Freema Agyeman will be taking
one more trip in the TARDIS. Her Martha Jones character has been scheduled to appear in one of the forthcoming
Doctor Who specials. Keep in mind that the source of this news is The Sun, so it should be taken with a grain of salt until there is an official BBC announcement.
My guess is they'll be wrapping up the character, who was supposed to be a regular cast member of Torchwood, but suddenly wasn't due to the fact that Freema moved on to other projects such as the remake of
Survivors. I'm sure the fact that
Torchwood season three was changed to a five episode story-arc rather than a full season didn't help. Russell T. Davies will have to explain story-wise why Martha ended up somewhere else.
In other
Doctor Who news: the
New York Comic Con guests will include Colin Baker (the sixth Doctor). Also, there will be a
Torchwood panel with Eve Myles.and episode director Euros Lyn.

Very rarely does a television series put out a standalone episode that is not only brilliant in and of itself, but also stands above pretty much every episode of that series. And yet, with the tenth episode of the third series,
Doctor Who did just that with "
Blink." Even more remarkable is that this episode barely featured the Doctor or then-companion Martha Jones. It had become common, due to the tight production schedules, for an episode each season to barely feature the Doctor, but this one absolutely blew our minds.
And apparently voices that matter agreed, because writer
Stephen Moffat was just awarded the prestigious Hugo Award for short form dramatic presentation for "Blink." I have to figure it's a large part of why he's been selected to take over as lead writer and executive producer of
Doctor Who from Russell T. Davies when the show returns for its fifth series in 2010. Based on this one episode alone, the show couldn't be in better hands.

Despite having a shortened upcoming third season, episodes of
Torchwood continue to be made. This next one, however, will be
on the radio rather than television. The episode is called "Lost Souls" and was written by Joseph Lidster.
The episode takes place after the season two finale "Exit Wounds." It will star the surviving members of that slaughter played by the actors John Barrowman, Eve Myles, and Gareth David-Lloyd. Freema Agyeman will also appear in the episode as former
Doctor Who companion Martha Jones.
I managed to get my hands on a few of the
Doctor Who audio adventures put out by
Big Finish Productions and have enjoyed them tremendously (particularly since they give me a chance to hear what Paul McGann would have been like as the Doctor had he continued in the role). With that in mind, I'm looking forward to what an audio adventure of
Torchwood has to offer.
The episode will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on September 10th.

(S04E12) Russell T. Davies seems to include everyone and the kitchen sink in this episode. Appearing in the parent program are Captain Jack, Ianto and Gwen from
Torchwood and Sarah Jane and Luke Smith from
The Sarah Jane Adventures. Also making appearances are Martha Jones, Martha's mother Francine, Harriet Jones (former Prime Minister...yes, we know who you are), and British celebrities Richard Dawkins (real-life husband of former
Doctor Who companion Lalla Ward) and Paul O'Grady as themselves. Oh, and Rose is back.

(S02E13) Well, despite some ups and downs throughout the season, to say that this second run went out with a bang, both literally and emotionally, would be an understatement. Definitely, this ranks as one of the best episodes of the series so far and so amazingly surpasses the first season finale in every way. Where that was a silly overblown giant monster romp, this one existed on a much more intimate level within the lives of our cast of characters.
The cast and crew spent all season really fleshing out this team for us and making us learn to love and care for each of them; all of it leading to this stunning finale. Now the events herein could really resonate. Now you might be asking why such a generic
Torchwood picture for such a key episode? I see it as a tribute. To what? Well, if you've seen the episode, maybe you know what. If not, what the hell are you doing here? Go watch it already.

(S02E08) "You get to live forever. I get to die forever." -Owen comparing his situation to Jack's immortality.
This was a very different
Torchwood episode. There were no aliens to battle and no major action sequences. In fact, Team Torchwood was mostly inactive. Instead, we got to take an episode to look deep into the psyche and situation of Dr. Owen Harper. Everything from the music to the way the various scenes were shot lent itself perfectly to the melancholy and hopelessness of the character. Burn Gorman showed tremendous depth in his portrayal of Owen this installment, and it looks like we may finally be looking at some major growth for Owen. Not that he still doesn't have some very serious issues to deal with.

(S02E07) The death of Owen Harper trilogy continued. But does death mean the same thing in the world of
Torchwood as it does in our world? Do you really need to ask? Aside from an incredibly hokey introductory sequence in which Jack stormed into the above scene, struck a very theatrical pose and said "Nobody touches him until I return!" before abruptly disappearing again, this was a pretty solid episode. I do have to say that the point of Martha's continuing involvement is escaping me as she didn't really have anything to add to this installment.

