Brian Austin Green won't be fighting Skynet or returning to prime time soaps next fall.
Last week,
we reported that the former
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star was in talks to join the The CW teen drama
One Tree Hill. Nerds like me, who came to love Green as
TSCC's badass, cyborg-killing Derek Reese, were crushed. But it's time for those nerd hearts to heal. It turns out Green's reps didn't make a deal, and he won't be moving to
One Tree Hill.
Instead,
OTH has
turned to Lipstick Jungle's Robert Buckley, who recently showed up on the network's much-praised but still canceled drama
Privileged. Buckley will play the young, sexy sports agent role that was offered to Green.

Beverly Hills 90210 alum Brian Austin Green earned a number of new fans playing the tough, militaristic Derek Reese on
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Now, with
TSCC officially canceled, Green is heading back to the world of prime time soaps. The actor is currently in talks to
join the cast of The CW's One Tree Hill.
According to
Variety, Green will potentially play a sports agent who is "enjoying the spoils that come from being a wealthy, handsome single guy" on the veteran drama.
It looks like One
Tree Hill might be looking to Green to fill a void left by the departures of stars Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton. Green certainly has Murray beat in the charisma department, and I'm sure the show's fans -- I assume they are mostly young women -- will welcome him with open arms. But I can't help but feel disappointed by this news.

The CW knows what it's good at and they're sticking to it: sex and beauty. After the success of
Gossip Girl and
90210, two very buzzed about shows, the CW announced this morning that they're picking up three new dramatic series in the same vein for next fall:
Melrose Place, Vampire Diaries and The Beautiful Life. In addition, the network is also dumping any original Sunday night programming. Next season, local affiliate stations will program these slots. They also announced this morning that in addition to renewing hits like
Gossip Girl &
90210, the CW is also bringing back
Smallville for an
8th season, 9th season but moving the aging drama out of its competitive Thursday night 8PM slot to Friday night at 8. More details after the jump.

It always interests me when a show goes on for years and years even though not many people talk about it.
One Tree Hill is a show like that. You always here about CW shows like
Gossip Girl,
Smallville, and
Supernatural, but
One Tree Hill is a show that has its rabid fan base too, proving that its not just buzz that's important.
But can the show survive without Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton (
who are leaving the show), or are we probably looking at the last season next year anyway?

Sweet Zombie Jesus! In the biggest display of optimism in the face of depression since FDR signed the New Deal,
The CW has renewed six of their series, including
Smallville, for next season. It's like someone forgot to tell The CW that their ratings comparatively suck and the economy is in the crapper.
I can't speak for the other series they've renewed, by The CW should be sticking a fork in
Smallville. It's done. This season would have made a good final one but dragging it out for another year seems fatalistic. Who will be showing up next? Darkseid? The cow is dead. Stop trying to milk it.
Still, one has to admire The CW for flipping the bird in the face of the critics (including yours truly). I just think the merger between The WB and UPN was a bad idea way back when. The program selection and quality seemed better when they were two separate networks.
