Never mind David vs. David, what about Sir Guy vs. Benjamin Linus?

Michael EmersonYeah, everyone is going to be voting in the David Cook vs. David Archuleta American Idol final, but there's another contest going on and your vote is needed.

As we've been talking about recently, Redeye in Chicago is having their annual Best Character on Television poll, and it's down to the final four. After weeks of voting, the matchups are Sir Guy of Gisborne (Robin Hood) vs. Michael Scott (The Office) and Benjamin Linus (Lost) vs. Liz Lemon (30 Rock). Right now, Sir Guy is destroying Michael Scott (looks like Scott is going to fail at this too). In fact, I'm surprised that Sir Guy has such a rabid following.

As for Linus vs. Lemon, that's a lot closer, but it looks like Linus is going to win, which will set up a big finale where Linus goes up against Sir Guy. I have to vote for Linus, but I think it's going to be a battle. Voting for this round ends Tuesday at 2pm.

RedEye readers love Benjamin Linus but not Don Draper

Jack McBrayerAs we told you last week, RedEye is in the middle of their annual Best Character on Television tournament, and now we're into the second round. It looks like some strong favorites have emerged, while some fan favorites have been voted off the island.

That wouldn't include Don Draper from Mad Men (who lost to Jermaine and Bret from from Flight of the Conchords), Morgan Grimes from Chuck (who lost to Michael Scott from The Office), or Captain Jack Harkness from Torchwood. He actually lost to Herbert from Family Guy. That has to be embarrassing.

RedEye tries to find the best character on television

Michael EmersonPolls/contests like this always make me a little nervous. I just know that they are going to leave out one of my favorite characters, and it just ticks me off.

The folks over at RedEye in Chicago are holding their 2nd annual Best Character on TV poll. They give you a list of characters to go up against one another (in different "regions") and you vote for the one you like the best. It's tournament-style, so characters will be eliminated as the weeks go by until we're left with a winner. This is the first round of the voting, and it ends this Friday, May 9, so get those votes in now.

Vote for your favorite Simpsons character

Which one of these is your favorite Simpsons character? Now that Shrek-mania, Spider-mania, Pirates-mania, Transformers-mania, Rat-mania, Potter-mania and Evan Almighty-mania have come and gone this summer it's time for Simpsons-mania to rev itself up in anticipation of The Simpsons theatrical release at the end of this month. What better way to get into the swing of things than to vote for your favorite Simpsons character.

That's easily done, courtesy of The Chicago Tribune's Redeye website. The first round of voting featured sixteen match-ups. Among those competing were Homer versus Selma and Patty, Marge versus Fat Tony, and Bart versus Principal Skinner. The best match-up, according to the website, was Comic Book Guy versus Apu. Out of nearly 10,000 responses Apu beat C.B.G. with 62% of the vote.

Capt. Thrace trounces Jack Bauer in RedEye character contest

Red Eye's contest logo

The Chicago Tribune's/RedEye's NCAA tournament-like contest for the best character on TV is all over. And in the end, it was no contest at all.

RedEye announced today that Battlestar Galactica's Capt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace seriously trounced 24's illustrious terrorist hunter Jack Bauer by getting 3,061 votes to his 777.

Whoa. I did not expect the seemingly invincible Bauer to be defeated by anyone. In just this season alone, Bauer has deactivated a nuclear weapon, wielded a cigar cutter as an amputation device against a Russian diplomat and used plastic wrap as an interrogation tool on his own brother. Just mere hours after being released from a Chinese prison. I guess Bauer has met his match, and it's not in the form of a terrorist.

RedEye's best TV character contest, Jack Bauer vs Lost's Sawyer

Redeye graphic

It's March Madness time. But why should college basketball fans have all the fun? The Chicago Tribune's RedEye is having a contest to determine who's the best character on TV.

Set up into brackets a la the NCAA tourney, the contest is already down to the elite eight . And, just like the tournament, at least one of the elite eight match-ups is no contest. Who doesn't think that Dr. Gregory House, of House, will beat Dwight Schrute from The Office?

The toughest region? Region one: Jack Bauer, of 24, versus Sawyer Ford of Lost.
