I wouldn't say that we here at TV Squad have been purposefully silent about this
Erin Andrews peephole mishegas; there's just been more interesting stuff going on. It seemed like a small, albeit creepy, story on the surface: popular sideline reporter and object of the blogosphere's affection gets shot naked in her hotel room through a peephole.
Without a doubt, it's a depressing story, both for Andrews, whose privacy was violated on many levels, and for the sports blogosphere, who have to endure yet another accusation that their frat boy shenanigans helped foster this kind of behavior. But it was still a small story. That was, of course, until
The New York Post decided to make the oh-so-classy move of publishing stills of the video in print and
on their website.
Now it's getting serious:
ESPN has banned all Post reporters from appearing on any of their shows.

Today's New York Post has a gossip item that says King World execs are unhappy with the ratings for Rachael Ray's syndicated cooking/talk show and are not going to renew her contract when it's up in 2010.
Only one problem: the report isn't true and is full of inaccuracies (I know, Page Six inaccurate - shocking!).
The Huffington Post ran a story about it today as well and they were quickly contacted by a rep at King World that says not only is Rachael Ray's show safe, the ratings are actually up from last year, not down.

Love will always find a way.
Page Six is reporting that Hugh Hefner may be marrying girlfriend number one and star of
The Girls Next Door Holly Madison. While no official announcement has been made, word is that Hef is orchestrating the wedding to capitalize on the popularity of the reality show, and of course, he loves her.
If the show is any indication, Holly is the most devoted of Hef's girlfriends. She's waged a long and hard campaign to score that ring on her finger. I don't watch this show religiously, but it is among my guilty pleasures. I've always felt bad for Holly. She clearly loves the old guy, but she has to watch him scamper about with someone like Kendra, who spends her free time having
custom grillz made for her teeth. I suspect that Kendra, who Holly reportedly hates, will get the boot once Hef goes exclusive, but God only knows what "monogamy" means when you're an octogenarian playboy in the post-Viagra age.

Michael Jackson needs a career comeback in a big way. According to
Page Six,
Idol creator Simon Fuller may be just the man who can make that happen. Or at least Wacko Jacko hopes so.
Jackson reportedly has met several times with Fuller in Las Vegas to discuss his comeback strategy. Robin Leach called it a "perfect match" with "the world's biggest pop star being looked after by the most successful mogul manager in the world."

This is one of those "insider" news stories that most people won't care about one way or the other.
The New York Post's Page Six is reporting that former MSNBC head Rick Kaplan might be heading over to The CBS Evening News to help Katie Couric and her ratings. Of course, this story just says "rumored." It doesn't even have enough information to say "sources say" or "insiders say" or even "an anonymous person inside CBS." So who knows where they got the news.
Will this even help? Some people believe that the nightly network newscasts are a dinosaur, a thing of the past (I'm not one of them). Even if that's not true, maybe the CBS Evening News will just be in third place forever. That's where the show has been for a while and always will be, behind The NBC Nightly News and ABC World News.

Page Six in the
New York Post is reporting that Diane Sawyer will take over for Charlie Gibson as anchor of ABC's
World News after the 2008 presidential election, at least according to industry insiders. Gibson took the job in June knowing that he'd step down after that election, but his replacement wasn't named. The choice of Sawyer is curious, since she's only about two-and-a-half years younger than Gibson (but
looks a whole heck of a lot better). You'd think ABC would go younger with the next anchor.
Anyway, the article goes on to speculate what Sawyer will do in the meantime. One theory is that she'll take over hosting duties for
Nightline, with Kate Snow, Daryn Kagan, or Campbell Brown taking over for her on
Good Morning America. But, remember the source, folks: Page Six's batting average on things like this is around utility-infielder level, so take this whole thing with a lump of salt.

Last week, I
mentioned an
Access Hollywood report where Katie Couric mentioned that she probably would not go into the Israeli war zone for CBS, citing her kids as the main reason. But, apparently,
Access didn't quite get things right. As the
NY Post's Page Six
reports, the program's web site took Katie's quotes out of context, from a May interview about the Iraqi bombing incident that injured CBS' Kimberly Dozier and killed two of her colleagues. When speaking to critics at the TCA press tour, Katie addressed the question of being sent into a war zone by saying it would depend on the situation. "But clearly, if it's going to serve the story, advance the story, and be helpful to the story, I would like to be there."
Access makes the
correction and clarification at the top of the story on its web site.

Look, we know that the
NY
Post's Page Six has been having some
credibility problems
lately, but when they publish a juicy TV-related item, it's really hard for us at TVS to ignore them. So, we present
Richard Johnson and company's speculation and gossip as-is (OK, sometimes we add
some semi-snarky editorial
commentary) and let the readers decide.
So here's today's
interesting item: NBC is supposedly offering the
now-retired Mike Wallace
the opportunity to do "a bit of everything" at the network. Even though Wallace's rep denies the report, the
Page Sixers speculate that it'll take a lot to get the 88 year-old to move, since he's very loyal to his longtime
employers. Take the rumor for what it's worth, and discuss...

