This is a rather confusing week for DVD releases. There are many Taggart sets being released too

Yep, Roommates is atrocious - VIDEO

roommates abc family As a TV Squad contributor who, admittedly, could be considered a "niche viewer" (in that I watch few shows, but never miss an episode), I was naturally hesitant to check out Roommates on ABC Family. A friend guaranteed me that the show was not only as bad as one might expect, but that it was so utterly, bafflingly wretched that investing thirty minutes in it turned out way more entertaining than I'd expected, and not just in the so-bad-it's-funny way, either.

Roommates is so atrocious, its production should be considered a criminal offense, considering that, even as a basic cable program, hundreds of thousands of dollars (at the very least) have surely been invested in the show. And that's money that could have easily gone toward refugees or food banks or, say, into the budget of ABC Family's other critically lauded programming like Greek or Secret Life of The American Teenager.

New TV on DVD releases this week

The Donna Reed ShowHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

Wow, if you bought all of the complete series sets being released this week you'd have a great start for your TV DVD collection: NewsRadio, The Flintstones, The 4400, Sanford and Son, and several others. The NewsRadio set doesn't have anything that wasn't in the individual sets, but it's a great buy if you don't have all of the seasons. The Mystery Science Theater 3000 set (the one with the collectible Crow and lobby cards) might already be sold out, so I'd check on that. I used to watch Zoom back in the 70s, though I can't imagine buying the DVD set.

I don't think I've ever seen The Doris Day Show, but it looks like something I might have to have.

  • The 4400 - Complete Series
  • Cathouse - Complete Series
  • Dark Shadows - Vol. 6: Episodes 179-209
  • The Donna Reed Show - Season 1
  • The Doris Day Show - Christmas Memories
  • Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman - Complete Series
  • The Flintstones - Complete Series
  • Girlfriends - Season 5
  • Good Times - Complete Series
  • The Little Rascals - Complete Collection
  • The L Word - Season 5
  • Millennium - Complete Series
  • Mystery Science Theater 3000 - 20th Anniversary Set
  • NewsRadio - Complete Series
  • Sanford and Son - Complete Series
  • Sister, Sister - Season 1
  • War and Remembrance - Season 1
  • Zoom - Back to the 70s

Family Guy: Peter's Two Dads

Peter Griffin(S05E10) When I checked the schedule and saw the title of this episode was "Peter's Two Dads" I was a little torn. First, the Peter-centric episodes generally have a much higher chance of going off the rails. On the other hand, the possibility that it would be a play on the 80's sit-com My Two Dads, which starred Greg Evigan, Paul Reiser, and Staci Keanan, was intriguing.

Unfortunately (probably only for me), that idea never materialized, and the episode that we did see still left me with something of a mixed reaction. On the good side, it was well constructed, and I give a lot of points to the writers for a well thought out plot. Chris got a bit of the short shrift, but using Meg's birthday as the setting for offing Francis was a good choice. It involved her in what was otherwise a mostly Peter affair.
