Director Johnatan Demme obtained over 200 hours of footage of the Katrina aftermath, and the resulting documentary, Right to Return: New Home Movies from the Lower 9th Ward will air for five consecutive nights on Tavis Smiley's PBS show beginning this evening. American Idol's loopiest and loveliest judge, Paula Abdul, will be hosting a star-studded benefit concert for the organization In Defense of Animals on Saturday, February 17. The event, which will raise money for animals affected by Hurricane Katrina, is scheduled to take place at Historic Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California.
Fox gave the green light to a pilot about cops living and working in post-Katrina New Orleans. It's one of four Katrina-related projects that were being pitched to networks for the next television season, but it's the only one that is moving forward. K-Ville is an hour-long drama that tells the stories of the police officers who stayed behind when the hurricane hit.
"Foley Erect" (unsurprisingly, that garnered a lot of groans from the audience): Mark Foley's a sick, sick bastard and the media had no trouble thinking up ways to make him seem like a sick, sick, sick bastard. That one-handed typing business was pretty gross. Ugh. I probably would have laughed a little harder at the "Nudge, Nudge" clip (actually, I was wearing my Monty Python t-shirt while watching TDS... yes, I have a Monty Python shirt) if I hadn't been twisting uncomfortably in my seat. Ughh. Foley. Gross. I even made the mistake of reading his instant messaging conversation, out of sheer morbid curiosity. Stupid thing to do. Hell must've frozen over for some people last night when South Park was given its first Peabody award. The Daily Show host, and former Peabody winner, Jon Stewart played emcee at the University of Georgia event in New York. When introducing Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, Stewart complimented them on their "ability to keep the show fresh and hilarious" after 10 seasons. Parker and Stone reportedly kept their acceptance speeches brief. Parker swore when talking about artistic responsibilities and Stone professed his love for fellow winner, Battlestar Galactica.
Jon's back on from his Oscars gig. Oh, Jon, how we've missed
thee. After putting down his Hollywood sunglasses, cellphone, and Blackberry, Jon talked about the mixed
reviews over his performance ("I sucked... and was great!"). He's usually pretty hard on himself (I
remember him uttering, "I am a loser" after one of his jokes during the Oscars) so it was good to hear
that Jon said that he had a great time. Audience may or may not have enjoyed his performance as host... it all
depended on which cutaways you saw (Jamie Foxx laughed it up, Joaquin Phoenix offered nothing but cold stares). Well,
for what it's worth, I thought Jon did a fantastic job with what he had. I really loved the "attack ads" that
Stephen Colbert voiced. Jon even showed another attack ad that they pulled at the last minute about monkeys in the biz,

Did you enjoy the American Idol auditions last night, from Austin, Texas? Here's some
odd news for you:
They weren't filmed in Austin, Texas!
That's right. Seacrest did his intros, etc from Austin, but actual audtions took place in San Francisco, because Hurricane Katrina/Rita evacuees were in Austin at the time. So they flew the contestants to San Francisco and had them audition for the judges there.
Now, this isn't a big deal, but why not say it during the telecast?
