one of the twelve people who heard us play, you couldn't help but admire our ability to make some kind of sound, musical or otherwise, come out of our instruments.

Anyway, James recorded a fun punk rock version of "Lydia" recently, but I had never heard Kermit's version. Terrible, I know, and I call myself a Muppet fan. Anyway, it's after the jump: Kermit's version, not James'.

Weird Al Yankovic's goofy songs was the first music I ever really got into, and his sense of humor pretty much defined my own during my early impressionable years. I've always said that the success of his albums was dependent on the music and pop culture landscape of the time (it seemed that if Michael Jackson was having a good year, so would Al), but this time around I think his new album has also been helped by some great videos that have found a wider audience thanks to YouTube and other video sites.

Weird Al's latest video, a take on Taylor Hicks' "Do I Make You Proud?" titled "Do I Creep You Out?" was animated by the boys at JibJab.com, and you can check it out here. Don't try to find it on television, though, the video is online only. Al plays a lonely stalker who just wants to save a girl's used chewing gum and stick her fingers in his mouth. Personally, I don't think that's too much to ask.

John Kricfalusi, creator of Ren and Stimpy, has made a hilariously subversive video for Weird Al's song "Close But No Cigar." The song is what Weird Al would refer to as a "style parody," meaning it's not a parody of a specific song but it does pay homage to the music stylings of Cake. The characters and poses were designed by Kricfalusi and fellow animator Katie Rice. The actual animation was done in Flash by Copernicus Studios in Canada. I've kind of lost track of Weird Al over the years, but this is a very funny song, and the video fits it perfectly. Lots of hot cartoon chicks, plus a face gets eaten and a squirrel is disemboweled. I don't think I could ask for much more in a music video. I've placed it after the jump:

If you're life has been feeling empty lately and you can't figure out why that is, it's probably because you've never seen a Bollywood version of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video. Nine out of ten dentists recommend you watch the clip I've placed after the jump at least three times a day. I'm not sure why, but they do. The video simulates the zombie dancing from Michael Jackson's original, and the music is Thrilleresque, but I'm fairly certain the man isn't singing "Thriller." Either way, the damn song is stuck in my head now, whatever it is. I think I might actually like this version better anyway, although, like the original, I can't figure out why the girl doesn't just run away. The zombies clearly aren't going to give chase until after they finish their dance number. They've been rehearsing it for days, after all.
