The cast of the FX sitcom
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia gathered a stone's throw from Beverly Hills this week to celebrate the release of the show's new Christmas special.
A Very Sunny Christmas arrives on Blu-ray and DVD November 17 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Fox teamed with Maxim Magazine to hold a festive bash last Thursday night at Guys and Dolls Lounge in the shadow of Cedar Sinai Hospital on Beverly Blvd. (Event gallery below.)
A modest red carpet set-up gathered a cramped collection of reporters and photographers together to greet the arrivals of show stars Danny DeVito, Kaitlin Olson, Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day.
As if looking to mimic the bleak Philadelphia winter, rain sprinkled the LA streets in the hours leading up to the event -- and temperatures hovering in the low 50s made it a goose bumpy night for the several cocktail dress-clad ladies mingling in the crowd.

Most "don't drink and drive" ads show the driver getting into his car sloshed (or "buzzed") and then ending up in some horrible accident that either kills himself or a passenger. This commercial from Australia shows the driver realizing that he's too buzzed, but it doesn't matter. I want to see a sequel to this ad. In under a minute this ad makes me want to know more about this couple and the people at that party. (Warning: ad is depressing.)

We're really down to the nitty-gritty on
The Next Food Network Star. After tonight's elimination, we're down to four contestants, and just think: one of them is going to have their own show on Food Network.
None of these people strike me as having the presence of a Guy Fieri, but he was raw once too so maybe one of these people will really shine in the next few weeks and the coming months.

(S01E09) Okay, we're really into swinging tonight. Everybody seems to get into the action, including the kids. Frankly, the summer of '76 is making everyone in
Swingtown hot and horny and just a touch too adventurous. It makes for interesting viewing, but I'm not sure how realistic all this is supposed to be. What
is the difference between swinging and cheating?
Brad and Sylvia are back. It's yet another dinner party at the Deckers! The writers really have to find other ways to get these people together. Anyway, after Bruce's admission of his overt flirtation with Melinda -- a couple of kisses and a trip to her apartment -- the Millers accept an invitation to the Pendulum Club. That's an erotic cabaret according to Trina, and yes, the Deckers decide to go along at Susan's behest.

Hopefully, the hip-hop mogul will get one on VH1's
I Want To Work for Diddy premiering this summer. Apparently, Diddy's staff is not doing their jobs. He was almost
snubbed from his own party this weekend. He hosted a bash at Lily Pond in the Hamptons and almost didn't get in because the club was at capacity with over 1,000 people ready to get drunk and crunk with the rapper.
The artist-formerly-known-as-Puffy was denied his grand entrance (a three car procession of Cadillac Escalades). The fleet was forced to turn around and the
Making the Band host had to go in the back door. Once he got in the club, the DJ turned off the music for fifteen minutes while the V.I.P. room was readied for his highness. That will show everyone a good time. Don't do the grand entrance. Just turn off the music and make everyone wait so you can get settled.
See, if he only had a good assistant... Hopefully, he'll find what he's looking for on his new
VH1 show.
I Want to Work for Diddy comes out in August.

(S04E09) It feels really good to be back, doesn't it? My calculations might be a bit off, but it seems to me the amount of time we had off for the writer's strike was about the same as what we usually have off for a summer break. For some reason, though, it felt longer. Something about the cold winter months makes me long for the sweet siren song of Scranton, I suppose.
I wasn't there when we won WWII, but I imagine the joy I felt when a new
Office showed up in my TiVo was similar to what it felt like on V.E. day. I almost wanted to dress up in a sailor uniform and give Steve Carell a long, deep kiss in Times Square (though, to be fair, I almost always feel that way). I was happy
The Office was back, the only thing I worried about was whether it'd still be
good...

We like to complain when networks don't give series a fair chance, so it's nice to see NBC getting behind the new season of Friday Night Lights with such enthusiasm. Teaming with HouseParty.com, the network is sending out party kits to 1,000 Friday Night Lights fans, including an advance copy of the season opener. The season officially begins on October 5 at 9:00 p.m. You can apply for a chance to host one of these parties on September 14 on the House Party site. The party kits will include various trinkets and ephemera, as well as episodes from season one and a sneak peek of the new Bionic Woman series.

