Super Skank Wednesday: The men of I Love New York - VIDEOS

Tango and Mr. Boston picking his noseWelcome to Super Skank Wednesday. This is where I celebrate the awesomely skanky people on the following shows: I Love Money, Charm School, New York Goes to Hollywood, and The Surreal Life. Basically, I'll discuss the skankalicious shows that make VH1 the network it is today.

For this week's Super Skank Wednesday, I've decided to list my favorite "manks" from I Love New York. See who I picked after the jump.

The Next Great American Band: Episode 3

he Next Great American Band(S01E03) The field of bands narrowed by two tonight on The Next Great American Band. So, we're down to ten bands who specialize in various genres. I'm not sure how much I enjoyed the way they did the reveal of the two bands going home. It seemed a bit needlessly cruel, kind of like cruel and unusual punishment.

Each band sang prepared and rehearsed one of their original songs and then a song from the vast array of Elton John and Bernie Taupin numbers. The bands were called out one by one to perform. If they performed, they had made the cut for the week. The two bands who didn't make it had to go through all the rehearsals and sit foolishly and uncomfortably waiting, the camera panning them throughout the show, until the very end. When it was down to three bands, poof.

Rock Star: Supernova has to find a new name

supernovaHey, guess what? You can't steal another band's name, dude. A judge ruled that Tommy Lee's band has to change its name after the finale of CBS' Rock Star: Supernova, because another band already has the name 'Supernova'. The original Supernova is a punk trio out of Orange County, California. They filed suit earlier this summer and got an injunction yesterday to prevent CBS, creator Mark Burnett and every member of the band from performing or recording under the name Supernova.

The new Rock Star band, whatever they're going to be called, goes on tour starting on December 31. Maybe we'll find out their new name when they crown a winner tonight?

The real Supernova sues the new one

supernovaIt turns out somebody already came up with the super-lame Supernova name for their own band. According to MTV News, the Orange County-based punk band, Supernova, has filed a trademark infringement suit against producer Mark Burnett for this summer's Rock Star: Supernova. The original Supernova formed in 1989 and released four albums, the most recent in 2000. The band is still alive and kicking: recording a new album and performing gigs next month. The lawsuit names Burnett, his production company, and the three members of the new Supernova band: Tommy Lee, Jason Newsted and Gilby Clarke. The band wants Burnett to make it clear that the television show is not associated with them, wants to prevent Burnett from trademarking the Supernova name, and claims the producers of Rock Star knew the band existed and was still together. Didn't anyone check out iTunes before naming the new band?
