I know it's only May and hardly the time to start thinking of egg nog and holly and Ebenezer Scrooge or any of the other Christmas standbys, but forgive me if I let out a whoop of happiness about the news that
Kristin Chenoweth will star in The Twelve Men of Christmas TV movie. The romantic comedy is slated to be part of the Fa La La La La Lifetime lineup (try saying that three times fast!), and while another holiday film doesn't usually make me gleeful, this one does.
Kristin Chenoweth is a gem. I'm still bereft that we'll probably never see her Olive Snook again because
Pushing Daisies is gone unless there's a movie, and I was tiffed that the David E. Kelly NBC pilot
Legally Mad was not picked up only because La Chenoweth was in it.

If there's a seven-figure penalty clause attached to your pilot if the network doesn't pick it up for series, how much does it have to suck ass if the net says, "Yeah, we'll pay the penalty rather than put that piece of crap on the air." That's what Warner Bros. is hearing as
NBC has passed on Legally Mad.
This is David E. Kelley's much ballyhooed next legal drama starring Kristin Chenoweth and Loretta Devine. See that's good talent right there and still they'd rather pay millions than put it on the air? Damn!

(S01E02) Last week, when I rewatched
Sit Down, Shut Up for my review, I said that while I still wasn't enthralled by it, the show was much better upon the second viewing. Since I thought episode 2 was much better than the pilot, I expected to like it even more upon rewatching. Oddly enough, I didn't.
As stellar as this cast is, I'm trying to separate my feelings about this show from my feelings about them. I love
Kristin Chenoweth on
Pushing Daisies, so I don't really want to admit that her work on this show reminds me of a more grating
Amy Sedaris with none of the humor, but it kind of does. I don't know if it's the way her character is written, or the fact that Chenoweth's particular brand of pixie cuteness doesn't translate unless you're looking at her, but she just sounds shrill to me.

There's a reason why when you watch
The Mentalist, there are always subtle close ups of
Simon Baker's eyes or of his mouth when he's talking. The producers know he's hot and they know women are watching. Between him, the cast of
Friday Night Lights, and a whole other
list of DILF's, there's a lot of male eye-candy on TV right now. But what about the women? Of course television is filled with hot chicks, but who do other women like to watch?
There are certain female characters who, when you watch them, you just want to hang out with. Either you think she'd be a good friend, or exciting to have around, or maybe you just kind of want to
be her. This, my friends, is a Girl Crush. Here is my list of Top Ten TV Girl Crushes.

If you had to guess, what's the most coveted, prime TV real estate currently available? In February, it was the post-Super Bowl slot, but now -- what could it be. How about the hour after the
American Idol finale on May 19 on FOX. With that in mind, FOX has decided to give one of its most promising, albeit unusual, new products the hour.
Ryan Murphy's musical comedy series
Glee is getting the post American Idol finale hour. And yes, it is a musical comedy TV series. After American Idol crowns its new winner on May 19, all those millions of viewers, the ones who stay on the network, will see a special preview of the show about a struggling high school glee club.

I should point out that when I say "coming back this summer" in the headline I mean that
ABC is bringing them back to burn off the remaining episodes that haven't aired yet. That's right, six months from now is the earliest you'll see any of these shows return. They could even come back later.
Pushing Daisies has three episodes left, while
Eli Stone and
Dirty Sexy Money each have four. Fans of these shows might not like this, but the truth is, the shows that have been in the time slots for these shows have actually done better in the ratings.

I don't know about you, but when creator Bryan Fuller talked about concluding all the story threads from
Pushing Daisies as a comic book, I was less than enthused. Now, however, I've got renewed hope.
No, ABC is not even mentioning bringing
Daisies back. They're not even committing to broadcasting the last few episodes. But
Kristin Chenoweth thinks Pushing Daisies might be a movie. That's right, the show could/would/should be wrapped up as a movie in her estimation.

