Think about this for a moment: who is the person on television that viewers trust the most to get their news from? Someone from the cable news channels? One of the network news anchors?
Time conducted a survey across the country, asking people who the most trusted newscaster is now that Walter Cronkite is gone. Not really sure why Cronkite matters in this context because he hadn't been a newsman in quite some time, but it's interesting to see all of the statistics by state. You probably won't agree with who came in first with 44%.

I'm not sure if people were given just a select group of celebrities to choose from or they were allowed to choose anyone they wanted, but a new
poll conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs says that more Americans would like to share a rental home with Kelly Ripa this summer than any other celebrity. After Ripa came the Obamas, then Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Oprah, Jon Stewart, and Stephen Colbert.
That would be a great reality show though:
Vacation Home. With those above guests? I'd watch that.

This story both amuses me and baffles me.
A
poll of under-10 British children reveals that the kids think that
American Idol/
X Factor host Simon Cowell is more famous than God, the guy who created the universe. The poll was taken in one town, Luton; Cowell also beat out Queen Elizabeth.
But does this really mean that little British kids think that Cowell is better than God? How exactly did they ask the question? Maybe Cowell is more "famous" than God, because, well, he's on television all the time and these kids probably think they know him better. I think that people are going to be disturbed and shocked by these results when they really don't have to be. I mean, these kids have to know who God and The Queen are to even put them in the top 5, right?
Maybe they showed the kids two pictures, one of God and one of Cowell.

I usually hate reruns. Hate 'em. You've built some momentum watching a show, especially when the season starts, then suddenly you're faced with an episode from last year that you already saw. That can be especially incongruous when you're a fan of a show like
How I Met Your Mother, which ended
last week's episode with a number of monumental character developments.
However, reruns allow you to explore shows that you've wanted to watch but never get a chance to, even in this day and age of DVRs and online viewing. Take
Chuck, for instance. I DVR
HIMYM just in case I miss something when I watched it live and want to include it in my review. So I don't even record
Chuck, a show I enjoyed last year and I've heard has gotten even better in its second season.

Over the last few days I have been seeing a
whole mess of reports about Apple's proposed slashing of television episode prices to the familiar 99 cents. It all comes in the wake of NBC's reported plan to jack those same prices up to $4.99. That's a pretty good sized gap when you start talking about 20-plus episode seasons. So, I'm wondering, if you aren't buying digital TV episodes yet, what's the number that gets you on board? And if you are already on that bus, at what price point do you ring the bell and tell Kramer this is your stop?
For me, the 99 cent price would probably get me on board for a couple of my favorite shows. At $1.99, the math just works out too close to DVD prices, and then one of the voices in my head starts prattling on about higher quality, and extras, and how we can just use handbrake if we really need to have Psych on our phone. We've heard what NBC wants, and what Apple wants, but hit the poll after the jump so we can find out what the viewers want.

Some of you may not know this already, but the latest issue of the
Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 8 comic hit stores last week, when originally it was slated to come out, I believe, this week. As I was picking up my copy, I got to wondering if the TV Squad readers even cared to have me continue to review them, especially with the news that
there will be a season 9 comic.
So, once again I'm going to take advantage of the use of polls and leave it up to you. While I'm definitely going to keep buying and reading these books, do you want me to continue to review them here for you? I'll check the results of the poll (after the jump) later this week and decide.

As some of you may have noticed, some of the categories to the left have changed. There's a new one there: Dramedy Shows. We put this in place because there really are shows that don't fit in just the drama or comedy categories alone. There are some shows, however, where we are in a bit of a dispute over classifying them as dramedies.
In particular,
House is a show that has definite, purposefully comedic elements, yet the drama portions of the show are quite heavy-handed and serious. But are Hugh Laurie's House antics enough to slide the category meter over to make this show a dramedy?

