The Shield: Chasing Ghosts

(S06E06) This was the last episode sent out as a screener to us months ago. I've said before that having episodes of these shows ahead of time is a double-edged sword. It's great to have them so early, but it sucks to have to wait so long for the next episode. I know, your heart bleeds for me.

The last few episodes were clearly leading up to the final scene in this episode and, no surprise, it was a doozy.

The Shield: The New Guy

To say the Strike Team experienced a shakeup in tonight's episode would be an understatement to say the least.

Claudette once again shows her brilliance by leading Vic along into thinking he's got a chance to stick around at The Barn. Somewhat surprisingly it works like a charm. Vic chums right up to his new replacement of all people, and Julien being added to the team is met with no fuss. Vic is one well-behaved little puppy.

The Shield: Baptism By Fire

the shield kavanaugh
(S06E02) As I was watching this episode I couldn't help but think how ironic it was how Kavanaugh went out of his way to make Mackey look sloppy, when I think Kavanaugh was being the sloppy one all along. How long could he keep up that charade? How long could he keep Amoya under his control and not looking incredibly suspicious?

Meanwhile, as Kavanaugh continues his witch hunt against Mackey (it does feel like a witch hunt, doesn't it?), Vic continued a witch hunt of his own. Though Vic was into being the judge and jury, Kavanaugh was just playing judge.

The first fifteen minutes of The Shield's new season

the shield lem casketJonathan mentioned a few weeks ago that Bud TV would be debuting a sort of "bridge episode" of The Shield. The 15-minute short is now available for viewing on the site, and after viewing it I'd say it plays a lot more like the first fifteen minutes of the new season premiere.

For those who are sad to see Lem gone from the series, this short video will only make you hate what Shane did with even more passion. Read on for a short rundown of what goes on in the video (image to the right is a little teaser for you).

FX to debut mini-episode of The Shield online

Michael Chiklis as Vic Mackey on 'The Shield.'Very cool news for fans of The Shield (myself included) who can't wait for the new season to start. Similar to the comedy short shown online that FX commissioned for Rescue Me last year, a mini-episode of The Shield is in the works. However, no date has been set for when it will premiere.

Here's what we do know. For the first four weeks of its availability (whenever that will be), the episode will only be viewable at Anheuser-Busch's new online media site Bud TV. It's kind of a pain in the butt since you'll have to register with the site to view the episode. After the four week window, the episode (it's expected to cost anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million to make) will be available on AOL and other online outlets. Bud TV will launch the day after this Sunday's Super Bowl.

FX's new promo for The Shield -- VIDEO

Vic and Shane at Lem's grave. For those of you who don't keep up with Nip/Tuck, then you probably weren't watching last week's season finale. That would also mean that you missed out on seeing the phenomenal new promo for The Shield.

It's lengthy too. At almost a minute long and set to a very cool song ("This Night" by Black Lab according to this message board), the promo takes you through the skies of LA before it settles on Vic and Shane standing in front of Lem's grave. Sends chills down my spine. With Dirt premiering in January though, we probably won't see The Shield return until April. This is the second promo that FX has aired for the new season too. The first aired earlier this year during the premiere of Rescue Me.

Thanks to reader DanMacMan for pointing this out to us. You can watch the video after the jump.

Jack Palance dies at 87

Jack PalanceJack Palance is one of those actors who has been around for so long and has been seen in so many varied projects, that when he dies, every type of entertainment publication feels compelled to run his obituary.

Palance died today of natural causes in his California home. He was 87. Palance is probably best known for his long career playing tough-guy roles in movies like Shane and City Slickers (for which he won an Oscar and did those one-handed pushups at the ceremony). On TV, played the lead role on Playhouse 90's landmark 1957 production of Requiem for a Heavyweight, which won a Peabody award. But younger TV fans will likely remember him as the host of the show Ripley's Believe It or Not, which ran from 1982-1986 on ABC.

God, was it creepy when he ended one of those segments about someone with two noses or some other equally freaky subject by slowly saying in his calm, low tone, "Believe it... (inhale) or not." Gave the teenaged me the willies. But I tuned in each and every week. Gonna miss the guy.

Survivor: Exile Island: Episode 8

Terry is determined to not go quietly but his military approach doesn't seem to work well with Casa Dysfunction. It's like having a strict stepdad suddenly come to a disordered family of sulky teenagers. The episode starts with a reward challenge designed to shake up tribal lines. Tribes of three compete for bed and breakfast. Aras gets everyone to go for the team of Terry, Austin and Shane and so Aras, Sally and Bruce are able to best the team of men.

And then the rains come making the reward a little less delightful. Sally, Bruce and Aras find that their breakfast in bed is all soaked but the food makes it worth it. Meanwhile, Danielle and Austin suffer in the rain on Exile Island huddled up together.

Back at camp, Terry just won't give in, he is always playing and always forceful. He quizzes Shane on the pecking order for the final four and finds out who Shane envisions making it to the final four. He immediately begins hatching a plan to shake loose the other two.  When the happy breakfasters return Sally shows off her full stomach. They didn't manage to sneak any treats back to their tribe either. Eager to work on his plan, Terry confesses to Sally that he has the immunity idol. She is immediately agog at Terry's mastery.  Even though their entire team has been decimated, she still seems to see Terry as the all-powerful, all-knowing.
