The list of singers agreeing to appear on FOX's Duets, a contest that pairs regular celebrities with singing celebrities, is a mixture of has-beens, legends, and Michael Bolton. The singers are: Cyndi Lauper, Smokey Robinson, Chaka Khan, Clint Black, Dionne Warwick, Patti LaBelle, Brian McKnight, Macy Gray, Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Randy Travis, and Aaron Neville. That's actually a pretty impressive list. I think many of those singers have done guest appearances on American Idol.
Now... who would make an interesting pair? I wouldn't be surprised to see Nicollette Sheridan coupled with her fiance, Michael Bolton. How about Punky Brewster with Cyndi Lauper? And Johnny Fairplay with Macy Gray?
The series debuts August 29th. The celebrity pairs will be eliminated each week by judges and viewer votes.
Minds out of the gutters, kids. Michael Bolton's new album, Bolton Swings Sinatra, features the voice of his fiance and Desperate Housewives co-star, Nicolette Sheridan. She joined him to sing The Second Time Around, a very appropriate song considering the couple is dating for the second time (they dated for a few years in the early 1990s and then reuited last year). Bolton said Sheridan was scared to death to sing and that she is very self-conscious about her voice, even though he says it's great. Bolton said Sheridan sang in a "breathy" way to accompany the voice track he'd already laid down.
At least, that's what gossip rag Starpulse is claiming. Apparently the middle-of-the-road crooner thinks he might actually have a fighting chance in the cutthroat world of talk shows, but he's not quite ready to put in the amount of work it takes to create a good show. Bolton claims, "I could do a show where I could look at topics and social issues and have fun, but also do my musical thing at the same time." That's a really great idea, and it's only been done by, well, everybody. Frankly, I don't think Mr. Bolton has the slightest clue what makes a talk show successful, so I'm here to tell him, right now, that making a talk show takes time, love, and tenderness. Also, it's not wise to start a talk show and then end it suddenly, because how are we supposed to live without you, when we've been loving you so long? Okay, I've run out of Michael Bolton lyrical references, so I'll just stop now.
Nicolette Sheridan, also known as Edie Britt on Desperate Housewives, is engaged to singer Michael Bolton. A
rep for Sheridan says Bolton proposed over the weekend in the Bahamas, and the couple will share exclusive details of
the proposal to Access Hollywood. Sheridan and Bolton dated back in the 1990s, but went their separate ways.
Sheridan married and divorced L.A. Law star Harry Hamlin, and recently broke off an engagement to Nick
Soderblom. She and Bolton reconnected over Christmas.
