Kevin James Hosting Nick's 'Kids' Choice Awards'

The actor, comedian and former 'King of Queens' star will host this year's Nickelodeon awards show.

Kevin James has been announced as the host of the 23rd annual 'Kids' Choice Awards' set to air on March 27.

What a shame. That means his breathtaking tour-de-force film 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' won't be eligible for a nomination, per the 'Kids' Choice' voting bylaws pact of 1997 overseen and enacted by former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, then-UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and the guy who played Barth on 'You Can't Do That on Television.'

Mall Cops coming to TV

Paul Blart Mall CopI am sorry to report that Kevin James in Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Seth Rogen in Observe and Report have started a phenomenon, because a new reality series called Mall Cops: Mall of America is coming to TLC. This is what happens when two movies that are superficially related to each other get released in close chronological proximity.

Granted, the Mall of America is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) malls in America and there is likely more than a fair share of crimes that go on there during any given day. I just wonder if the show is going to hire its own criminals to commit felonies in the mall just to keep things interesting.

I can see it now: the season deals with standard problems like shoplifters and lost children until the season finale which ends in a hostage situation cliffhanger. Want to see the footage of how it turns out? Wait until season two.

Kevin James is returning to CBS, sort of

The King of QueensThe King of Queens is not returning to CBS. However, Kevin James is. He's performing in a series of interstitials on Monday night in an effort to promote his soon-to-be-released movie Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

Will this launch James to movie stardom? I don't know. He's following the title formula of such movies as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigalo, so we can probably guess the format and formula of the film.

Not every comedy TV star can make the transition to movies, and I don't know if Kevin James has the personality to hold a film on his own. It worked for Jim Carrey because of his wild, character-driven personality and it worked for Rob Schneider because...actually, I don't think it worked for Rob Schneider. If it did, I have no idea why.

It's interesting to note that Paul Blart is produced by Sony Pictures and The King of Queens was produced by Sony Pictures TV. Sony Pictures must own Kevin James' soul.

Queen for a Day is coming back

QueenIf you have a leisure suit in your closet and think it'll never be in style again, you may be wrong. Everything has a way of coming back around, even game shows. With that in mind, Queen for a Day, a game show that ran in daytime for 20 years, is being resurrected for today. RDF USA has obtained format rights and plan to present their resurrected, revamped edition to cable and broadcast nets this week.

Queen for a Day was originally a radio show, but appeared on TV in 1947 and ran on and off until 1970. It was sort of the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition of its day, albeit on a much more modest level. Female contestants would appear to tell her story of woe and misfortune in order to be eligible to become queen for a day, wherein she would win prizes, be feted with a crown and robe, offered roses and other gifts. "Make every woman a queen, for every single day," was the host, Jack Bailey's closing line each day. If it sounds hokey, it was. Comedy shows regularly satirized it.

Kevin James has a hot wife in real life

Kevin James and wifeSome quick baby news! Kevin James and his wife Steffiana just had their second child Shea Joelle James. Thank goodness she doesn't have a crazy celebrity baby name (I'm looking at you, Pilot Inspektor). Actually, the news here is not about the baby, but about Steffiana. Look at her! She's hot! Possibly hotter than Leah Remini, Kevin's onscreen lady on the King of Queens. Doesn't this give a little bit of hope to all you fellows out there that don't quite have leading man looks? The lesson here is... You too can get the girl, as long as you have a great sense of humor. And long-running sitcom.

Oh, and Keri Russell just had a baby boy, but she doesn't have a smokin' hot wife.

The King of Queens: China Syndrome, Parts 1 & 2 (series finale)

The King of Queens finale
(S09E12 / S09E13)
Last month, I wrote a post praising The King of Queens for not making their 200th episode into any kind of "special" episode, just doing the same goofy but funny comedy the show has always done. There was no character development, no great revelations, no massive earth-shattering changes, and no story arcs. I expected them to do the same for the finale; just show another day in the life of the Heffernans and fade to black.

We got none of that; in fact, everything I listed above was exactly what we got, not only in this one-hour finale, but the two episodes before that. Drama isn't this show's strong suit, and it made for a finale that was wildly out of character in comparison with the rest of the series.

The King of Queens' 200th episode same as the other 199... is that so bad?

The King of QueensBelieve it or not, The King of Queens aired its 200th episode last night. They didn't do anything special to celebrate it. No guest stars, no plot twists, no revelations; Kevin James and company just did the same thing they've been doing since 1998, which is put on a funny show that will never be compared to The Office, but it won't be compared to According to Jim, either.

The plots? Doug and Carrie wonder how Deacon and Kelly can afford a vacation home when they can't, and do their best to try to find out. Also, Arthur coaches Spence in the art of finding a new job, then swoops in and steals a position Spence was looking to get. Nothing different than we haven't seen before, and the humor was the same: some laugh-out-loud moments, a few chuckle-worthy moments, mostly generated by the actors' timing and skill rather than the script itself.

King of Queens' latest season to be last

King of QueensCBS has announced that, after nearly a decade of being on the air, King of Queens will end after its current season runs out in May. Now that Will & Grace and That 70s Show are out of the picture, the program is currently the longest-running sitcom on air

Although the show still experiences some decent success in ratings and only recently got their first Emmy nomination (a nod to star Kevin James, this year), I think it's time to pull the plug. I actually used to find the show relatively enjoyable (compared to similar sitcoms like According to Jim), but the whole "Check out the fat guy with the hot chick!" thing began to wear thin a few seasons ago.

Ooh! Here's an idea: A wacky sitcom all about a fat wife and her super-hot husband. Haha, I'm just kidding... We've already seen that on Roseanne, with Roseanne Barr and that smokin' super-fox John Goodman.

Old Christine, Close to Home get renewed

new adventures of old christine; julia louis-dreyfusCongratulations to Julia Louis-Dreyfus! CBS just signed on for a second season of The New Adventures of Old Christine. Maybe now everybody can stop talking about that 'Seinfeld curse' that she parodied on SNL last week. I watch the show and I think it has some funny moments, but it's not great like The Office or My Name is Earl or Scrubs. Doesn't even come close. Also renewed by CBS is Close to Home and renewal of The Unit is still up in the air. The network ordered 13 episodes of The King of Queens (that's still on?) because Kevin James is shooting a movie with Adam Sandler this year.

Also, CBS picked up five new dramas:
