Nickelodeon is a place where things are happening. This post is a place where I will tell you what those things are. Yes.
Last Day of Summer, in which a boy lives his final day of summer over and over again. It premieres on Nick on July 20. The movie stars Jansen Panettiere, who voiced a character in not one, but TWO Holly Hobbie videos. How many of us can say that? How many people besides myself know what the hell Holly Hobbie is?

Does this really surprise anyone? Sanford and Son, Redd Foxx's sitcom from the 1970s, might be made into a feature film with Bernie Mac taking on the role of Fred Sanford popularized by the late Foxx. The film has been kicking around the studios for a few years now, and is currently at Sony. Nick Cannon is also slated to play Lamont Sanford, Fred's son.
I'm not a big fan of TV to movie adaptations, but I do recognize that sometimes they can work. The movie Charlie's Angels, which I found rather insipid, was at least based on three crime-fighting chicks, a concept that lends itself to a full-length movie. I'm just not sure how Sanford and Son could be stretched beyond half an hour, taking into consideration the show was essentially built around Foxx and his comedy. The show could have taken place in a bicycle repair shop and I don't think it would have made much difference. Unless some filmmaker out there has something truly amazing in mind for this flick, it seems better to just let it go.

Last October Anna mentioned that MTV had picked up another new comedy series from Nick Cannon called Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz. You know the show is going to be all urban and edgy because they used a "Z" instead of an "S." That's how all the cool kidz do it, you know. Since I'm actually cooler than anyone, I've stopped using the letter S completely in my daily life:
Me: Excuze me, I want to order a zandwich, and I want plenty of muztard and mayonnaize, pleaze. And a zausage patty, but not too zpicy, becauze my tongue is zenzitive.
You can watch a trailer for the new series here, which premieres on MTV April 5 at 9:30 p.m. Apparently, they decided to make a trailer using only the unfunny bits from the show, or maybe those were the funny parts. I don't pretend to know everything about comedy, especially the painfully unfunny kind.

MTV is giving sketch comedy another whirl, this time with actor/rapper/comedian Nick Cannon at the helm. The new show is part of a production deal that MTV signed with Cannon just before the third season of his improv show,
Nick Cannon Presents Wild 'N Out, premiered in August on the network. The new sketch show is called
Nick Cannon Presents: Short Circuitz (I guess name recognition is a big deal for him). MTV has ordered eight half-hour episodes, to air in early 2007. Supporting cast members include Taran Killam (
Nobody's Watching), Katt Williams, Leonard Robinson, Eliza Coupe, and Affion Crockett. The show includes the usual sketch ingredients of impersonations, parodies and comedic spins on topical issues.