(S02E17) Remember when I said I couldn't review this show anymore? Well, I have the CW again, so it's all good. Hopefully it won't be removed from my cable again.
My love for this show may have just increased ten fold. This episode was not only well-written and well-acted as usual, but it actually contained a reference to Night of the Lepus, probably the best movie ever made about gigantic killer bunnies. I'm not sure I believe Chris' real father actually had an irrational fear of rabbits, but it provided a nice B story about how willing Julius is to be there for his kids, even if it means passing out at a magic show.

Two guys fighting over the last Bud Light at a cookout. They decide to play Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who gets it. Guy on the left throws paper, guy on the right throws a rock. He really throws a rock, and knocks the other guy out and takes the last Bud Light. One of the other partygoers calls the police and the guy is arrested for assault.
OK, that last part I made up. Funny commercial I guess, though I really don't know if Bud Light is worth getting violent over. Sam Adams? Definitely.

OK, here we go again with a SPOILER WARNING. Do not, do not, do not read on or scroll down if you don't want to find out what happens on tonight's episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation.
I remember watching the original Degrassi, back in the 50s or whenever it was originally broadcast (I feel old). I was never a regular viewer, but I remember thinking that the show was better than most teen shows, better written, with a realistic cast. And then tackled some serious topics: sex, drugs, violence, relationships. But I don't think they ever had anything like what happens on tonight's show.

Imagine this scene: an early-evening party in a hotel lounge area. Half the people there are reporters; the other half are actors and producers from NBC shows. To give you an idea: Ali Larter and Hayden Panettiere of
Heroes were there; Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, and Melora Hardin of
The Office were milling about; Meredith Vieira was bonding with reporters; and Shane West, Linda Cardellini and Parminder Nagra of
ER were talking into tape recorders (Parminder's nickname is "Mindy", by the way). There were others there, but those are the ones I remember.
Then there was Ed Helms. He was also at the party to represent
The Office; but, unlike some of the other cast members, he wasn't exactly a veteran of press events like this. So he sticks by the bar, chatting it up with a friend (heck, I'd do the same thing if I were in his place). He happily but guardedly starts speaking to a small group of reporters (including me) who wanted to find out what it's like to be the guy who made Dwight Schrute likable. Then, all of a sudden, one of the women listening in starts to slowly slink to the floor.

Folks, I never got into this job to be a red carpet/party reporter. I'm not good in noisy crowds of people I don't know, and I'm especially not good at fighting other people to be heard in a group. But when I found myself on the press side of the red carpet for the premiere of NBC's
Kidnapped last night, I tried to do my best.
The red carpet consists of whatever stars are coming to the premiere slowly walking down a procession of press people: first they pose for photographers, then they talk to television and other video outlets, then they answer questions from lowly print outlets like us. I decided to hang out at the end of the line and catch what I could, since I'd also be going to the screening and the afterparty (which also doubled as the NYTVF launch party). And since I was on the
Kidnapped set a few weeks ago (that post is in the works), there wasn't much more to ask the principals that I hadn't already. But it was still an interesting evening. After the jump, a few pictures of my night.

Surprise! You've been bumped from the schedule. UPN has
pulled
Get This Party Started from its schedule for the rest of February sweeps. The reality show, hosted by
ex-
Laguna Beach star Kristin Cavallari and some other guy, has had dismal ratings since it premiered two weeks
ago. This week's episode about a surprise graduation party scored a 0.4 rating among adults 18-24. Ouch.
The
premise of the show is that Kristin and her television-friendly co-host help friends and/or family plan and execute a
surprise party for a very deserving person. It must be as boring as it sounds.

Well, MTV's new season of
My Super Sweet 16 has just kicked off with yet another obnoxiously spoiled teenager. Okay, we get it: these kids live a more luxurious life than the average American. But does that really entitle them to behave like airheaded, bitchy morons? It's no wonder that society now acts like there's no moral fiber, virtue,
anything left in today's youth... After all, popular culture is plagued with pre-teen idiots. Just about every episode features some brat screeching at his or her (usually her) parents and results in me snarling at the TV, "If you say 'whatever' one more time..." followed by some angry flailing.
Is this horrible behavior simply in the name of "love to hate" entertainment or is it a real negative influence on today's youth (I know pre-teens that worship and live by this show)? All of these kids make me sick... especially after I remind myself they're barely younger than me and are already so corrupted. And yet... I can't flip the channel. I've got to admit, all complaining aside, idiocy makes some good TV. Damn guilty pleasure television. Honestly, at this point, I'm not sure if I'm recommending or bashing this show nor am I sure if I love it or hate it. I suppose it's something you have to see for yourself so you can happily complain about it later.
