Is Grant Show ditching Swingtown for Private Practice?

Grant ShowFirst he shaves the porn 'stache and now Grant Show has signed up to guest star on Private Practice. Is there something Show isn't telling us about the fate of Swingtown?

Well, hopefully not. Despite the fact that Swingtown's rapidly disappearing audience does not bode well for the fate of the series, Show's extracurriculars don't mean that anything is definite. As of now, Show is only signed on to appear in one episode of Private Practice early on in the season. He plays a flirtatious doctor who has ties to a series regular's past.

I've recently become a big fan on Swingtown, so even though the odds are against it, I'm really pulling for its return. However, if it doesn't work out, I definitely wouldn't mind him coming to Private Practice on a more regular basis. For me, that show's first season was super weak and quite frankly, it could use all the help it can get. Grant Show wouldn't even have to grow the mustache back--although it would be pretty awesome if he did.

Things I learned from the press tour - TCA Report

Rob McElhenny and Glenn Howerton trying to pukeSo I've been back from LA for a couple of days, watching Rich and Keith file frantic reports from Comic-Con. It just makes me shake my head in sympathy. Though CC is a different animal from the TCAs, in both structure and in sheer volume of people and activities, I still know exactly how they feel. It all starts to feel like a blur after awhile -- panels, reporter scrums, parties, meeting your favorite (and not-so-favorite) TV stars... When you get back to "normal life," it almost feels like it never happened.

Anyway, now that I have a day or two to reflect, I took a cue from our friends at AOL and came up with a list of things I learned on this press tour. But this list will involve both the network-related things I learned with what I learned about celebrities, my fellow critics, and myself.

Ask Private Practice stars a question for Outside the Box

Private PracticeOutside the Box is an upcoming video interview series from AOL TV, where stars of your favorite shows sit down and answer questions from fans. This is your chance to (sort of) talk to celebrities!

We've already asked you to submit questions for the cast of Scrubs and the stars of Dirty Sexy Money, and next on deck are Kate Walsh, Tim Daly, Taye Diggs and Audra McDonald from Private Practice.

Practice has one of the sexiest casts on TV. Daly and Diggs and Paul Adelstein and Chris Lowell AND David Sutcliffe? Come on. That's not even fair. The show's first season was interrupted by the strike, but I'm hoping that the time off gave creator Shonda Rhimes space to refine the storylines, just like she did with Grey's Anatomy. When we left off, Addison had gotten her mojo back and asked police officer Kevin on a date. I'm hoping to see more of that (and "I don't get stood up. I'm Addison.") when season 2 starts.

If you've got a burning question for the four Practice stars, submit it in the comments below by Tuesday, July 15. Don't forget to include your first name and city/state. And try to come up with something other than "ur hot, will you marry me," OK?

What are the most recorded TV shows?

TiVo logoI was going to title this post "What are the most DVR'd TV shows?" but wasn't sure if DVR'd is a real word or not. And did I even spell it right?

Anyway, the list of the top 15 recorded shows for the past year has been released, and there are little or no surprises on it. Grey's Anatomy tops this list with 3.78 million viewers, while the Tuesday edition of American Idol comes in a close second with 3.73 million. Full list after the jump!

ABC has lots of new episodes scheduled; Lost moves to 10 PM

samanthaIt's so nice now that the WGA strike is over and all the shows are coming back, isn't it? It's like we're suddenly inundated with presents galore. Just the idea of new shows puts a smile on my face; let's hope it's still there once the shows air!

ABC has announced that Samantha Who?, their most promising new sitcom of the season, will be returning with six new episodes on Monday, April 7 (at 9:30). But maybe the network's biggest news is a time shift. Starting April 24, Lost will commence five new episodes at 10:00, rather than 9:00. Also on April 24, Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy both return with five new episodes each.

The Best and Worst of 2007: Joel's list

Viva LaughlinTo call 2007 a stellar year of TV would be a mistake, because it was a very bleh year in many respects. Shows that had previously riveted us to our seats made missteps and mistakes. New shows were either mediocre or just unmemorable. A writers' strike made people anxious and depressed all at once. And the aspects of the TV world that have generated low expectations continued on their merry lowbrow way (I mean, who expected Tila Tequila's search for love to be anything but a skankfest)?

But in a year of abject mediocrity, some highlights and lowlights poked through. Like last year, I'm going to make up categories instead of doing traditional "Bests" and "Worsts." It hurts my brain less...

Best spoilers of 2007

Spoilers Anonymous
Every week, TV Squad offers you a crop of the latest TV spoilers via the Spoilers Anonymous feature. Even if a lot of shows and fans dislike spoilers, no one can argue when I say that spoilers have a definitive impact on the TV world. When a bombshell such as the Lost fast forward gets leaked, a buzz is generated: people talk about the show and the validity of the spoiler at the watercooler, on boards or in blogs. Spoilers give you a glimpse of what's to come, allow you to come up with your own theories, get you excited about an upcoming episode or turn of events, etc. Here is a list of the best and/or most talked about spoilers released in 2007 via Spoilers Anonymous or special spoilers articles here at TV Squad.

Nielsen ratings for the week ending December 9

CSIHere are the weekly ratings, by number of viewers.

Funny how the ratings race becomes a little bit more interesting when Dancing with the Stars vanishes from the schedule. Though I guess it's always possible that ABC will give Marie Osmond her own weekly variety show again, and she can dance and sing and faint and cry and sell her dolls and find her way back into the top 10 again. NBC makes a strong showing, with five shows in the top 20 (though I guess two of them are really one show, Sunday Night Football and the Pre-Kick). Also good to see Rudolph at #4. They must think he's cuuuuuuuuuute.

Why aren't networks streaming more episodes?

JourneymanConsidering the dearth of new scripted programs, I can't help but wonder why the networks aren't streaming more episodes of their shows online. Why just the last three to five episodes? With a prolonged break between new episodes inevitable, wouldn't it make sense to have more of the existing episodes available online. Especially for shows like Journeyman and Bionic Woman, who haven't exactly lit up the ratings but haven't officially been canceled yet.

But NBC.com has up the last four to five episodes of each. And considering the linear nature of some aspects of the show, especially Journeyman, why not give bored TV fans the opportunity to watch the entire series online? You've already proven you're going to fill up the airwaves with reality dreck.

ABC pulls Big Shots

Big ShotsBig Shots, the show I haven't heard one person talk about this new season, has been pulled from the lineup by ABC effective immediately.

The show starred Dylan McDermott, Michael Vartan, and Joshua Malina (who is on Last Call with Carson Daly tonight, probably to plug the show - awkward!) and aired Thursdays at 10pm, right after Grey's Anatomy. I guess not too many people were sticking around after that highly-watched show. There are three episodes left and ABC is taking the show off the air. No word on whether the show will return at a later date or if the episodes will show up online at some point.
