One of the stranger quirks of the holidays on television is the way networks and channels program. Movie marathons have become very common, especially TBS's tradition of 24-hours of
A Christmas Story. Now, another network is following in TBS's tradition by scheduling a movie marathon of its own.
The TV Guide Network will present a 12-hour marathon of Dirty Dancing. That's right, the Patrick Swayze-Jennifer Grey drama musical.
Look at this beautiful image from the movie. That's Johnny and Baby in the lake, practicing jumps for their big dance number. Doesn't it just scream "CHRISTMAS" to you?

There was a real conundrum for
Mad Men last Sunday night. Did you watch the Emmys and see
Mad Men win as Outstanding Drama Series or were you tuned in to watch latest episode from Season Three? Of course, most of you reading are DVR owners and could watch one live and record the other, but watching an award show after you know the winners is a little like watching sports when you know the results.
Well, if a
Mad Men fan has missed any episodes this season, or if they're piled up on the DVR/Tivo queue, making you feel guilty for not keeping up, here's an out.
AMC is going to show a Mad Men Season Three marathon on Sunday, September 27, starting at 10 a.m. All six episodes will air up to the premiere of the last, episode seven, at 10 p.m.

This is one of the many reasons I love Turner Classic Movies.
They're celebrating the 40th anniversary of the moon landing on Monday, July 20 with classic, revered movies you'd expect, like
The Right Stuff and
From The Earth To The Moon, but they also have the sense of humor to also show
They Came From Beyond Space, a ridiculous (but entertaining), low-budget 60s sci-fi movie about aliens who come to take over Earth but can't control one scientist because he has a metal plate in his head.
Here's the full schedule for the all-day TCM marathon.

While
a myriad of people watched the latest Presidential address by Barack Obama, those that weren't in favor of his presidency can give themselves some comfort by tuning into AMC on Memorial Day, when the Senator from Arizona and former Presidential candidate will be
hosting a marathon of famous war movies while discussing his own war experiences.
This is a really good idea. I thought John McCain was a good presidential candidate (although I didn't like how he moved further to the right to appease his party when he finally got the nomination) and could have been a good president. I just hope that when he talks about his time at war he emphasizes that it's not fun or cool like the movies make it seem. That's just part of the liberal Hollywood agenda.
I'm not sure what I'm doing on Memorial Day, but I just may have to tune into AMC just to see what the Senator says. Also,
Patton is a really good flick.

Last week we had the
did she or did she not swear semi-controversy on
The Biggest Loser, and this week we have a
blue team falling apart. We also have a controversy that might actually damage the show: the contestant shown finishing a marathon the other night
didn't really finish it.
At the end of the episode, they showed contestant Dane crossing the finish line after completing a 26-mile marathon in Arizona. This was supposed to be an uplifting moment, where one of the players lost weight and actually struggled to finish the marathon with his family and friends around him, cheering him on. The problem? He actually didn't finish the race himself. Along the route somewhere, a van picked him up and drove him to the finish line, and he crossed the line with his wife and kid.

Perhaps my favorite thing about
Dirty Sexy Money is how the stellar acting from the entire cast makes you actually like and feel for this disgustingly rich and seemingly shallow family, the Darlings.
Why would anyone love a patriarch who manipulates and plays dirty, in both his business and personal life? Tripp Darling does it, and portrayed by Donald Sutherland, you love him anyway. He's got a sensitivity and down-home kind of style that lets him get away with it all.
Well, good news abounds in television these days:
Dexter's third season is about to begin,
Bones' fourth season is officially underway and there will be a
Dirty Sexy Money marathon -- the whole first season, in order -- on SOAPnet.

