The Daytime Emmys are coming.
The nominations have been announced and ABC plans to broadcast the award presentation on June 20 at 8 p.m. (EST) with Sherri Shephard and Cameron Mathison sharing the hosting duties. One of the things that invariably drives soap fans nuts is not being able to see the Emmy submissions; that is, the actual shows that the Blue Ribbon Panels are seeing when they choose the Emmy winner from the set of nominees.
Well, in a landmark move -- one more reason to love the web -- the
National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has teamed with YouTube to create venue to see most of the nominating clips and judge for yourself. That's what I've done and I've decided to handicap the big Daytime Emmys contests. Tell me what you think, if you judge these clips the way I have.

Well, the
Daytime Emmy nominations were not exactly soul-stirring -- lots of repeat nominees, the same old, same old -- so the producers of the Emmy broadcast are trying to inject something new: that means new hosts. Call them the newest odd couple.
Cameron Mathison will team up with Sherri Shepherd to co-host the ABC broadcast of the 35th Annunal Daytime Emmy Awards on June 20. Not coincidentally, Cameron and Sherri are ABC stars. He's Ryan Lavery on
All My Children (and a former contestant on Dancing with the Stars); she's one of the five talkers on
The View. And if you think they didn't ask Whoopi Goldberg first, you don't know TV.

ABC in turning things around on
The View -- at least for one day. In what a cynic might call a stunt,
The View is going to broadcast one show from the next two weeks from backstage. Essentially, what they're doing, is a rerun, but in a way you never saw the show.
On Friday, May 30, the experimental episode will show how
The View is made, by lifting the curtain so you can see how the magic happens. They've chosen to show the upside down, backstage
View on that Friday - and don't worry about marking it in your calendar. You can expect plenty of reminders from Barbara Walters (if she's there), Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. With all that behind the scenes footage, only half of the show as seen originally -- from the camera's point of view -- will be seen.

View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck is coming back to the ABC show on Monday with her new son Taylor Thomas, who I believe used to star on Home Improvement.
Hasselbeck has been on maternity leave since October and has been living in Arizona (her hubby Tim is a quarterback with the Arizona Cardinals, who didn't make the playoffs). The daytime show has been using a lot of celebrity guests to fill in Hasselbeck's seat (and/or Barbara Walters' seat, when she takes the day off from the show) including Dana Delany and Jessica Simpson (and many others, but they were the cohosts on the days I actually watched the show). This will be the first time all five hosts will be back together in a few months.

Some people don't think this should be a "top story" of 2007, as I've heard it decried already around the interwebs, but the fact remains that this feud was all over the news, garnered high ratings and made The View one of the most buzzed about shows of 2007. Regardless of if you think Rosie was being a bully or Elisabeth was being a baby or if both were being words we don't say in polite company, it was a big deal. I know when I heard she was joining the show for its tenth season, my first thought was "The View is still on the air?"

In my review of the October 11 episode of 30 Rock, I wondered if NBC would put up the entire video for Tracy Jordan's 80s novelty song "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" ("Werewolf Bar Mitzvah/Spooky/Scary/Boys becoming men/Men becoming wolves"), and...well, they haven't. But they do have the clip from the show and it has somehow become a hit on the web, even though it lasts only about 6 seconds.
But they did film more of the video. In fact they did four takes that total 15 minutes, so maybe the rest of it will show up in the second season DVD set when it comes out.

(S02E03) "I could never pay an English-speaking woman that little - they'd starve!" - Jack, about his household staff
This year many of us here at TV Squad have been featuring our favorite quotes at the start of each review. Most of the time it's pretty easy to pick out the best line (on a show like Bionic Woman they stand out), but it's not the easiest thing to do on a comedy like 30 Rock. There's always at least six laugh out loud lines and about 5 lines that aren't hysterical but are bizarrely clever. That was true of tonight's episode too, and I hope you agree the above comment was one of the better ones.

New View cohost Sherri Shepherd is going to star in a new sitcom for The CW.
The show will be about a woman who discovers that her hubby has cheated on her and has a kid with another woman. The other family moves in with them (wacky sitcom premise!) and then the gang travels around the world, trying to prove that the earth is flat.

The Cavemen are starting to make the talk show circuit to promote the new ABC sitcom Cavemen (which premieres tonight at 8 after a hefty recasting and retooling). One of the Cavemen made an appearance on The View to promote the show, and quickly made it known he had little time for people who don't believe that cavemen exist, that they ever existed, or that the world is flat.
If you haven't been following, he's talking directly to View co-host Sherri Shepherd, who famously said that she's "never thought about" whether the Earth is round or not and doesn't believe in evolution.
The caveman also breaks a little news and reveals what famous singer is actually a caveman. Video after the jump!

It's 2007. We no longer use leeches in medical procedures, we don't dip people in water to see if they're witches, and television has gone from black and white to color and HD. So why are there still people who aren't sure if the world is flat or round?
I bring this up because of the video after the jump. It's from The View (shocker!), and shows the ladies talking about whether or not new co-host Sherri Shepherd thinks the world is flat. Shepherd, who also doesn't believe in evolution, says she doesn't know because she's "never thought about it." I guess this is the part of the story where I'm supposed to say "everyone's entitled to their opinion," but I just can't in this case.
Prediction: Jimmy Kimmel will be all over this tonight.

Edie Falco has been tapped to guest star on three episodes of NBC's 30 Rock. With the success of the new sitcom reaching epic proportions, NBC is doing everything they can to increase the ratings in the second season. Falco is one of many celebrities who are making appearances on 30 Rock including Jerry Seinfeld.
Last season Nathan Lane, Will Arnett, Molly Shannon and Hollywood legend Elaine Stritch all made guest appearances on the sitcom. Arnett will return this season along with Rip Torn and Sherri Shepherd.

Well, in the end, it's really not that much of a surprise, is it?
The AP is reporting that Sherri Shepherd is indeed the fifth host on ABC's The View. The network will officially make the announcement on Monday morning, according to a source close to the show. Shepherd has already co-hosted the show several times, both during Rosie's reign and post-Rosie, and she had been rumored to be in the top two or three choices to be the fifth host on the show (Whoopi Goldberg started this week).
If things go the way they usually do, Shepherd will not be controversial AT ALL and we'll never report or anything that she says AT ALL. If there's one thing we can say about The View is that it's a show where nothing really happens.

Yeah, so do I.
Were you watching The View the other day and wondering why they announced Whoopi was joining the gang but didn't say anything at all about Sherri Shepherd? TV Guide's Michael Ausiello says it's because she wants a lot more money than ABC wants to pay her. In fact, she wants to make at least what Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are making. ABC is reportedly looking at other celebs, including Kathy Griffin and Jacquie Reid from CNN.
This is the same woman who pretty much no one even knew until she started to guest host on The View, right? And the same woman who doesn't believe in evolution? Yeah, I thought so.

Variety reports that negotiations to have actress Whoopi Goldberg join The View (she's been a guest host several times) are close to being finalized, though the network has made no official announcement just yet.
ABC is also apparently talking with comedian Sherri Shepherd about the possibility of joining the show. Currently the only three permanent hosts are Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
Goldberg would replace Rosie O'Donnell, of course, who left the show a couple months ago.
