The two-hour special for November is still in the can and shouldn't be affected by this.

This could be an example of analysis paralysis. Due to the writers' strike, the show was not broadcast at all last season. They had a year's break to think it through. They're having second thoughts about the storyline this late in the game? Considering the wait that fans have already had to go through (though no fault of the producers), this better be a kick-ass season.

Of course, the show isn't being broadcast until January and they already have plenty of material ready that wasn't broadcast due to the aforementioned strike. There is ample time to make whatever changes they need and have it ready for broadcast.

I do wonder what sort of enemy Jack Bauer will be fighting in the next season. I'm hoping for Cobra Commander from the upcoming G.I.
If you guessed "in his 40s," you're wrong. He's actually in his 50s! At least he will be when the new season of 24 starts on FOX in early 2009. The network has revealed that Bauer will have aged four years when the show returns in January. Chloe will no longer be pregnant -- she'll have a four year old. At least this is more realistic than what you see on soap operas, when a character will have a kid and then that kid will come back two years later and suddenly be a teenager.

In the first season of the show, Bauer was 35 years old, so 17 years have passed on the show. In real life, actor Kiefer Sutherland is 41 years old (he's younger than me? Jeez).

24 joins the ever-growing list of TV shows that are using time jumps as pivotal plot developments, including Lost and Desperate Housewives.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Bruce Campbell: The TV Squad Interview

Filed under: Interviews, Celebrities, Reality-Free, Burn Notice
On USA's spy-action-comedy series Burn Notice, there are great actors all around. Recently, I had the chance to spend a day on the set of Burn Notice (more on that next week!), and share in round-table interviews with the stars of the show.

Here's one of those wonderful actors, the irreverent and brilliant Bruce Campbell. As Sam, Jeffrey's old friend -- and sometime nemesis -- from the spy wars, Campbell is having a ball filming in South Florida and stealing scenes like nobody's business. Oh, and he smells good, just like Old Spice.

Q: What is the character of Sam about?

Bruce Campbell: He's about 50. No, he's like the other characters in the show, damaged goods, which is why I like him.

Gallery: Bruce Campbell
<a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/bruce-campbell/872857/"><a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/bruce-campbell/872858/"><a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/bruce-campbell/872876/"><a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/bruce-campbell/872877/"><a href="http://"www.tvsquad.com"/photos/bruce-campbell/872878/">

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Jon Voight joins 24

Filed under: 24, Celebrities, Casting, Reality-Free
Oscar-winner Jon Voight, father of a certain actress called Angelina Jolie, will return to the small screen this fall. The actor, who recently appeared in movies such as National Treasure and Transformers, was cast in an important role on FOX's hit series 24.

The 69-year-old actor may be best known for his movies but he is no stranger to TV. He appeared in a handful of made-for-TV movies, in mini-series such as the 1993 Return to Lonesome Dove in which he played lead character Capt. Woodrow F. Call, and in series like Gunsmoke for example.

Slight spoilers after the jump!

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Jericho star joins 24 prequel

Filed under: 24, Celebrities, Jericho, Casting, Reality-Free

If by some miracle Jericho does indeed come back, it will be without one cast member.

Sprague Grayden, who played Heather on the CBS show, has joined the cast of FOX's 24 prequel. She'll play the First Daughter, the daughter of the President of the United States.

This news comes on the heels of more casting news announced last week. It's an interesting cast: Grayden joins Cherry Jones, Janeane Garofalo, Robert Carlyle, Tony Todd, Gil Bellows, and Eric Lively (oh, and Kiefer Sutherland). The new season of 24 starts in January, but this prequel will air this fall.

Of course, maybe she could come back to Jericho too When she was on that CBS show, she had a role on Weeds as well. And while she's on 24 she's also going to be on FX's Sons of Anarchy. Now that's job security. She also had regular gigs on John Doe, Joan of Arcadia, Over There, and Six Feet Under.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

More cast members added to 24 prequel

TV Squad previously reported that production on the two-hour prequel to 24 season 7 was underway. Now, it's been learned that a few cast members have been added to that TV movie.

The movie has Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) battling terrorists in Africa while the new President of the United States Allison Taylor is sworn in. Already cast are Cherry Jones (as Allison Taylor), Robert Carlyle (as a mentor of Jack Bauer) and Carlos Bernard, who will be returning despite his apparent death in season five.

The new cast members are:

Eric Lively (an alumni of the series The L Word and the brother of Gossip Girl star Blake Lively) as the president's son.

Gil Bellows (best known for his role on Ally McBeal) as a State Department officer ordered to serve Bauer with a subpoena to appear before the Senate.

Eventually, we got wind that Jack Bauer would be heading to Africa even if the idea was scrapped in September because of production cost.

Today, FOX confirmed that Jack Bauer would battle an international crisis in South Africa in the two-hour prequel set to air on Sunday, November 23 at 8 p.m.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

An early look: '24' season 7 cast and episodes - VIDEO

Filed under: 24, Video, Spoilers Anonymous, Celebrities, Early Looks, Reality-Free

Even if season 7 of 24 won't air for another 9 months, it doesn't mean we can't get our hopes up when the first official cast picture leaks on the web. One show that fans were extremely looking forward to (mostly after seeing the video after the jump) was 24. The series, first set to return in January 2008, was shelved by FOX so that season 7 could air uninterrupted.