OK, I'm risking a comment assault on my inbox by posting
this, but what the hell, I feel like taking some (calculated) risks today:
According to everyone's favorite column,
Page Six in the
New York Post, Bo Bice got into a drunken scrape with a fan the other night at a midtown
Manhattan pub. But this wasn't just any fan, it was Glenn Parker, who at one time was an NFL offensive lineman (he
played on my favorite team, the New York Giants, the last time they went to the Super Bowl).
The article
states that Parker approached the
Idol reject, asking him if he was indeed Bo Bice. Bice denied it; when
Parker came back to Bo to apologize for bothering him, Bo started flailing his arms, grazing Parker under the chin with
one swing. Instead of crushing him like a bug, Parker called for a bartender, who helped him throw the long-haired
crooner out of the bar.
Parker needs to be commended for his restraint; at 6'5" and 300 pounds, he
could have really gone to town on Bice. As for Bo... well... he should be grateful his face is still intact. The next
time he grows beer muscles, he may not be so lucky.

According
to Page Six in the
New York Post, Paula Abdul may
have made up her
claim that
she was assaulted outside an LA club a couple of weeks ago. Why would she do such a silly thing? Well, two witnesses
told the gossip column that Adbul was thrown out of the party at Xenii because she looked "drunk" and
"out of it." Others said she was "falling-down drunk." The assault story was made up, allegedly, to
cover up her embarrassment at being thrown out.
Wow. If this is true, then Paula really needs to get help,
and fast. It's one thing to act like a kook on
AI, it's another to accuse someone of a felony just to cover up
some personal embarrassment. Although it would have been funny to be at that party and see her be more "out of
it" than she usually is.

The
NY Post's Page Six is
reporting that
that symbol guy Prince will actually sing on
American Idol this season! Of course, this comes from "an inside source," so who knows if it's true or not.
The same source says that Prince "hates the show and has never even watched it." Um, how can he hate it if he doesn't even watch it? Not that he wouldn't hate it if he watched it. I'm sure he would.

Rumors are rampant that
Arrested
Development has been picked up by Showtime for a 26-episode order. Page Six in the
New York Post floated that story this morning, in fact (which was
replayed on Salon.com).
However, that's all they
are right now: rumors. Fellow Squadder Ryan j Budke found out from his source at Showtime, who is close to the
negotiations, that they are still in talks about the show and nothing is official yet. There may be an official
announcement later in the week, but that's about the only information we've been given.
Don't worry: if word
comes out that
AD has been officially picked up, we'll have it for you.

Apparently,
Dancing with the Stars does not
have a sense of humor. Drew Lachey, a surprisingly good dancer on the reality competition, was reportedly pressured by
Dancing producers to cancel his guest appearance on MAD TV.
Page Six claims it received an e-mail
stating that the producers of the show "weren't thrilled with anyone on their shows participating in a parody of
any sort." So, Drew cancelled his gig at the last minute. Hopefully MAD TV will make fun of
Dancing
anyway.

Or, was, at any rate.
Page Six
(cribbing from the ever-reliable
National Inquirer) is reporting today that the uber-hyper TV cook, now host
of the Food Network's
30 Minute Meals as well as a frequent guest on
Oprah, dropped out of Pace
University after after blowing through her tuition money, and, with creditors on her tail, fled New York for the
Adirondacks.
"She spent the money and then she didn’t want her mom to find out, so she
borrowed money to pay her tuition, and then she couldn’t pay it back," a source told the scandal sheet.
"She was bouncing checks, and some people were threatening her.” Ray's official bio says nothing
about her days at Pace – only that she worked in several NY gourmet stores before
deciding that
"though this New York City fast track was exciting, Rachel ... wanted to return to the lifestyle of the
Adirondacks.” Her rep insists that she left New York after being mugged by the same man twice, a story which
Ray's father, Jim, confirmed to the Inquirer. " She thought she’d be raped
or murdered the last time," Jim said. "Fortunately a dog barked and he ran off.”Posted Dec 22nd 2005 2:54PM by Karina Longworth

From the Totally Unsubstantiated Rumor file:
Page Six is
"reporting" this morning that a cashed-strapped Courtney Love - slimmed down and drug free but apparently
broke as all get out – is working on selling the rights to her late husband Kurt Cobain's musical output. This
comes after a messy, multi-year battle between Love and Cobain's former band mates Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic (as
well as original drummer Chad Channing, at least according to the Sixers) over the future of the Nirvana catalogue: if
I remember correctly, the boys wanted to put everything in the hands of the fans, whilst Love wanted to slowly parcel
out the outakes and rarities to ensure the maximum padding for Frances Bean's college fund. Page Six says Love is
looking for $100 million.
