Dexter: Easy As Pie

Dexter
(S03E07)
A lot of significant events happened in tonight's episode of Dexter. What to make of the title, "Easy As Pie?" I think it refers to Dexter being able to make decisions. All his life, he's lived by Harry's code. Now, as we see him breaking it, or deciding whether or not he should break it, we see things being easier for Dexter.

Far be it from me to reveal anything before the jump, like the fact that Rita is pregnant or that Dexter is a serial killer (whoops -- did I just give something away?). Join me after the break to analyze tonight's plot points.

Dexter: Si Se Puede

Dexter and Harry discussing

(S03E06)
After the way last week's episode ended, I could hardly wait for tonight's episode. The title loosely translates to "If You Can," and I wondered how this theme would play out through the episode, as the Dexter themes always do.

The way I see it, "If You Can" hits on so many levels.

Can Miguel stomach the kills like Dexter does? Can Dexter share his dark passenger with Miguel?
I guess we won't find out anytime soon, thanks to Dexter's good sense finally kicking in after weeks of making me a nervous wreck. I'm glad Dexter trusted Miguel enough for Miguel to prove that he really is a true friend to Dexter, but I breathed a huge sigh of relief that Dexter did not kill in front of Miguel.

Dexter: Turning Biminese

Dexter and Miguel talking at the marina
(S03E05) The predictability of Dexter really comes into play in tonight's episode. All season, they've been setting us up for things that took place tonight. I've always said that although Dexter can be predictable, for some reason, it never ruins the suspense of the show.

And that stands true tonight. We knew nearly everything that was going to happen, yet still I sat breathless, watching with my mouth hanging open, as the episode unfolded. Predictable? Yep. Boring? Never.

Dexter: All in the Family

Dexter and Miguel conversing on beach

(S03E04)
I'm really enjoying Dexter this season, so far. Although it seems to have a slightly different tone than past seasons, it continues to hold my rapt attention with its amazing character development and intricate plotlines.

Last week's episode was my favorite one this season. Was tonight's as good? Yes, but in a very different way from last week's episode. We got humor and suspense last week; this week, many little subplots setting the stage to go deeper in future episodes.

The main theme that glued this episode together was role-playing, and how the different roles of Dexter and others influenced who Dexter was.

Dexter: The Lion Sleeps Tonight

Dexter and Miguel talking on his balcony

(S03E03)
I found this episode of Dexter to be the funniest so far. I know they aren't exactly going for a dramedy here, but the comedic relief in tonight's episode was priceless. Then again, when Dexter brutally strangles someone, I suppose we needed the change in mood.

The best part? Dexter's voiceovers. Voiceovers can be a tricky thing, and of the shows I watch, only Dexter and Burn Notice get it right. The title of the episode is reflected throughout the voiceovers, with lion and hunting comparisons while Dexter is interacting with the pedophile. These are tightly written and woven seamlessly throughout the episode.

Dexter: Our Father (season premiere)

Dexter giving a dad's day talk to Cody's class
(S03E01) Some changes are in the air for Dexter and its crew this season, judging by the happenings in the first episode. Batista is promoted to sergeant -- yay for him -- and he seems to be taking his new position very seriously. Will this responsible cop deal last? I like Batista and hope that it will, but the set-up makes me wonder.

Deb has turned over a new leaf: no drinking, no men and no smokes -- at least she still swears like a truck driver because I'd sure miss that. She sports a short, sassy new haircut to go with her no-nonsense new 'tude. She may be able to stick with the no smoking, but will she succumb to the men or booze first?

What are they going to do with Rita's pregnancy? No good can come of this, I assure you. Dexter as a dad only works part-time for me; I can't picture him without his bachelor pad, his privacy, his little haven complete with research laptop and hidden slides of blood.

Dexter season 3 -- an early look

Michael C. Hall as DexterArguably the best show on television (in fact, it's killer!), it is no mystery why I have been looking forward to the start of Dexter, season three. Top-notch writing, geared toward viewers with a brain and a personality, has always been Dexter's M.O. I'm happy to say this continues in season three.

I've been lucky enough to see the first four episodes of the season, and you really, really don't want to miss them. Really. They continue where season two left off, and I surely don't miss the obnoxious, vile Lilah. I don't want to give anything away, but here are some tidbits:

Dexter dates his sister?

dexterIn this news item of paramount importance, we as readers, viewers and fans learn that Dexter Morgan is dating his sister, Deborah. It seems they have been seen romantically dining together, even celebrating.

What confusion will this lead to? When Dexter looks at Deborah longingly on camera, will he be wishing they were on a date? Or does he have the lust for a kill? Will they write the dating into the show? Will Dexter and Deborah become the first brother-sister couple on the air?

Get some perspective, people. Michael C. Hall and his co-star, Jennifer Carpenter are dating. Real life. Fictionally, they can still be siblings without a conflict of interest. Let's just be happy for them that they may have found true love, shall we?
