After the
season finale of How I Met Your Mother last May, Joel asked readers if they believed that Ted would marry Stella. Nearly 61% of you responded to that poll in the negative. Six out of ten answered: "Nah. I just don't think she's the mother."
So, then, what do we make of the fact that
there is definitely going to be a wedding for Ted and Stella in an October episode. That proposal from Ted to Stella in that last episode receives a yes, and he and Stella would seem to be heading down the aisle.
I say seem because if television has taught us anything it's that just because he's in a tuxedo and she's in a wedding gown, that doesn't guarantee that both will say "I do."
Even if they do go through with the wedding, though, does that mean that Stella is actually "mother"? Is it possible that Ted and Stella get married and break up before Ted hooks up with the character who is destined to be the mother that he's talking to the kids about in the openings.
One thing about
Mother co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, they keep us viewers on our toes.

Is AMC determined to shed its image as the second-best old movie channel -- number one id TCM -- to become a serious rival in series TV? It seems that the great success of
Mad Men and the nearly as great success of
Breaking Bad has emboldened AMC and they are itching for more.
AMC has ordered a political thriller pilot from executive producer Jason Horwitch.
The plot involves two potential fascinating elements: a secret society that has political power around the world and uses it to manipulate countries, and also an analyst working in a think tank who discovers that the people with whom he works are not who they seem to be. That last part sounds like a very Hitchcockian idea, especially if he's wrongly accused of something that happens on the job and has to go on the run or go undercover to suss out the bad guys. We'll see...
"This is a world you have not seen on television before -- it's not your typical spy thriller." That's what AMC is saying about the show, and if they can catch an
All The President's Men or
Parallax View paranoia vibe, they might be right.

I told you back in May that The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones might be out on DVD before Christmas -- and it will be.
The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones: Volume One will hit stores on October 23 and will include seven feature-length episodes which follow a young Indiana Jones as he encounters various historical figures and important events from the past. The 12-disc set will also include a whopping thirty-eight documentaries corresponding with the episodes, and interviews with such people as Martin Scorsese, Colin Powell, Deepak Chopra and James Earl Jones. Two more volumes will follow on December 18 and Spring 2008, respectively.

It was more than a year ago that
Bob told you about a reality show that Elvira, a.k.a. "Mistress of the Dark", would be starring in. Fox just
gave it the green light and ordered 13 episodes, to begin airing on October 13th, with the live finale on Halloween night.
The idea behind this series is that the real Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) is searching for a double-- someone who can make public appearances and represent her. She's still in pretty high demand, with her manager claiming that she gets requests for "hundreds" of public appearances each year. Good for her, I say, for successfully sustaining the same character since the 1980s.
All Elvira wanna-bes can audition for the show on July 13th at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California.

It's a fact: cartoon characters don't care for pants. Frankly, I don't trust any cartoon character that wears them. What exactly was the deal with Mickey's shorts and those big yellow buttons? Were they knobs that operated some secret radio he used to send messages to the enemy during World War II? And just look at the old Warner Brothers cartoons: the only folks who wore pants were all bad guys: Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Percy the Pants-Wearing Haberdasher -- okay, I made that last one up, but you get my point. Anyway, to honor those toons who choose not to cover their butts, Boomerang is launching "No Undies Mondays" starting on October 9th. Every Monday at 4 pm, an hour will be set aside to honor the Hanna-Barbera characters who let it all hang out. Yes, that pretty much describes every Hanna-Barbera character, but let's not overthink things, it's still a fun idea.

In May, I relayed
some news to y'all that plans were in the works to release DVDs of older episodes of
Sesame Street. The always vigilant
Muppet News Flash has some good news for fans: "Sesame Street: Old School - Volume 1" will be in stores on October 24. The set will include five episodes form the first five years of the series from 1969 to 1974, plus a cavalcade of clips from these early seasons. Fans can look forward to two classic tunes from the series, "Rubber Duckie" and "C is for Cookie." That's right, this was the era when Cookie Monster ate cookies and was damn proud of it, none of this "fruits and vegetables" nonsense. Of course, he also ate props and backdrops, but if
Sesame Street taught me anything it's to respect people for who they are.

The second season of Wonder Showzen, MTV2's hidden subversive gem, will be out on DVD on October 17. If you haven't seen the show, it's essentially what Sesame Street would be if the writers and performers injected LSD directly into their brains before taping every episode. The set will include all eight episodes from the second season, outtakes from the "Clarence" and "Beat Kids" segments, a Wonder Showzen storybook, and assorted games, featurettes and other nonsense. You know, DVD-type stuff. Besides being one of the funniest, sickest, and oddest shows to ever hit the airwaves, the show also featured a lot of great comedians in guest roles, including Amy Sedaris, David Cross, Zach Galifianakis, and Jon Glaser.
