Here's why: it now languishes on my DVR for days afterward. When it aired on Wednesday nights I would either watch it live or immediately after I put the kids to bed. It was appointment television for both my wife and me; something that we could get together for after a day of work and children and basic mayhem.
Now that FOX switched the show to Thursdays it doesn't have the same importance as it once did. Instead it gets superseded by the other "Must See" shows of the evening. Because there's so much to see that night the DVR gets loaded up with those shows as well, pushing Bones lower in the queue. Then Friday comes around and we watch the other shows, plus that night's entries. With Saturday and Sunday being so busy with life in general I don't get enough time to clear out the DVR queue. By the time the next new episode of Bones airs my wife and I haven't even watched the previous week's episode.

The season four premiere of ABC's hit series
Lost is less than two weeks away. For weeks, fans have been looking for everything and anything to chew on in order to cope with the wait. ABC helped fans trough the withdrawal with those
Missing Pieces mobisodes (the first one was awful but the others ones were pretty cool and even gave some explanations as to what happened between some scenes and episodes), the season four trailer (
short and
long versions), the
8:15 recap, and the
viral marketing campaign that included a sort of online hunt. The latest piece of the puzzle? The season four poster.

The folks over at iTunes have created
this handy list for people who want to spend some time this summer catching up on the television shows that don't get as much buzz (anything that's not
Lost,
Grey's Anatomy,
24). The list includes full seasons of
Friday Night Lights,
Jericho,
30 Rock,
The Shield,
Battlestar Galactica,
Stargate,
The Riches,
Dirt and
Eureka. Also? You can bask in the glory of hastily canceled shows like
Andy Barker, P.I.,
Veronica Mars, and
The Black Donnellys. Oh, and
Studio 60 is on there, but I wouldn't call that a "hastily" canceled show. (The current--and final--season of
The Loop is also on iTunes, though it's not on the 'Missed' list)
This is a great idea. Many of the shows listed get a lot of buzz on sites like ours (because our readers know good television), but the general population doesn't seem to catch on. If only
How I Met Your Mother would get on iTunes... it could definitely use some more fans as it heads into season 3.

This morning, ABC announced that
Lost will get three more seasons, but
only 48 more episodes. That means each season will have only 16 episodes, as opposed to the traditional, full-season run of 22-23 episodes. Executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have agreed to stick around for the final three seasons and guide the show to the ending that they want. (Each guy is reportedly getting an 8-figure deal to stick around) Of course, nothing is being said about which actors will be on the show that long.
This new end point pushes about 20 more episodes out of Cuse and Lindelof than they had hoped.
Last January, the producers said they saw the show wrapping up at about episode 100, but the new deal pushes
Lost's entire run to 120 episodes.
Lost fans, are you willing to wait three more years for answers? Seems like a long time...

While NBC is apparently giving up on
Kidnapped, it has given a full season commitment to
Heroes. The sci fi drama has averaged about 13.5 million viewers in its first two episodes, while poor
Kidnapped only had about 7 million per episode. Critics are calling
Heroes the "break out" hit of the fall, but I think that title is reserved for
Ugly Betty.
Heroes will now get a full, 22-episode season.

Do your friends look at you with disgust when you mention your excitement over the upcoming season premiere of
Battlestar Galactica? Frak them! Go find some friends who understand that it's an awesome show.
Check out
this website to find a Frak Party near you for Friday's premiere. You just type in your zip code and it comes up with a party near your location. If it can't find one, you can volunteer to host. Right now it looks like there's a random smattering of Frak Parties across the United States, Canada and even one in London.

The ever-vigilant TVShowsonDVD has announced that the ninth season of The Simpsons will be ready for purchase in digital versatile format on December 19, just in time for any family members who might be reading this to grab the set for me for Christmas. Hell, I haven't even made it all the way through my eighth season set yet and already a new one has been announced -- not that I'm complaining. The ninth season has more than a few great episodes: the family's trip to New York City; Homer buying a handgun to protect his family; a religious debate spurned by the alleged remains of a dead angel; the students of Springfield Elementary stranded on an island a la Lord of the Flies; Homer and his reluctant family joining the Movementarian cult; Bart and Lisa becoming co-anchors on a student news program while Homer purchases and subsequently almost kills a helper monkey; and Homer climbing the dangerous Murderhorn mountain to earn Bart's respect.

South Park has been doing a fine job of getting the season sets out in a timely manner, and on August 29 the eighth season will be available. Some of the episodes, such as "Awesom-O" and "Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset" are already available on the recent "best of" DVD, but this season also had some other great episodes, such as "The Passion of the Jew," "Good Times with Weapons" (in which Butters is accidentally hit in the eye with a ninja star so the boy's dress him up as a dog and take him to a vet), "Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes," and, possibly the best
South Park Christmas episode ever, "Woodland Critter Christmas." The set will contain all fourteen episodes from the season, and the usual mini-commentaries from Matt and Trey.

I couldn't sleep last night, so I watched an episode of
Hustle at around 2:00 in the morning. During one of the breaks, there was a commercial for the new season and its new time: Wednesdays at 10 PM, starting June 28. What?! That's only thirteen days away!
I'm really surprised there hasn't been more buzz about this. I mean, I wouldn't have known about the US premiere of the new season if I hadn't stayed up that late. It deserves a bigger audience because it's really a fantastic, smart, fast-paced show. Plus, I heard the new season has Mickey and Danny streaking through London. Good stuff.

(S01E11/S01E12) When I decided to go the route of reviewing the 'Serenity' episodes before 'The Train Job', I wasn't quite sure what
Firefly purists would think. Most fans of the series know that Joss Whedon had originally pitched this two-parter to FOX as what would kick off the series, but the execs disagreed. They thought it wasn't the right kind of thing that would draw viewers in for following weeks, so 'The Train Job' was aired first, shuffling off the 'Serenity' episodes well into the season, right before it got canceled.
So, why am I not starting with 'The Train Job'? Because, my friends,
this is how the series should have started. This is what makes sense. This is what Joss envisioned as what would start his beloved series, and I can see why. I mean, who introduces characters at the end of the series?

They've been saying since last year that
Wonder Showzen, a
subversive
Sesame Street spoof from Canada that aired on MTV2, would be back for a second season. Well, now we
actually have an airdate. The second season of what could quite possibly be my new favorite show kicks off on
March 31. Here's hoping my cable provider doesn't take MTV2 away again. They have a nasty habit of moving that channel
around, so much so that my Tivo has no idea what channel MTV2 is anymore. "It's channel 98, not 75!" I
keep screaming, but it never listens.

As
Bob mentioned,
Monk kicks off its fifth season this evening on USA. I'm a late comer to the show and only started watching it
recently. Why I didn't start watching this dry, witty show when it began is really anyone's guess. Nevertheless, I've
been using the power of Tivo to catch up. In fact, my Tivo is currently in the process of recording a
Monk marathon on USA. Monkheads both
new and old will also be happy to know that USA has also bought a sixth season of the series, so we'll be able to
follow the adventures of the obsessive-compulsive detective who hates being touched for at least the next couple of
years.