AOL recently conducted a poll of readers to find out what they thought was the best and worst of television last season. More than 3 million votes were counted! They had to answer 20 questions about their favorite dramas, comedies, reality shows, and Sanjaya hairstyles. I don't necessarily agree with all the results, but that's okay. It's still interesting to see what got people excited last season.
Here are just a few of the results, to see the full list,

There's been a ton of discussion about how HBO's
The Sopranos will end, and there are definitely some prevailing theories or suspicions out there. We thought we'd find out what you, the TV Squad readers, would like to see happen as
The Sopranos comes to a close, and have put together this nifty poll to ask just that. Of course, if what you think is going to happen isn't in the poll itself, then just choose the "Other" option and drop your thoughts in the comments section.
Theories about the finale's title, "Made in America," are also welcome, as they could tie into "being made" or something the terrorists could be doing, for instance.

(S03E18) I love that although they've done away with the larger mysteries, it's nice that the writers put a little shout out here and there to us longtime fans. Sure they're not mystery related, but at least it's not all boy-girl relationship related.
Speaking of which, I thought I was OK with the whole Pizonica thing until the opening scene of this episode, with the two of them playing, what, armsies? Elbow-sies? It was just ... not right.

Maybe it's because he takes his style queues from Michael Jackson, but
Sanjaya Malakar -- if AOL online voters have it right -- will bid
American Idol adieu tonight. He and 22-year-old
AJ Tabaldo are the bottom two guys in the
Top 24 Ranking Poll, where users choose their favorite contestants.
As for the girls, it's a three-way tie. The doomed, according to AOL users, include professional dog walker Leslie Hunt, 24-year-old Alaina Alexander and Internet pin-up girl Antonella Barba.

Broadcasting & Cable magazine
polled 66 critics and asked them what new fall shows were their favorites. The responses were at once predictable and odd:
Studio 60 was deemed the best new overall show, but for some reason, it only came in second amongst dramas, behind
The Nine.
Ugly Betty, the third most-favored show overall, was deemed the best new comedy of the fall, followed by
30 Rock.
But, as far as I'm concerned, the survey is incomplete. Why? Because they didn't ask
us for
our picks, that's why! I mean, come on,
B&C! We certainly have an opinion to give, and we certainly have as many readers as what I'm sure was some of the websites and publications you surveyed, so how 'bout giving us a call? Man, I feel like we've been stood up for the prom.
Seriously, though, if you want to see our opinions of the new fall shows, we've got them, all over the site. Just search by show name or network, and you'll find them. Maybe we'll get the call from
B&C next year.

It's time to fire up the TV Squad polls again and see what our fine readers are thinking. We know not all of you are keen on leaving us comments, so why not let you easily submit to a poll?
This time we're focusing on
the new shows FOX has up their sleeves for this fall. Got any you're looking forward to in particular? Rather than have you choose your favorite of the bunch, we'll let you pick as many as you like. We'll update this post with the poll results in about a week, so check back then.

A poll recently commissioned by the Oxygen Network --a channel continuously beaten out by the Hydrogen Network on the Periodic Table of Ratings -- revealed that women these days would much rather have a plasma screen television than a diamond necklace. The poll was meant to show how women are actually becoming more interested in tech gadgets these days. It also revealed that most women would rather have a new digital camera than a new pair of shoes. Apparently they didn't poll homeless women; I'm sure the results would have been different. Anyway, gentlemen, now you know what to get your lady for that next special occasion: a diamond-encrusted plasma television that dispenses shoes with a camera inside of them. That way you've covered all your bases.

After
this season's nominations, we all know that the Emmys are a load of crap. Now the television critics over at
TV Week think they know what are the best shows on television. In a semi-annual poll, critics voted
Lost and
The Sopranos as their favorite shows.
Grey's Anatomy ranks No. 3. They also voted
Unan1mous and
The War at Home as the worst shows on television.
Battlestar Galactica moved up to No. 11 and
Desperate Housewives fittingly dropped from No. 2 to No. 23.
While I won't disagree on their picks for the worst programs, I do disagree on their choices for best television. This season's
Lost wasn't so hot and
The Sopranos seems tired. My hands-down favorite television program right now is
The Office (tied for 19th among the critics). This season, I came to adore the characters. Everytime I hear the music for the opening credits, I can't help but bounce on the couch and clap my hands like a two-year-old.
What do you think is THE BEST show on television? Choose only one.
