Arrested Development: The One Where Michael Leaves (season two premiere) - VIDEO

Tobias Do not adjust your web browser. You are now entering the Retro Squad, where we are reviewing past episodes of classic TV shows.

(S02E01) Here's the rundown. Michael and his son leave for Phoenix. Well, not really. Michael needs money so he ends up going back to his old life at the model home in order to track down the company check book.

While Michael tries to do something productive, the rest of the siblings are into the usual mischief. When she and Tobias decide to explore an open relationship, Lindsay falls for a real estate agent. Tobias readies himself to join the Blue Man Group, excited at this new acting opportunity. GOB, who has been put in charge of the company, finds the contracts with Saddam Hussein but inadvertently gives them to his father who is dressed up like Oscar, George Sr.'s twin brother. Buster reconnects with Uncle Oscar but gets enlisted in the army by Lucille.

And at the end of the day, the Bluths realize they all need each other. If they didn't, it wouldn't be Arrested Development.

Ellen is going to play nice at the Oscars

Ellen DeGeneresWhat, you thought she was going to be angry like Chris Rock? Let's just say nothing in this New York Times article, where Ellen DeGeneres talks about what she plans on doing during her Oscar hosting stint next year, surprised me at all. "I know what the job is," she tells writer Jacques Steinberg. "It's to honor movies and to honor people who worked hard. Those people take it seriously. I'm there to make them feel good and take their minds off it a little bit and make it a fun night." In other words, she won't be wondering why Jude Law has a career, like Rock did, or raising the ire of George Clooney, like Jon Stewart did this year (of course, Clooney was overreacting, but still...). Either way, given how well she's done at the Emmys, she should do fine here, even if she's not edgy.

The article goes on to talk about her talk show Ellen and contrasts her with fellow daytime talk show personality Rosie O'Donnell. It also discusses why Ellen doesn't mention her girlfriend, Arrested Development's Portia de Rossi, all that much during her show. To Ellen, it's not a big deal. Contrast that to when she came out almost ten years ago, and that observation shows how far things have come on TV.

Arrested Development creator in talks for a movie

arrested developmentThere's a small glimmer of hope that we'll all see the Bluths again, and not just in reruns on DVDs. In an interview with TVGuide, actress Alia Shawkat ("Maeby") confirmed that there is talk of doing an Arrested Development movie. She didn't say a lot--probably because the interview was actually about her role in an upcoming Lifetime movie--but she did say that creator Mitch Hurwitz is in talks with Ron Howard about moving to the big screen. That was all hinted at in the series finale when Shawkat's character tried to sell the rights to the Bluth's story to Howard.

Would you like to see an Arrested Development movie... or is it just plain over?