When FOX made that announcement, some of us predicted that the show wouldn't return until at least mid-August. Since the network is known for starting it's fall season a bit early for certain shows (e.g., Prison Break), maybe the series could have aired from mid-August until the end of December with a few 2-hour long episodes. But it looks like this option won't happen. Instead, we will have to wait 11 months to see what happens next in Jack Bauer's life!

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Out of the Blogosphere

Filed under: Industry, Programming, Web, Celebrities

What's going on at the other TV blogs via the internets.

Thank god production on 24 was willing to wait for him to serve his time because other-- oh wait. There is no production. At least now there won't be any issues when they do need to get back to work on saving the world.

I've got to be honest, though, I don't understand what happened. Help me out here. Isn't Kiefer Sutherland a Hollywood star? And yet he served his full 48 day sentence in prison? Why didn't they let him out after nineteen minutes? Lindsay and Paris and Nicole all got out after a few minutes, so what's the deal? Is it because he doesn't have breasts? Because that's discrimination and I won't stand for it. I demand that all my celebrities serve only token gestures towards jail sentences for real crimes. It's not right that Kiefer had to suffer like a real person for his crimes. He was sentenced Wednesday for his drunk driving arrest in October, his second in three years. While he could have waited until February 12th to begin his sentence, the Emmy-winning actor instead opted to begin immediately. This may be because he'd rather get it out of the way now while production is halted on 24 due to the strike. I wonder if he and the inmates will sit around and watch old episodes of 24 on prison TV. (Are they allowed to watch Prison Break in prison?)

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

24, Season Six - DVD review

Filed under: TV on DVD, 24

Ahh, 24. I'm not sure if watching Jack Bauer kick terrorist ass counts as an American pastime yet, but after six seasons, it sure counts for something. Ever since FOX came up with the brilliant plan of airing 24 with consecutive episodes from start to finish in January (starting with season four), the 24 DVD releases have become a staple of the Christmas season.

Despite the general consensus that season six was a disappointment, I still say cut it some slack -- season five was a huge act to follow. While the DVD set is nothing revolutionary, it's still worth buying. Factor in the WGA strike's impact on season seven, and this might be the only 24 fix we get in a while. It first aired on the bigscreens in NYC's Times Square, became available online shortly after, and aired nationally later in the evening during game two of the World Series. A lot of you have probably already seen it, but may be wondering: hey TV Squad, why are you reporting on this a day late? Well, this sat forever on the "assignment desk" and to be honest, I think we were all afraid of incurring the wrath of you readers for spoiling the fun. Well I stepped up and here's your warning: read on with caution, because after the jump there is a trailer and I do talk about the season seven plot. There. I said it.

Read | Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Kiefer Sutherland to spend 48 days in jail (but not all at once)

If I ever get arrested for drunk driving (which will never happen), I would like prosecutors and defense attorneys to come to an agreement where I can split my 48 days in jail into two different blocks of time, so I can blog all day long and watch a lot of TV shows I might otherwise miss.

That's what's going to happen to 24 star Kiefer Sutherland. He's going to jail for DUI for 48 days (not the 30 we reported the other day), but those days will be split up so it doesn't interfere with the production of the FOX show. He'll serve 18 days, then go back to filming the show, then serve the remaining days after production is over (he has to complete the 48 days by July 1).

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Yup, Kiefer Sutherland is going to jail

Well, it looks like celebrities don't always get off with just a slap on the wrist (wait...that sounds rather dirty, but you know what I mean).

24 star Kiefer Sutherland is actually going to jail for 30 days, as part of his plea deal regarding a DUI arrest in Los Angeles in September. He was coming home from a FOX fall season party. He's going to jail for having a blood alcohol level over the limit, but the second charge of DUI was dismissed (not sure what the difference is there).

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Kiefer Sutherland arrested for drunk driving

24 star Kiefer Sutherland was arrested last night in Los Angeles for drunk driving, TMZ.com is reporting.

The field sobriety test given to Sutherland showed the star was two times over the state limit of .08. Too bad he wasn't three times over, that would have been 24 and would have been great promotion for the show, though the show doesn't start up again for a few more months so that probably wouldn't have been great strategy.

Sutherland probably would have been OK but he made an illegal U-turn. He was released a few hours after the arrest after posting $25,000 bail. If convicted he could serve at least five days in jail. This is his second offense in three years.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

FOX Reveals Upcoming Plot Details for '24'

In mid-April, we reported that the '24' producers were studying potential story lines for the seventh season of the FOX hit series, one featuring Quebec's separatists. About two weeks later, it was confirmed that Jack would go through his next action-packed awful day in a different scenery. In early July, we learned that writers had planned to have the action set in Africa and the U.S. but that the network sent them back to the drawing board because that story line would be too expensive. Eventually, official spoilers started to leak and FOX announced the names of actors joining the show (more after the jump).

But yesterday, FOX sent out a press release so juicy that it had some people pinch themselves to make sure they weren't dreaming!

Spoilers after the jump!

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

More actors join 24

Cynthia Turner's Cynopsis reveals that FOX's hit series 24 has just recruited two actors to join the cast in the upcoming season of the series. Enterprise's John Billingsley is set to join in a recurring capacity. TV Guide mentions that his role is that of "Latham."
