Robin Roberts returns on Monday

Robin RobertsGood Morning America co-host Robin Roberts will return to the ABC show on Monday.

Roberts underwent surgery last week after discovering she had breast cancer. The surgery went well and Roberts is now awaiting test results to figure out what her next step should be. ABC spokesperson Bridgett Maney says that Roberts is feeling great and is looking forward to getting back to work.

Roberts will be returning at an interesting time, as the newest Nielsen numbers indicate that the ratings for the 18-49 demographic are down 10% for all morning shows (GMA, Today, and The Early Show) compared to the same time last year. Meanwhile, the cable news morning shows have seen increased ratings.

Robin Roberts has breast cancer

robin robertsGood Morning America host Robin Roberts announced this morning that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She'll have surgery on Friday to have a lump removed. She found the lump on the same day she was reporting on the death of a colleague, movie critic Joel Siegel, who died of colon cancer.

Roberts says her doctor believes they caught her breast cancer early. She said, "...my doctor expects me to be flying planes and hanging on to submarines in the middle of the Atlantic and scaling the Mayan pyramids in no time." She also wrote about her diagnosis on ABC's blog.

Roberts is 46 and does not have any family history of breast cancer.

ABC fills empty slot at Good Morning America

chris cuomoABC News announced that Chris Cuomo will join the team at Good Morning America. Cuomo will retain his positions as co-anchor of Primetime Live and as the network's senior legal correspondent. So... that'll help when he has to interview Britney Spears. Actually, that'll be Robin Roberts' job. Cuomo is sliding into her old position as a news reader and features reporter. Cuomo joins GMA on Sept. 5.

Did Today break agreement with Floyd Landis and GMA?

Floyd LandisAs if Floyd "Testosterone" Landis doesn't have enough problems, now he's in the middle of another morning show war between The Today Show and Good Morning America.

Landis made the rounds on all the networks yesterday with his wife, defending himself against allegations that he cheated to win this year's Tour de France. He had an agreement that he would do an interview with GMA host Robin Roberts live, and then the interview he taped earlier with The Today Show would be shown after the live interview aired on GMA. But Today got sneaky and aired their interview before GMA did theirs. And that ticked off both GMA and Landis.

Someone at NBC said "I find it interesting in light of Mr. Landis' situation that he would question anyone's integrity right now." Ouch.

Landis will appear on Jay Leno's show tonight to answer more questions.
