Stargate Atlantis: Midway

Jason Momoa and Christopher Judge - Stargate Atlantis
(S04E17) First, my apologies for this being so late. Rich and I got some wires crossed and we both ended up pointing at each other saying, "Crap, I thought it was your turn!" Better late than never though, right? Anyway... "Midway" has been one of the brighter spots on the upcoming schedule all season simply because Teal'c was returning. I'm sure that for many fans, the return in and of itself was cause to celebrate the episode. I have no special preference for Teal'c myself, so that didn't totally sell me on the episode, but the story he brought along with him did. With a couple of nagging exceptions, it was very good.

Stargate Atlantis: Quarantine

Sheppard and the Major try to disable the self-destruct

(S04E13) 'Wait, what are the other numbers?' -- Teyla

'42.' -- Sheppard

'What is that?' -- Teyla

'It's the ultimate answer to the great question of life, universe and everything.' -- Sheppard

I seem to be getting the episodes of Stargate Atlantis to review that remind me of episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. This week's episode, in which various members of the Atlantis team are trapped in different parts of the city after a false quarantine is declared, reminded me very much of the TNG episode 'Disaster', in which the crew members of the Enterprise are trapped in different parts of the ship after being struck by a quantum filament.

Stargate Atlantis: Miller's Crossing

miller's crossing(S04E09) Well, that wasn't what I expected. When I saw that Meredith and his sister Jeannie were going to be kidnapped this episode I thought that it would be some light-hearted romp with the two of them bickering back and forth while they tried to get past the inept kidnappers. Boy, was I wrong! While there were some light touches between McKay and Mrs. Miller this was a pretty serious episode that dealt with some heavy ethical issues.

One of these issues involved stealing classified alien technology from a military organization. This is what Henry Wallace of Devlin Medical Technologies did to try and save his daughter. How did Wallace know about the nannites that McKay and his team on Atlantis were working on? Apparently, DMT provides the subcutaneous transmitters to the Stargate program and Wallace was smart enough to put two and two together to find out about the nannites.

Stargate Atlantis: Tabula Rasa

Drs. Keller and McKay from this week's episdoe fo Stargate

(S04E06) One of the complaints that many have about Stargate Atlantis is the amount of one-shot stories that air as opposed to constant episodes involving the continuing battle with the Wraith, or Replicators, or Romulans, or whomever the evil race du jour is. While a continuing storyline such as this would be all well and good I think that it would also be boring and perhaps deter new viewers from watching. Heck, even Babylon 5 and the later seasons of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine had stand-alone stories. By allowing these episodes Atlantis gives newbies a chance to jump on without being utterly confused.

Stargate Atlantis: Sateda

(S03E04) This has to be one of the best episodes yet. Shep's team starts out on some random planet. Ronon has a bad feeling, and Rodney is his usual pessimistic self. Upon entering the village, someone starts shouting Wraith bringer and things turn ugly. Rodney gets uh, shot with an arrow, and they make off to the gate post-haste. The villagers manage to stun Teyla and Ronon before Shep gets back to help up. In the end, even Shep gets a stun dart in the arm. (oops.)

After nap time, we find out that the backwoods villagers are REALLY backwoods villagers. They've actually called the wraith to come get Ronon. (Seriously, Hi guys you ate my daughter, but I believe you'll leave us alone now.") Meanwhile Rodney's hopped up on Morphine.
