Melrose Place: Cahuenga - open thread

LocklearWell, last night was the BIG night on the new Melrose Place, the return of Amanda Woodward (Heather Locklear). Judging from Locklear's entrance, she really did shake up things on the show.

A question for fans of the original: did this make you watch this episode even though you weren't watching the new show? And for fans of the new show who really aren't familiar with the original: are you excited by Locklear being on the show?

The 2009 World Series of Poker: season finale - open thread

WSOPWe don't usually have open threads about sporting events here at TV Squad, but last night was the big finale of the 2009 World Series of Poker on ESPN, and I wanted to post this for two reasons. One, to find out what you thought of the exciting battle between logger Darvin Moon and 21 year-old Joe Cada, and two to find out how many people are actually still interested in watching poker on television.

Poker was massive on TV a few years ago, but is it still?

The Next Iron Chef: Umami (Deliciousness) - open thread

The Next Iron ChefThe only things I know about umami comes from those Kikkoman commecials, the ones that talk about umami being the fifth taste (after sweet, salty, sour, and bitter). Last night's Next Iron Chef was all about that, and they even had Iron Chef Morimoto as a judge.

What did you think? The show is down to its final three contestants. Can you picture one of them standing next to other Iron Chefs like Morimoto, Flay, Cora, Batali, and Symon in Kitchen Stadium?

Greek: Friend or Foe? (season finale) - open thread

Greek
Last night was the season finale of Greek, the somewhat-overlooked ABC Family show with the small but rabid fan base. If you have no idea what's going on in the picture above, the ZBZs competed in Songfest. There was also a battle of the bots between Rusty and Dale, which means it sounds like this show appeals to people who like both Glee and G4.

What did you think of the season finale?

Sherri: Stronger - open thread

Sherri
Last night I watched three episodes of Sherri. I didn't plan on doing it, and I'm still not quite sure how it happened, but I watched three episodes (two repeats and one new episode). It's not bad. I mean, it's incredibly sitcommy, but it's entertaining, and Sherri Shepherd has always been a great comedic actress, appearing on shows like Friends and Suddenly Susan, and of course her regular roles on 30 Rock, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Less Than Perfect.

Last night's new episode was the Halloween episode. What did you think?

Gary Unmarried: Gary on the Air - open thread

Gary Unmarried
I think Gary Unmarried might just be the new Yes, Dear. Remember that show? It lasted for several seasons even though no one talked about, and just when we thought it had gone away it came back for several more episodes. I think this Jay Mohr comedy might be in the same category: it's a sitcom that, before you know it, is going to be in season five.

Gary has a new job as a radio host. Did you watch it? Is this show any good? Is it an ignored comedy gem we should all be watching? It is produced and directed by James Burrows, after all. I watched the first two episodes and it's not terrible, but it just seems to be a lesser sitcom.

Three Rivers: Good Intentions - open thread

Three RiversI hate when football runs over. I want to watch 60 Minutes but two teams insist on ending the fourth quarter in a tie and have to go to overtime. Even when it's not OT the game often runs over, and for some reason CBS then goes to another game instead of starting the prime time shows right away. Last night they went to another game and fans of Cold Case were left in the dark because CBS didn't have enough time to show the episode.

But Three Rivers fans got to see Alex O'Loughlin and his friends try to save lives. What did you think of the episode?

Hell's Kitchen: Season Finale - open thread

Hell's Kitchen
I haven't watched this season of Hell's Kitchen since the second episode. But I have them all recorded just in case I wanted to get back into it and maybe I'll take one of these weekend days and do a marathon. Of course, since I'm writing this post I already know who won, but it won't ruin the season for me. It's all about the journey (and a chef yelling at people).

So were you surprised by who won?

The Next Iron Chef: Season Premiere

The Next Iron ChefI'm of two minds about The Next Iron Chef. I love a lot of food competition shows and this one is enjoyable, but at the same time I've always thought that being an Iron Chef was something important, something big, something you couldn't become just by competing in some reality show. But then I remembered that it was a reality show and that I'm overthinking it and I should just shut up.

Last night was the season premiere. Thoughts?

American Dad: In Country ... Club (season premiere) - open thread

American DadI figured I'd post this open thread for the season premiere of American Dad not just because I want fans to have a place to talk about the show but I'm wondering, well, if anyone even cares about it anymore.

I tried to get into the show but, beyond some funny lines here and there, I just don't find it that amusing. It seems rather forced and off-balance to me. Are you still watching it? It seems to be the FOX animated show that not many people talk about.

Law and Order: CI: Revolution (season finale) - open thread

Jeff Goldblum

And so ends the first season of Law and Order: Criminal Intent with Jeff Goldblum as one of the stars (alternating the lead role with Vincent D'Onofrio). There are fans who love the Goldblum episodes and those that only want to see the veteran D'Onofrio in the lead. I noticed that the plots of the Goldblum/Nicholson episodes seemed to be really ambitious, but I don't think that made them better.

What grade do you give Goldblum for his first season?

Kings: The New King, Part 2 (series finale) - open thread

And so Kings has ended its run on NBC. This was one of the "quality" dramas that some people got excited about when it debuted months ago ... and then it crashed and NBC shoved it over to Saturday nights. But if Twitter is any indication, it still has its fans. What did you think of last night's episode?

Meteor: Conclusion - open thread

I'm hearing a lot of things about NBC's Meteor miniseries, that it was deliriously awful, stupid, ridiculous, and overall a candidate for Mystery Science Theater 3000. Is that true?

I think these "Earth being destroyed by rocks from space" movies played themselves out years ago, and I thought the casting of people like Christopher Lloyd and Jason Alexander was kinda funky, but was it that bad? Give us your thoughts below and let me know if I should even bother watching it.

Miami Social: Liar Liar (series premiere) - open thread

Miami Social

How many reality shows featuring beautiful people going to parties and arguing do we need? How many does Bravo need? I really hate the direction that the cable channel has gone in the past several years. An endless supply of Real Housewives shows, NYC Prep, America's Next Top Model, The Fashion Show, Flipping Out, Make Me A Supermodel, Millionaire Matchmaker, Tabatha's Salon Takeover ... make it stop!

Having said that, did you watch Miami Social? And if so ... why?

Meteor: Part 1 - open thread

Back in the late 70s, there was a major disaster movie about a huge meteor coming to Earth and causing havoc. It was called Meteor and it starred Sean Connery, Natalie Wood, Karl Malden, Henry Fonda, and a ton of other big names, like all 70s disaster movies had.

Now we have another movie about two large meteors coming to Earth to cause havoc called Meteor, only this time it's on television and it's a miniseries and it stars Christopher Lloyd, Stacy Keach, and Jason Alexander. What did you think? Here's Part 1 if you missed it (Part 2 airs next week).
