No, it's not another lamentation about those overlooked shows that really do deserve a DVD set, but just can't seem to get them. I've grown accustomed to having Bob's weekly DVD release post arrive like a slap in the face as Beggars and Choosers is not on it, again. Instead, this is about those shows that do get their DVD set, but are late for no good reason at all. At least, not one that I can come up with.
I started thinking about it last week as I was talking with a friend and we were watching the Hellboy/Chuck promo. She commented that she really should start watching Chuck. In full agreement, I quickly pointed her to the Chuck page on Hulu. But wait, there are only three episodes available on Hulu. I guessed that it must be because they don't want streaming to cannibalize DVD sales. So I headed to Amazon. Chuck isn't out on DVD until September 16th. What the hell?

So, I'm minding my own business the other day, watching one of last season's
Burn Notice episodes in anticipation of the new season, when I see a commercial that made me laugh out loud. It was a
promotion for the new season of Psych. Gus and Shawn (Dule Hill and James Roday) in a familiar-looking black and white set, at a grand piano, sitting side by side singing "Ebony and Ivory." It was hilarious. So funny that I decided you had to see it. (below)
James Roday laying on a Paul McCartney accent. The giant keyboard with the title
Psych where Steinway should be. Dule Hill in the Stevie Wonder part, with impossibly wide collar flaps and a toothy grin.

TiVo is announcing a
new promotional bundle that will net you a TiVo HD, a TiVo WiFi adapter, and product lifetime service for $698, which is less than the original cost of a TiVo Series3 without any service at all.
Of course, if you expect to scrap your TiVo within a year or two, you can save a few bucks by picking up a $299 TiVo HD and signing up for an annual or monthly contract. But if you plan to keep your TiVO HD for 3 years or more, it's hard to beat this price. Oh, and TiVo will throw in a plush toy. So there's that to consider.
The offer is good through June 16th, but TiVo loves to extend offers like these. I mean, don't come hunting me down with burning torches if this offer really does expire, but I think it's a safe bet that once this promotion expires, TiVo will offer a different one.

TiVo is rolling out a new raft of rebates and promotional offers. Or rather, the company is extending some existing promotions while modifying a few others. Here's the rundown:
- The TiVo HD product lifetime offer which had been set to expire on January 7 has been extended through April 1.
- The $200 rebate on Series3 boxes and $150 rebate on dual-tuner Series2 units has been extended through April 5 (PDF link).
- The $170 rebate on single-tuner Series2 units has been dropped to $150, and is also available through April 5.
So if you're in the market for a new TiVo, you might want to think about picking one up before April. But if there's one thing I've learned about TiVo over the last few years it's that the company almost always has a promotion going on. If you miss these deals odds are a new rebate offer will be just around the corner.

So, back in May I told you about a limited number of Simpsons-style XBoxes being given away at promotional events in anticipation of the upcoming movie. If you weren't lucky enough to snag one of the yellow consoles with Homer's visage at one of these events, you can try bidding on one that recently popped up on eBay. Just bring a lot of cash, 'cause the bidding, as I type this sentence, is at $1,900.

Best Buy and TiVo are
running a promotion that lets you get an 80-hour Series2 TiVo for free after rebate, or a dual-tuner box for $50 after rebate. They'll even through in a free Wireless G adapter.
What's the catch? You've got to sign up for high speed internet service through Best Buy. And you've got to print
the coupon and take it into a store. This deal is not available through the TiVo or Best Buy websites.
No word on how long this promotion will last, but if you sign up before July 31st, you can get your first three months of TiVo service for free.

In order to promote his upcoming animated feature, Bee Movie, Jerry Seinfeld is creating twenty "minisodes" to be shown on both NBC and NBC.com.
Live-action spots for the film have already been made, but it's not clear if these "minisodes" will be more of the same or something completely different. I've placed one of the movie spots at the end of this post.

Excuse me if I salivate like Homer standing near a box of donuts, but this is awesome. I want myself a Simpsons Xbox so bad and I don't even play video games. Our pals over at Endgadget, who know more about such things, say that the new system, created as a promotion for the upcoming Simpsons movie, is an Xbox 360 Pro and not an Elite, which apparently means less GBs.
Don't bother trying to find it in stores, though, because only one hundred of these machines were created and they'll be given away at different promotional events as we get closer to the film's release on July 27.
I suppose if you want to you could always just draw a picture of Homer on your Xbox with a Sharpie. Heck, draw Homer on everything in your house and pretend you won some kind of sweepstakes.

