Somehow, I never imagined that Sarah Jessica Parker's next TV gig after Sex and the City would be a reality show about art. In fact, it makes me a little sad thinking she'll be doing that instead of some fabulous new series with big stars and groovy music.
The hour-long show is described by Elves' Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz as a Project Runway-style competition, only with art instead of fashion. Aspiring artists compete to produce various styles of artwork, including painting, sculpting, etc., which is then judged by a panel of experts.
I tried and tried to get into Sex and the City, but two things stood in my way. One, I have testicles, and two, I just don't think the narrative was that strong. I thought I'd like it because it was about NYC and had sex and women in it and the main character was a writer, but it just never happened.
Of course, we now have the big screen adaptation of the series coming on May 30, and people who have never seen the show, but plan on seeing the movie (not sure who that would be, but maybe there are some), and fans of the show who haven't watched it in a while might need a primer. Well, BuzzSugar has taken care of that for you. They list the 12 essential episodes you have to watch before you see the big screen flick. There are two episodes from season one, one from season two, three from season three, two from season four, one from season five, and three from season six (this is in addition to the first and last episodes).
Have you noticed lately that the new faces cropping up on TV series in starring roles are often actors you've never seen before -- or if you have, it was in a supporting role of a feature or a foreign TV show? Think about it, Lee Pace as the Pie Man on Pushing Daisies, Jonny Lee Miller on Eli Stone, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in New Amsterdam, Michelle Ryan in Bionic Woman, all of these leads are relatively new faces. That's one way to cast series. Another is for big stars to take to TV, if not for the first time, than for a return.
In an interesting article at IGN.com, blogger Travis Fickett points out that there used to be a line of demarcation between the worlds of acting: film actors vs. television actors. But nowadays the stars are going back and forth a lot more fluidly.
After treating fans in early December with a teaser that practically gave nothing away (especially if you were keeping up with movie spoilers), New Line Cinema released today the official movie trailer filled with Sex and the City goodness! This trailer, in HD format no less, not only confirms some of the spoilers that have been posted on the net over the past months, but also gives fans some fresh info about the four ladies.
It's been a little over two months since we last reported about the Sex and the City movie here at TV Squad. Therefore, it is time to bring you up to speed with the latest happenings since the first trailer was released in early December.
A few days ago, New Line Cinema, via their official SatC blog, posted the hi-res version teaser poster they released mid-January (see picture on the right) of the romantic comedy set to be released on May 30.
(S04E02) Tim Gunn, you lied to us. You told us that this would be the greatest season yet. I have reason to believe you purposely misguided us to boost ratings. Tim, I thought you were better than this.
I know we're only two episodes into the season, but I'm already bored with everyone. Remember the days of Austin Scarlett or Santino Rice? People that dared to think outside of the box and (occasionally) looked good doing it? Right now we only have Elisa, and her craziness may be more of a handicap than a good thing. I'm bored, Project Runway, and I demand that you entertain me.
A little over a month has passed since our last article about the Sex and the City movie. Has the novelty already worn off? In early October articles and on-set reports about the movie were pouring all over the web but now, SatC movie news are getting quite rare. Nonetheless, I roamed the web to find the latest happenings since mid-October.
Spoilers for the upcoming Sex and the City movie have been quite popular here at TV Squad. Since our last crop, a lot of information and pictures have made their way to the world wide web... so did the news that some of these spoilers may actually be foilers, or at least not the entire truth!
About two weeks ago, I gave you the first crop of Sex and the City movie spoilers. These spoilers didn't tell us much about the four girls but gave us a glimpse at the role Dreamgirls' Jennifer Hudson would play. Now that shooting is underway, reporters, paparazzi and fans are doing their best to catch a glimpse of the actors at work and bring us news from the set. This week they delivered!
The on-set picture on the right shows that the ladies will be as fashionable as they were in the series. But that's not what you really want to know, right? You want to know if the ladies are still with their men?
Even though I never was much a fan of Sex and the City (I watched a few episodes here and there including the finale), I know how much the series meant to many TV fans and that a lot of people are looking forward to the movie. Richard reported about a month ago that Mr. Big would appear in the movie alongside the four ladies but, other than that, not much had been leaked about the movie.
Since the announcement that SatC was heading to the big screen was made, I've been poking my spoilers sources for gossip about the movie. Today, they delivered.
Unlike Adam, who first reported back in April that Sex and the City was heading to the bigscreen, I have no opinion about the former HBO comedy. I didn't watch the original run on HBO (except the very last episode) and never watch an episode of the watered-down, syndicated version. I also would not like to have children ice skate across my face. Rollerblade across it? Fine. Just not ice skates. Those things hurt!
If you're over 30, you may remember the halcyon days of Studio 54 when, in the late 70s and early 80s, you couldn't snort a line in the ladies room without tripping over a wasted Drew Barrymore and a gaggle of those Annie orphans. Those Broadway babies were the toast of the town back in the day, and a new Showtime documentary - Life After Tomorrow - tracks down those former orphans to find out what happened to their showbiz aspirations. The most famous member of the cast - Sarah Jessica Parker - is on hand for the reminiscences, but so are the 39 other girls that didn't live the dream after their Annie success had come and gone.
The documentary promises some real ugly - eight shows a week, cat-fighting stage moms, salacious stagehands and a Menudo-style dismissal when puberty set-in. There's no business like show business when it comes to robbing childhoods and crushing dreams. Have your children watch this cautionary tale beginning on December 24th.
The ongoing saga of the Sex and the City film reminds me of the Carrie and Mr. Big relationship. Yes. No. Yes. No. Just make a decision already. Last June, Kat reported that it just wasn't happening. But wait, things change. The latest up in the roller coaster production ride comes from a rumor over at OK magazine. They have a story up that says, "...substantial negotiations have opened with each of the star's teams..."
That's a long way from actually making the movie, but a step in the right direction. The thing I don't get... is there really a market out there for the Sex and the City movie? I quit watching around the time that Miranda got pregnant because I just lost interest. Unless the story for the movie is going to be that Carrie and Charlotte have given up on men and now spend their days frolicking naked in Charlotte's apartment, I can think of dozens of TV shows I would rather see jump to the big screen. Is it just me? Would you go see the Sex and the City movie?
