New TV on DVD releases this week

Fawlty TowersHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

I wasn't even aware that there was already a Fawlty Towers complete set out. Or maybe I knew it and forgot and didn't get reminded of it until I heard about the new remastered set that comes out tomorrow. I'm gonna get that.

I'm also tempted to get Vegas, just because I liked that show and haven't seen it in years. I hate these "Volume" sets though. Just give us the whole season!

  • Black Adder - Black Adder 1, II, III, IV, and V (All remastered) and Ultimate Edition
  • Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman - Complete Series (New package)
  • Eleventh Hour - Complete Series
  • Faerie Tale Theatre - Bedtime Tales and Magical Tales

SpongeBob SquarePantsHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

I don't care how much controversy there is, why would anyone want to buy the Jon & Kate Plus 8 DVDs? Would you really want to sit around a year or two or five from now and watch the episodes again? Why?

There's a new Route 66 DVD set out, Season 3, Volume 1, but if you got the Season 3 collector's set from Best Buy or Critic's Choice, they've issued a recall.

  • Charlie's Angels - Season 4
  • The Donna Reed Show - Season 2
  • Hotel - Season 1
  • Jon & Kate Plus 8 - Season 4, Vol. 2
  • The Lucy Show - Season 1

Route 66Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

One of these days I'm going to get these Route 66 sets. Since I haven't bought any so far and this is a Producer's Picks set, it might be a good place to start. Don't remember the Fat Albert Easter special. Maybe that's the one where he ate a lot of candy and got fat?

And if you haven't gotten the older season one set of House yet, you should buy this one because it's "Anamorphic." Which I think means it was filmed underwater.

  • A Haunting - Demon Angels and House of Fear
  • Alvin & The Chipmunks - Mystery of the Easter Chipmunk
  • Dragon Ball Z - Season 8
  • Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids - Easter Special
  • Friday The 13th - Season 2
  • House - Season 1 (Anamorphic Edition)
  • The Inauguration of Barack Obama on CNN
  • Kennedy - The Complete Miniseries
  • Life with Derek - Let The Games Begin

Man From U.N.C.L.E. DVD setHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

The complete series sets seem to be coming fast and furious these days, though there really isn't anything here that I want to spend the cash on (already have The Outer Limits). I have the first Man From U.N.C.L.E. complete series set that Time-Life did several months ago (this one is from Warner). The Starlost? Maybe as a curiosity, but I doubt it. The Incredible Hulk? Eh. Knight Rider? God no.

  • According To Jim - Season 1
  • Ben 10: Alien Force - Season 1, Vol. 1
  • Dynasty - Season 3, Vol. 2
  • Family Guy - Vol. 6, Freakin' Sweet Party Pack, and Total World Domination Collection sets
  • The Incredible Hulk - Complete Series and Season 5
  • Knight Rider - Complete Series
  • The L Word - Season 5
  • Looney Tunes - Looney Tunes Golden Collection, Vol. 6 and Spotlight Collection, Vol. 6
  • The Man From U.N.C.L.E. - Complete Series
  • The Naked Brothers Band - Season 2
  • The Outer Limits (Original Series) - Complete Series
  • Route 66 - Season 2
  • The Starlost - Complete Series
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Season 2, Vol. 2

Oh, so THIS is where Carson Daly has been - VIDEO

Carson DalyI've been really snarky the past few weeks about Last Call with Carson Daly. The show has just seemed to be on an endless stream of repeats, even when all of the other NBC late night shows have been new, and I (and several readers) haven't understood why the show can't air some new episodes (or why the show is still even on, to be honest). Now I think I've figured out at least part of the reason why the show has been in repeats lately.

Daly has been touring America!

Jeremy Slate dead at 80

Jeremy SlateVeteran character actor Jeremy Slate - you might not know the name but you definitely know the face - died of complications from throat surgery last week in Los Angeles.

Slate was known for his movie roles in Girls! Girls! Girls!, Lawnmower Man, and Hell's Angels '69, but he was even more known for the massive amount of work he did on the small screen, starting in the late '50s. Slate was a regular on the 1960 series The Aquanauts, and had guest roles on many shows, including Route 66, Perry Mason, Dr. Kildare, Naked City, Have Gun, Will Travel, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Mr. Lucky, The Untouchables, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Bewitched, Combat, Tarzan, Bonanza, Ironside, Mission: Impossible, Mannix, Wonder Woman, The Wonderful World of Disney, and many others. Most recently he guest-starred on an episode of My Name Is Earl.

I remember him most from his two soap roles: he played Chuck Wilson, Asa's assistant, on One Life To Live for many years, and had a short-lived role as songwriter Locke Walls on Guiding Light in the mid-80s (he was involved with Alexandra Spaulding and her son Nick, if I'm not mistaken).

Herb Leonard dead at 84

Martin Milner, George MaharisVeteran TV and movie producer Herb Leonard died of cancer last night in Hollywood.

Besides directing the movies Going Home and The Perils of Pauline, and producing several movies including those two movies, Popi, and Friendly Persuasion, Leonard was also producer on three classic television shows: The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, The Naked City, and Route 66 (the original, not the remake in the 90s). Interestingly, he was a production manager on two famous serial dramas in the 40s and 50s: Atom Man vs. Superman, which became the Superman TV series, and Batman and Robin.

His last credits were Katts and Dog, a TV series in the late 80s, and a 1974 Three Stooges anthology film.
