I've just learned from a source at Comedy Central that Krod Mandoon and The Flaming Sword of Fire will not return be returning for a second season. Now, I'm sure this wasn't anyone's favorite show, and there won't be too many online petitions for its return. But I was fond of it, and was hoping it would get a chance to grow a bit more.

For one thing, a fantasy comedy was a departure for Comedy Central's schedule. It was a little island of oddity amongst the more modern-looking programming, a pleasant change of pace. I also enjoyed the crew of supporting characters. Mandoon himself was kind of the standard altruistic oaf, but there was plenty of room for development, especially learning the others.

• At 8, ABC has a new Ugly Betty, followed by a new Grey's Anatomy and Michael J. Fox: Adventures of an Incurable Optimist.
• CBS has a new Survivor at 8, then a new CSI.
• NBC has new episodes of My Name Is Earl, Parks and Recreation, The Office, 30 Rock, and Southland.
• FOX has new episodes of Bones and Hell's Kitchen.
• The CW has a new Smallville at 8, then a new Supernatural.
• Also at 8: TNT has the Hawks/Cavaliers game.
• At 9, TLC has a new American Chopper.
• Spike has TNA Wrestling at 9.
• HBO has the movie Grey Gardens at 9.
• At 10, Bravo has the series premiere of The Fashion Show.
• Comedy Central has a new Krod Mandoon at 10.

I really wanted to like Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire. There hasn't been a good geek comedy that can create a whole satirical universe in the span of a few minutes since Futurama went off "Into the Wild Green Yonder," both on Fox and on DVD.

Krod Mandoon didn't have the potential to be the next Futurama, but it certainly had the makings of something that was willing to try. The title alone made me laugh the first time I heard it.

But after watching the first few episodes, it turns out the title has won the biggest laugh thus far.

For all you Andy Richter fans who are still waiting for that one show that will actually last a while on the schedule, this might be good news: the former Conan O'Brien sidekick has a new show in development at Comedy Central, for the 2008-09 season. The show is still untitled, but it is described as a comedy/sketch show.

That's just one of many shows in development at Comedy Central.