(S02E06) "Let's say we were under the same Doctor." Martha Jones explaining to Owen how she knows Jack.
This was probably the most anticipated episode of the season for die-hard
Doctor Who fans. It marked the arrival of The Doctor's most recent companion, Martha Jones, for an extended run on the series. As fans of that series know, Jack met up with Martha during his most recent bout with The Doctor on
Doctor Who. At the end of that show's fourth season, Martha made the decision to leave The Doctor and stay behind on Earth. As such, it makes perfect sense that she would be available now to appear on the spin-off. And she fit in pretty seamlessly with the gang, even serving to lighten up Jack a lot.

In the No Duh News category,
Sci Fi Channel has reported that they've acquired the fourth series (or season) of
Doctor Who for air beginning in April. What's great additional news is that they've also picked up
The Sarah Jane Adventures as well. The latter series focuses on Elisabeth Sladen's Sarah Jane, one of the most popular and famous "companions" in Who History, as she battles to keep Britain and the world save from alien encounters and invasions.
Sarah Jane is aided by a small group of children in her quest. And while the series has a lower budget than
Who and is geared more towards a children's audience, I still found it to be tremendously fun. And any opportunity to see K-9 is worth it in my book!

Just as happened with parent series Doctor Who, those of us stateside won't have to wait as long after the British airing of Torchwood's second season to see it here, though ironically it has yet to be announced when it will premiere on BBC Two in the UK. TVGuide.com tells us the second season of BBC America's biggest hit comes to us beginning January 26. And with James Marsters (Buffy/Angel) dropping in for a guest shot, and Doctor Who's Freema Agyeman (companion Martha) checking in for an extended stay mid-season, this second go round with Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen and the gang is shaping up to be more exciting than the first.
Marsters will play a time-agent criminal who "goes around in different times killing people with no remorse at all." His character Spike, remains one of the most popular in the Buffy-verse, so I expect Torchwood's ratings to see another "spike." (Boo! Boo! Hiss! Get off the stage!).

Please note that the title was meant to be said in a very sleazy voice, stretching out the word "ladies" to "lay-deez" accompanied by an inappropriate waggle of the eyebrows. Now that the finale of
Doctor Who has aired, loads of news regarding the upcoming Christmas special and fourth series has started coming in and all that news is about the ladies (again: "lay-deez").
First off, it has been announced that music super-star Kylie Minogue will be the
Christmas special companion. The only film I have seen her in is
Moulin Rouge!, but I don't think the Green Fairy's giggling and playful rump-shaking is enough to create a fair appraisal. But judging by Kylie's overall fabulousness, I think she'll do a pretty good job in "Voyage of the Damned" special. There's two more bits of casting news I've included after the jump, but they include spoilers from the series three finale! Don't keep reading unless you've seen it already! You have been warned! Exclamation mark!

Television and I don't see much of each other during the summer months, even during this era of year-round original programming. One reason why is, well, it's summer. I spend enough time cooped up in a small cubicle staring at a computer screen that I use summer to stretch my legs a bit. The other most likely reason is that I still have the mentality that there's nothing good on television to watch during the summer. Chalk that up to years of never-ending repeats while I was growing up.
Still, there are a few shows that I will watch on a regular basis, and there are some new outings that look interesting. So, without much fanfare, here is what I'm going to be watching this summer.

(S03E01) You can say what you like, but I won't be listening --
Doctor Who is one of the best, if not
the best, television programmes of all time, and Russell T. Davies' current incarnation of the character and franchise is no exception.
The return of series three was marked by several important milestones in the character's chronology (if a linear method of cataloging the Doctor's life can be described in traditional terms); the introduction of a new companion, the setup of plot and theme for the rest of the series, and the subtle hints at bigger things yet to come.
Warning: spoilers after the jump.Continue reading Doctor Who: Smith and Jones

Doctor Who executive producer Russell T Davies
says the show will be back for a fourth series (that's British for season). He made remarks at the London premiere of series three.
What's less clear at the moment is who will be playing the Doctor in series four. Current Doctor David Tennant has remained silent on the issue. Series three has actress Freema Agyeman playing Martha Jones, the doctor's new assistant. She fills the void left by Billie Piper's departure from the program.
It had been widely suspected that a fourth season was already on deck, but Davies' confirmation should come as good news for
Doctor Who fans. Now if only Americans didn't have to wait months or years for each new season to show up on the SciFi channel.

Newcomer Freema Agyeman has been chosen to play Doctor Who's new companion, Martha Jones, in the upcoming season. She already played a different character in the current season, but executive producer and writer Russell T. Davies liked her so much that she was brought in to audition again. Hopefully, Billie Piper haters can watch the program with a little more ease now.
Here's the
BBC press release, but it contains a spoiler if you don't know what happens to Freema's first character, Adeola. And
here's a gallery with a couple more pictures of David Tennant and Freema.
