I almost chose the above pic for this week's "What the heck is this?," but realized it would be too obscure for readers to get. What is it? It's a bloody pair of chewed up shorts, and it's part of the press kit for Discovery Channel's "Shark Week." James Hibberd over at
The Hollywood Reporter gives a rundown on what the kit looks like up close. It includes Hibberd's obituary.
I once got a "Shark Week" T-shirt from the network but nothing like this.

Former
West Wing and
Six Feet Under producer Rick Cleveland is on board to translate Christopher Buckley's best-selling book and recent film
Thank You for Smoking into a single-camera television series for NBC.
The television show will pick up where the film left off - with spin doctor Nick Naylor opening his own firm. It's a great idea for a series in that Naylor can have a never-ending array of clients. Nick will, of course, always be on the politically incorrect side of whatever big business or political issue is thrown his way. The producers have discussed Naylor repping fast food companies, environmental polluters and politicos in Mark Foley-esque situations.

(S03E08) There was a bit of a mix-up last week, so I'm sorry that you all couldn't come here to vent your frustrations about the previous episode. Boy, oh boy, never has an episode called for so much venting. Vincent thew a basic black dress in with massive beige lapels... and
won. The lapels were straight out of the 80s and clown-ish. If the lapels weren't so floppy, I would have liked it a little more. I think he only won because just about everyone else failed to flatter their plus-sized models. So, Robert was booted for being boring again, Vincent won, and Satan roared with laughter as he landed his triple axel jump.

(S03E05) This episode switched things up a bit. Instead of the other way around, the models chose the designers they wanted. Of course, some of the designers were uncomfortable with the feeling of not being in control in this situation. Their anxiety was made even worse when the designers were challenged to re-create a look for a fashion icon... a fashion icon that they'd have no say in choosing. Their models picked from a selection of icons, ranging from Madonna to Katharine Hepburn to Twiggy. Some designers were ecstatic with their assignments, others were totally clueless (cough cough, his name starts with a "B" and ends with "Radley").

On the first season of
Project Runway, just one
episode was enough to convince me that Daniel Franco was a little loopy. A little too much craziness and dancing but
not enough talent to back it up. When he returned for another season, he definitely toned it down a little (good for
you, Daniel!) but the folks at
Project Runway still managed to portray him as the token weirdo. For example,
when the designers had to show Heidi their sketches and ideas for the lingerie competition, Daniel whispered to her,
"I want to show you something beautiful" and gave her this really weird smile. Whoa, buddy. Awkward. Well,
giving him the "auf wiedersehen" didn't end the creepiness because on the latest episode (the reunion one),
he said, seemingly out of nowhere, "I love you, Heidi".