I've been feeling pretty frustrated lately that there isn't much on TV.
Burn Notice and
Psych are don't-miss shows in my house, and
The Middleman is watchable, but beyond that, I am not too excited about summer shows.
What gets me excited?
Damages does, that's for sure. The first season of
Damages was completely amazing, and I think I bemoan the fact, nearly daily, that no new episodes will air until 2009.
If you missed
Damages the first time, or if you just want to relive the awesomeness that was season one,
FX announced that they will be airing a Damages marathon starting Saturday, August 9 at 7:00 a.m.

Believe it or not, Futurama has been airing on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block for about five years. During that period, fans of the show have probably watched every single episode at least once, or twice, or fifteen times. Now, those same fans will get the chance to watch every single episode one more time as Adult Swim begins a Futurama marathon.
Starting tonight at 11:00 PM, and continuing until 11:30 PM on the last day of the year, there will be nothing on the schedule but Fry, Leela, Bender, and the rest of the team from Planet Express. On December 31st Adult Swim will air the show's first episode, 'Space Pilot 3000' and the last episode, 'The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings' (great episode, by the way) at 11:00 pm and 11:30 pm respectively. This is all in preparation of Futurama moving from Adult Swim to Comedy Central starting on January 1st.

Modern Marvels, the long-running History Channel series that explores all kinds of scientific and technological feats and where they came from, is asking viewers to choose their favorite episodes for a marathon airing July 28 starting at noon (winners will be announced the day before). Viewers can go here and choose their eight favorite episodes from a list of episodes that cover topics such as 80s tech, brewing, horsepower, snackfood and harvesting. The site also features clips from the episodes. Yeah, there's only twenty episodes to choose from, which doesn't seem like much since the series has been on for over ten years, but I don't think fans will complain.
Modern Marvels began in 1994 and is narrated by Max Raphael.
Starting July 30, Modern Marvels will air every weeknight at 8:00 p.m.

So I told you that on May 18 Human Giant would be taking the reins of MTV and MTV2 for 24 hours starting at noon on May 18.
A rather amusing press release has it that MTV will give the series --which features actors Paul Scheer, Aziz Ansari and Rob Huebel-- a second season if they get one million hits on their MTV site. A snippet from the release:

Okay, so back on May 9 I found an interview with Human Giant's Paul Scheer (via CC Insider) in which Scheer said that he and his partners in crime, Aziz Ansari and Rob Huebel, would be taking over MTV for a whole 24 hours starting at noon on May 18. I couldn't find anything on MTV's site about it, and then I got distracted by something shiny and wound up forgetting about it.
Well, today The Coming cited an actual e-mail from Scheer himself that makes things a little less vague. It reads:

It's amazing to me how well episodes of
The Office hold up to repeated viewings. The funny moments are just as funny, and the uncomfortable moments are just as cringe-inducing, as they were the first time around. That notion was brought home to me last night during NBC's
Office marathon.
The network decided to air five "HR nightmare" episodes of the show (and one very funny episode of
Andy Barker, P.I.), with new wraparounds featuring Toby the HR rep and a few of the secondary characers. All three seasons were represented, including the second episode that ever aired, "Diversity Day." The consistency of the humor from the first, little-watched season to now is pretty remarkable: Michael is inappropriate and uncomfortable, Dwight is an unrepentant suck-up, Pam is sweet with a bit of a snarky streak, and Jim is Jim. But what is really apparent when you look at the three seasons of the show mashed together is how many little things have changed.

On Sunday, February 4, the same day some kind of football game or something airs on TV, TBS will air all thirteen season one episodes of the series My Boys. The marathon begins with the first episode at 5:00pm and ends at 11:30pm. New episodes will premiere sometime this summer.
My Boys is currently the number one sitcom on ad-supported cable for adults 18 to 49, which means you actually have to watch the show if you fall into that age bracket. Otherwise, you upset the balance of the universe and before you know it the moon is crashing into the sun, the ocean tides are reversing, and owls are eating giraffes. I don't make the rules, people.
Of course, you could always record the marathon and watch the big game instead, but those of us who were artsy marching band nerds when we were younger and never cared much for football will be sitting back to enjoy some comedy.
