Saturday Night Live: Ryan Reynolds/Lady Gaga

(S35E02)
After that Jenny Slate f-bomb nonsense and Megan Fox's not terribly original hot girl material from the season premiere, it was exciting to see a really solid episode (and a star-studded one, at that). Ryan Reynolds did a fantastic job as host (snaps for his wavering voice during the porcelain fountains sketch and accent in SYTYCD), though he didn't have any major stand-out roles. Did I miss the memo that Lady Gaga wasn't just musical guest but co-host as well? Such a role is normally left up to Ryan Reynolds' giant biceps.

It's been a while since we've seen such consistently enjoyable writing in an episode. Usually, there's a distinct lull during the course of the 90 minutes, but I didn't feel it this time. Hopefully, this is a good indication of the rest of the season.

For sale: Scarlett Johansson's snot

Johansson, LenoLast night, Scarlett Johansson blew her nose on Jay Leno's show. Today, it's for sale. What came out of it, I mean, not the nose itself.

Johansson has put the tissue and its, um, contents on eBay to raise money for a charity she supports, USA Harvest. Johansson says that she got a cold from Samuel L. Jackson, one of her costars in the new movie The Spirit, which opens on Christmas and looks crazy as hell.

Isn't there some sort of rule on eBay that can't sell bodily fluids or body parts or anything like that? Doesn't sound like the most sanitary thing to buy and ship cross country and store in your home, even if she did put it in a sandwich bag. This could be the worst trend to hit the world of celebrity in years. I don't want to own Danny DeVito's toenails or Alyson Hannigan's earwax or Rainn Wilson's tears.

Saturday Night Live: Scarlett Johansson/Bjork - VIDEOS

Scarlett and Bjork(S32E18) Scarlett Johansson hosted just over a year ago (January 2006), but I don't remember much from that episode. I only recall the "Lazy Sunday" buzz still going strong, and nothing about Scarlett's performance. I suppose that entire month was a bit of a cupcake-y blur.

I wasn't expecting much from Scarlett this week, so I think she did okay. She was one of those hosts that couldn't tear their eyes away from the cue cards at any time, but at least she made each of her characters varied and fun.

Eva Longoria on top of Maxim's Hot 100 again

eva longoria; maximDesperate Housewives star Eva Longoria claims she's shocked that she was once again named No. 1 on Maxim magazine's seventh annual "Hot 100" list. Well, me too. I kinda thought Eva Longoria's flame went out this season (along with the buzz around DH). Maxim says the list is of women who have "a tremendous amount of buzz surrounding them, undeniable beauty and a promise of greater things to come."

Also on the list: Jessica Alba, Angelina Jolie, Stacy Keibler, Scarlett Johansson, Cameron Diaz, Kate Bosworth, Keira Knightley, and Christina Milian. Fellow Desperate Housewives Nicolette Sheridan and Teri Hatcher are also on the list: at numbers 48 and 73.

Should Isaac Mizrahi work Oscars red carpet?

Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi sparked a lot of discussion following his behavior on the red carpet last week while co-hosting the Golden Globes arrival show for E! Some outrageous moments include grabbing Scarlett Johansson's breast, looking down Teri Hatcher's dress, questioning Eva Longoria about her pubic hair, and referring to Charlize Theron's character in Monster as a "scary dyke with bad teeth." Yes, he was totally sexually harassing these women. Although none of those actresses have filed any complaints about their treatment, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is skeptical about whether Mizrahi should be working the red carpet during the Oscars. A spokesman for the Academy said they expect that Mizrahi won't behave like that on their red carpet and, if he does, "I cannot predict what we would do afterwards."

Did anyone watch the E! preshow? Was it offensive? I didn't see it, but this totally makes me want to watch the Oscars preshow in March. I'm hoping he takes Russell Crowe down a notch or two.

SNL: Scarlett Johansson & Death Cab for Cutie

Scarlett JohanssonAfter the unbelievable buzz that the "Lazy Sunday" video created, SNL had a lot riding on this, the first new episode of 2006. Save for the few mediocre sketches that we've come to expect, this was pretty good episode. Scarlett Johansson hosted (while she didn't mention it in her monologue, she's obviously promoting her new film Match Point) and she had some extremely funny moments. And just to clear it up now (for those of you who didn't see it) there was no Digital Short. But that's good because like anything on this show, if they overuse it then it gets old fast.

Cold Open - Interesting story about this. A good friend of mine works at NBC and every few weeks he gets to help with the audience duties at SNL. He was there last night and in case you couldn't figure it out, that Pat Robertson thing (while funny) wasn't supposed to open the show. He said there was a Hardball sketch which included Sudeikis as Tom Delay and Forte as Zell Miller but it died during the dress rehearsal so they cut it. The Robertson cartoon was supposed to be part of the "Darwin" bit that aired later but they squeezed it out and put it at the front of the show. Hard to believe that Hardball was that unfunny, but Pat Robertson claiming that Fred The Baker was killed because he desecrated bread and filled it with Bavarian creme was hilarious.