Now here's a case of synergy I can get behind: According to the
Richmond Times-Dispatch, 7-Eleven is in talks with the producers of
The Simpsons Movie to convert eleven of the company's stores into Kwik-E-Marts in a promotional stunt. The converted stores would sell items that Apu Nahasapeemapetilon might sell in his fictional store, like Krusty-Os, Buzz Cola, and Squishies (lucky for the 7-11 folks that they have a very similar product, huh?). Also the images of
Simpsons characters would be placed on other 7-11 products on sale, like their deli sandwiches (with Homer going "mmmm... sandwiches," of course).
It's a pretty interesting idea, if they do it for a limited time, like maybe for two weeks before the movie's July 27 opening and maybe for a week afterwards. Any longer, and those temporary Kwik-E-Mart signs are just going to look kinda sad. And, hopefully, they won't sell the Krusty-Os with the free jagged metal O inside. That's just asking for trouble.

Oh, those wacky people in the ABC marketing department. First they decide to promote their hit
Ugly Betty by launching a
"Be Ugly '07" campaign. Now they've decided to promote their new comedy
The Knights of Prosperity by "recruiting" people to
join the Knights. This "recruitment" effort will be done via a viral campaign aimed at pre- and post-Christmas shoppers.
The press release from ABC (after the jump) pretty much explains the whole scheme, including wallet drops at shopping malls with Knights "membership cards" in them, "rock star receipts" given to random shoppers at Virgin Megastores and other places, and opportunities to grab cash in a Knights-sponsored money booth. This is all to promote the premiere of
Knights on January 3 at 9 PM.
Of course, they could just promote the show by saying it's the funniest new pilot this season. But I guess the truth doesn't always help... just ask the producers of
The Nine.

(S03E03) Michael Scott may act like a knucklehead most of the time, but say this for him--he will not go down without a fight.
You just knew that sooner or later Dwight would try to undermine Michael, and Angela's influencing of him to do something about the office finally pushed him to meet clandestinely with Jan. Despite Jan's dismay over Michael's "Movie Mondays" and other offbeat practices, she must have some feelings for him at some level, because she did warn Michael about Dwight instead of looking to replace him. Obviously, their "hookup" last season must have had some effect on her.

You know, I really don't like reality programming, but I'll consider a reality series that's only three-minutes long and features a house full of cats but no humans an agreeable compromise. Well, actually, it's not a "reality series" per se, it's more like a three-minute promotion for Meow Mix catfood on Animal Planet, but hey, let's not split (cat) hairs. The series, called
Meow Mix House, debuts on June 16 during the 9 p.m. EST hour and will focus on a house filled with cats from animal shelters in New York and Los Angeles. They'll take part in competitions, and those who are voted off will be placed in a permanent home and receive a year's supply of Meow Mix. The winner, however, wil be given an executive job at Meow Mix. So yeah, it's essentially a commercial for Meow Mix, but it also reveals the importance of pet adoption. The cats will be given personalities, as well, through voiceovers. It should be both cuddly and adorable. The series will run for ten weeks, though it may not always run in the same timeslot.

Wow, what some people will do for, you know, whatever. A family in Atlanta were apparently approached by E! to have their home painted pink and affixed with both a sign for The Simple Life and E! Entertainment's exclamation mark logo as a way to promote the new season of The Simple Life: 'Til Death Do Us Part. I guess during this season Nicole and Paris play pretend mommies or something? Despite my personal aversion to reality shows and especially this particular reality show, the house has been attracting a lot of attention. Perhaps too much, actually, as it seems people have a nasty habit of ringing the doorbell late at night. I assume those making the late night visits were just lonely men who figured Paris had gotten lazy and decided to use the house as a means of luring suitors to her. You know, like her version of the Bat symbol. It's an honest mistake.

The moving
graphic in the lower left corner of my television screen has officially gotten out of hand (I think
Adam would agree). Rather than just letters rolling in
and out to tell me what's up next, it has become quite distracting. I realize that's the point: to get me to notice the
crap in the corner, but I'd rather watch the show. Most recently, I was watching something on VH1, when a purple 'Z'
actually whooshed up and covered the entire screen and then faded away to tease whatever the hell it was teasing. I
don't even know what it was for, I just know it was too much! Also, on USA Network lately, Wynonna and Cowboy Troy keep
dancing around in the lower lefthand corner of my screen to tell me about the upcoming season of
Nashville
Star. Conveniently, they kept popping up when subtitles were on the screen. Arrrgh! And, guess what? The network
played promos for
Nashville Star in every break. So, give me a break.
I guess this is the networks'
way of getting around that pesky TiVo fast-forward that we're all so fond of.

If you've ever said, "they can't pay me enough to watch a soap
opera" you might be interested to know that Procter and Gamble, the company that actually invented the genre
in the early 1930s, is behind a promotion that will award viewers $500 for simply watching As The World Turns
and Guiding Light. Well, you have to register at Daytime
Dollars, and your special code has to match the code shown during the episode. But hey, even if you don't win, you
can still lose yourself in the twisted plotlines and engaging stories. Will Samantha leave Brock? Will Danny find out
about his baby brother, Stefan? Will Jerome and Barbara ever find their way out of the wicker pumpkin factory? Will I
continue to make up characters and storylines and pretend I actually watch these shows? Who the heck knows? The
promotion will run from March 13 to September 29.