She's been Glinda, the Good Witch (
Wicked) and Olive Snook, the itty-bitty, lovable waitress (
Pushing Daisies), comic strip cutie Sally Brown (
You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown), a PR pro on
The West Wing, and now she's going to be Skippy Pylon. Skippy the lawyer, and she's heading to the courtroom.
Kristin Chenoweth will star in Legally Mad, a new drama series for creator David E. Kelly for NBC. This is by far the smartest, best news out of NBC in months. (Could Jeff Zucker be reading TV Squad? Have we gotten under his skin?)
You can't see me but I'm doing the dance of joy and happiness about this casting. I have been in the dumps over
Pushing Daisies not being picked up by ABC. The network hasn't even said whether it will air the last episodes, and
Kristin Chenoweth has been the one star out there who's really expressed her disappointment that the show has come to an end. Therefore, I'm extremely glad for her that ABC's loss will be NBC's gain.

(S02E10) "Chuck's father is alive?" - OliveI'm sad. Even if, contrary to
what I reported a few weeks back,
Pushing Daisies' final episode ever - episode 2.13 - will offer some closure to most characters thanks to last minute editing and retooling, I'm sad as "The Norwegians" could very well have been the last episode we will see of the series on a TV screen. ABC claims it plans to air the final three hours as a block sometime in the near future but fans know networks can change their mind rather quickly, especially when money talks. Will ABC live up to its promise? Will they put the episodes online? Or, worse, will we have to wait months and months to watch them on DVD?
No matter the answers to these questions, we should cherish "The Norwegians" as we don't know when we will see our favorite pie maker and his crew next. One thing is for sure, the episode gave us a lot of action and left us saying "WTF?" and "OMG!"

(S02E09) "We're so together electrons couldn't get between us." - Chuck to Ned on the roofIs it all right for me to say right up front that I don't like Charles Charles? Bear in mind, I'm not one of the "I want Ned and Chuck to wind up together" crowd. I'm with Olive; I want Ned to realize that Olive is the girl for him, but I digress.
The point remains that my blood was really boiling as I watched Mr. Charles threatening Ned, warning him to never see Chuck again, and even going after Ned physically -- with a broom! For a dead guy, the swaddled Mr. Charles sure is a pushy S.O.B.

(S02E08) "I declare an emotional snow day." -- Ned to Chuck
A really good episode of
Pushing Daisies is something like a really good slice of pie: perfectly balanced in taste and consistency, not to sweet, not too tart, nicely flaky and completely satisfying the way comfort food should be. To some, every episode is a delight, but not every one is the perfect slice. This one, to me, had it all. There was something for every character, a goofy murder, complications galore and Kristen Chenoweth singing.
As the last of the
Pushing Daisies play out -- with slim hopes of a TV life beyond this season -- I can't help but find myself savoring every show. But enough about the future, let's talk about this episode. It was great to see Olive, Ned, Chuck and Emerson separated into two teams; Ned and Olive went to the cook-off, while Chuck turned to Emerson after a highly traumatic development. More on that after the jump.

(S02E07) "You'd have to watch him die all over again." - Ned to Chuck
The case of the week was interesting and fun to watch unfold, however, it's not what we will remember about this week's installment of the soon-to-be-ending Pushing Daisies. What we will remember is how Dwight discovered that Chuck is alive, Lily fuming and drinking to a point that she points a gun at Dwight and decides to take matters in her own hands, and that oh so not important little scene in which Chuck and Ned unearth Charles Charles.

(S02E04) "Where are you living anyway?" - Ned to Emerson
Did you realize that this week's
Pushing Daisies episode is actually only the 13th installment of the refreshing series? I forgot about it for a second or two when I told myself "About time!" after realizing that "Frescorts" was going to offer us some Emerson backstory. I guess the almost-nine-months hiatus, thanks to the
writers' strike, made us long for more details about the show's characters. In any case, let me say this: Yay for some Emerson backstory!

(S02E03) "Is a matter of heaven and hell." - OliveOlive thought the case of the week was a matter of heaven and hell. Personally, I think it was more a case of secrets and lies for both the nunnery members and the lead characters. The investigation unearthed one nun's secrets as the reunion of Olive and the other main characters allowed her to deal with two of the secrets she has been hiding and move on.

(S02E02) I love the romanticism of
Pushing Daisies, especially the way this episode presented it. Instead of all the usual sunshine and sweetness, Ned was actually acting petulant and sullen. Chuck was asserting her independence and feeling the need for seizing the opportunity of a new beginning.
For a change, these two that are normally so in sync had to deal with an internal challenge, as opposed to the physical constraints that are inherent because Ned cannot touch Chuck lest he lose her forever. Ned had to accept that Chuck was living next door -- in Olive's apartment -- and happy about it.
